@ROBLOXingHabbo Yea my school just had an accident SOMEONE TRIED TO BURN IT DOWN YESTERDAY! It was arson. The fire only burned up the administrator office and some other parts of the school but it could have been a lot worse!
yeah copy fluid in a heater is one big no no.....that stuff is as flammable as ever. Feel bad for the kid though.....accidents happen but bet he didn't expect to burn the school, a second building and a car down.
Looks more like a storage shed than a school. I hope the kid was OK. It must have been mimeograph fluid, the same stuff that started the first WTC fire in 1975. It's good that they don't use that stuff anymore, but it gave those blue worksheets a cool (probably brain damage inducing) smell when they were fresh off the press, so to speak.
@MFD657 You can not compare New Orleans to New York. Heck, we all know how great firefighting is up there. We hear you guys bragging about being the greatest all the time. We are aware that New York firefighters would have had this fire out before the kid dropped the liquid on the heater. Perhaps, someday our firefighters will become as great as you and then be able to wear those unprofessional, stupid looking short pants while on duty.
@MFD657 r u serious......this was 1985.....i'm more than sure that u know fire fighting ops r way more advance now right? and besides, after katrina, i've worked with a few ny firefighters and i wasnt impressed with there firefighter tactics..
@Silvawolf100 I'm sure an adult asked him to go get it or something. Kids aren't in danger and they know how to handle certain objects so long as they're shown how. But because everyone is today is so damn fearful about anything bad that might happen, they don't show them, and so bad things happen. Way to go parents...
wow, its amazing how much they have improved on fire suppression since then! It has been 25 years and you can tell! anymore, vary rarely does a fire spread to another building. at least, not here. We have a completely volunteer fire department with just 50 firefighters and they could have kicked that fire's butt if it had been more recent!
I bet that poor child was terrified. Im sure it was an accident. Though I kinda would like to know what the child meant to do with the copy machine fluid? thats not something a child would handle. but atleast no one was hurt.
@TheZASTAVA750 even if it had been your school (Im guilty of wishing the same when I was young) they would have had you transfered to another school. You wouldnt get the time off. Maybe a day at the most. unless you were severely injured. I asked someone about that as I was curious.
Just magine, if people thought that this child done this on purpose; that child was probably grounded for 75 years, and spanked with a crow bar until it snapped into 59 pieces.
Amazing! The whole school burns to the ground before they get any effective water on the fire. All that manpower and equipment and no water. I've noticed this in many of these types of videos.
@buzzfuzz146 ---> There is a saying amongst videographers of fires being handled by organized fire departments that if you want to get a video of the action you better start shooting before you stop your car, because 99.99% of the time they are going to get the fire out before you can capture anything. The videos you have seen are those that obviously had a good head start before the FD arrived. In this particular fire the cameraman arrived on the scene before the FD.
@buzzfuzz146 As a firefighter and having been raised in the firefighting world, I can tell you this. After a fire gets to a certain point - as in, the entire building is an absolute loss, which doesn't necessarily mean the building is already entirely consumed - you write off the building and try to save what's around it. You only have a certain number of hoses and people, and you've got to save what you can. You've got to remember, this was 1985 - not as many phones and as much technology.
@buzzfuzz146 And also, not trying to be a jerk, I just want to point this out as well - you've got to keep in mind Zaffdoc's reason for posting "these types of videos." They're meant to be largely educational and entertainment-worthy. That means that they're going to be big fires with disastrous consequences. And most of them are old. Someone could post on here every single fire we stop each day before the whole building burns down, but then they wouldn't be worth criticising or discussing.
I like the use of the booster line to cool the fire fighters covering the exposure @ 5.46 Very nice work. I must remember that when in tight quarters.
@kayangthao A child spilled copying machine fluid on a heater and causes a massive fire that destroyed the school and spreads to a nearby structure. NOFD personnel worked quickly to prevent further extension of this conflagration that occurred in May of 1985. No one got hurt.
if were my school i would see a little fire off goes the fire alarm and i will leave right now and i would start crying i love school i go to morrsinville grade school
Wow, that's a hot fire. The radiant heat must have been tremendous, you can see them wetting each other as well as exposures. It's hard to believe we used to stap those steel tanks on our backs. The newer carbon cylinders are a gift from Above.
One thing bugs me, that the FF from the NOFD seem to be standing round like a spare pork pie at a Bar-Mitzvah, while the main part of the building burns, and aiming their hoses at the next building along - INSTEAD of dealing with the large fire, which is they could have extinguished it, would have prevented the building spread anyhow.
These guys look about as effective as a chocolate sunhat on a hot day.
@eddief32 That was pretty cruel to compare the firefighters to pork at a Bar-Mitzvah, when they were waiting for marshmallows to roast. No, acutally New Orleans has a very good fire department and what happend at this fire is that the cameraman got on ths scene before all the first alarm companies arrived. It takes time to get the hose lines laid and water flowwing. The camera guy was on the way to a shooting and ran acrros the fire.
@eddief32 wow. you must not be in the fire service because if you were you would know how quickly a completely wooden structure with fire safety ratings from 1985(or earlier) can go up and how hot it is to be close to. not to mention you would also know that for the original fire building there is a point of no return where you then focus your attention and manpower on the exposures( the closest buildings) to protect them.look up radient heat and remember it was 1985 also...dumb ass.
Nice old school turnout gear! Good save of exposures with regards to how out of control everything else looked, they could have lost a city block....Maybe luck and the wind died down. GOOD video anyway! Thanks.
great vid! man that fire was SMOKIN at the 3 min mark..and the old school lightbars on the trucks...Twinsonic on the first truck and a Smith & Wesson on the truck that backs in around the 4 min mark.. that was a 'Surround n Drown' right off the bat..

It also takes a few minutes after arriving on the scene of a fire to lay the hose, attach to the hydrant and set the fire engine pump to boost the water pressure to fight the fire.
It's called protecting exposures. By just letting the school burn while saving the buildings that surrounds it. Unfortunately they were not successful.
Ooooooh, not good! I remember using Busen burners in chemistry class at school and the teachers were really lax when it came to lab work. We used all sorts of stuff like magnesium etc. I am amazed nothing like this happened.
I never felt safe in that classroom! I don't even like to light propane BBQ's!
That's scary! I lived in a house near a school, just closer than the building in you film. One night I woke up, because I couldn't breath, and the school was burning like in the film.

While it might not cause ice to form on your mustache it can get down to the mid 50's in New Orleans in May and that can be a little chilly for kids that live in Louisiana. Even if it were not that cool, they probably kept the pilot light burning until the end of the school year.... Which was probably only a week more. Obviously, the pilot light would be all that is necessary to ignite a flammable liquid.
You know the video that you made called saturday afternoon tragedy? How old were the two kids that were playing with matches? Were there parents home?
The grandmother was watching the children and was the one screaming. It was very, very sad. It took me a long time to get over that event. I think that there are more details about that fire in the video "Old TV story about Signal 51 Group" in my channel.
Oh, but I can guarantee you that any gasoline that may have been in that abandoned car was siphoned out long before the fire. Ive never seen oil in a crankcase catch fire, but I guess it could.
To a 9/11 Truther, that smoke indicates "oxygen starved fire". LMAO!

I watched it when I was 8 years old and ever since I wanted to become a firefighter. I am 12 and I love fires and I'm not afraid.

Ladder 49 was a horrible movie when it comes to what firefighting is like. Ok if you like drama.

Maybe it wasn't on, but plugged in, causing a short
chase312 2 years ago
While it might not cause ice to form on your mustache it can get down to the mid 50's in New Orleans in May and that can be a little chilly for kids that live in Louisiana. Even if it were not that cool, they probably kept the pilot light burning until the end of the school year.... Which was probably only a week more. Obviously, the pilot light would be all that is necessary to ignite a flammable liquid.

did anyone die or get severily hurt?
wazup4863 2 years ago
No, no one got hurt, but the kid was given a hard time by the police.
zaffdoc 2 years ago
Aw WHY? It was only an accident. Plus accidently burning down a school is hard enough. Poor kid.
skatergirl24567 2 years ago
I don't remember the details, but the kid might have had a history of being a trouble maker.

You know the video that you made called saturday afternoon tragedy? How old were the two kids that were playing with matches? Were there parents home?
skatergirl24567 2 years ago
The grandmother was watching the children and was the one screaming. It was very, very sad. It took me a long time to get over that event. I think that there are more details about that fire in the video "Old TV story about Signal 51 Group" in my channel.

The whole neighborhood is going up in flames and you are worried about a fricking abandoned car
zaffdoc 2 years ago
um, GASOLINE! OIL! PLASTIC!
ColonelSamatoshi 2 years ago
ummm, used condoms, empty beer cans, stolen car radio, 4 months of trash, used set of break-in tools, glove compartment full of parking tickets.....
zaffdoc 2 years ago
Oh come on Doc, you can't tell me you've gone stupid to what happens when gas or oil catches fire.
ColonelSamatoshi 2 years ago
Oh, but I can guarantee you that any gasoline that may have been in that abandoned car was siphoned out long before the fire. Ive never seen oil in a crankcase catch fire, but I guess it could.
zaffdoc 2 years ago
Doc I agree. I would say what if it were you ColonelSamatoshi in that big fire. Would you go to the car or get to safety as quick as possible?

This was my school from 3rd grade to 6th grade.
