Screw them. I've been learning sign language for a few years and plan to start college ASL interpreting. My boyfriend and I sign much in public- just because it's fun and feels natural (he took a community class and I'm also teaching him what I know.) A few times, we were in WalMart (people always stare while I sign) and someone walked past me. They turned around and laughed at me, assuming that I'm deaf. It infuriated me! People are ignorant. And you are a very nice person, I love listening

Well, I lost my hearing when I was 3 years old. It does not mean that I am deaf, just being a hearingless. That is my prefer. However, I do not have a problem with people who make fun of me. I stand up and be brave to face them like human rights' will. Ashely, you do not need to explain yourself to people who hurt you. Just tell them that you are human being and therefore, you are proud to be who you are regardless your deaf. Good lucky!

I met a deaf person once, on the internet. (Adam, 1smiledude1) and I decided to learn sign language, 2 years later, I got to meet him, and now we are great, REAL, friends. I am so glad I learned sign language, I can understand much more of the world now, not just English. :) I plan to learn all the languages!

hey ashley, i understand your frustration. I'm 14 and I have a mild/moderate hearing loss. I've had it since I was a baby, but it got worse when i was about 7. anyway, I wear hearing aids and its difficult to function without them. I feel like i miss out on the punchline. I'd love to help my friends sometimes but when they're upset they talk really softly and I can't hear them very well ugh! and don't get my started on teachers. I have a couple people in my church that are deaf, and they have a sign language interpreter there, and i catch myself watching them all the time and wondering what they are saying, i think its really neat to watch. Hi! I am from Puerto Rico, so sorry for my poor english, is that here we talk spanish. I am trying to learn sing language. I work in a hospital and here we dont have the resource to understand deaf people. So, i enrolled as a volunteer to learn the sing, so when a deaf patient come I can help. I am hearing but I've had a lot of contact with the deaf over the years, including a young girl when I was in 2nd grade. I seemed to be her only friend at school. I am now 17 almost 18. I wish I was normal. I wish I can go swimming, but I can't. I can't get water in my ears, I have a hole in it. It's now covered by a patch. If it gets wet, then there's a chance my ear will bleed. I hate when I can't hear and people laugh. I just wanted to say thank you. You're an inspiration to me

I CHOOSE to learn sign language last year (as a freshman) I took ASL 1 and 2...I would take more but they don't have more at my school so I'll probably do it in college, anyway, we had to learn ASL syntax and the culture and everything. I want to tell you that here in Finland we have one well-known deaf rapper, Signmark. And he's doing pretty good :D

Few of his songs: Speakerbox, Smells Like Victory. I think those are the best and they're not in Finnish signlanguage. And there's proper music videos to them...

my sister does color guard too! ashley is right, it's pretty hard. i can't do it at all, the flag is really heavy.

the weight of the flag depends if ur using short or tall. i use tall and its rly hard. but i practice alot.

well I was in school my teacher taught me for school start from 8:30am to 3:00pm. She taught me easy words that way I learned.

well...my parents dont know why I lost my hearing. I was normal hearing was fine and then loss my hearing when I was 2. I think I was very sick or somehthing like that.

Ashley, You truley amaze me. I am not deaf. I love sign language. I am actually learning ASL. You can do so much. Its so said to hear what people are saying to you. I just have one question. EVERYONE THIS IS TRUE SHE IS REALLY DEAF believe it or not if your not going to be nice just dont say anything at all keep them to your self you see how she is using sign lauange she is trying her best on singing along and hearing everything how would you feel if you were deaf and everyone has to make fun or dont believe you? at my work i have a worker that is deaf and i dont know sign lauange i felt bad for him so i ask ashley for advise it really helps what she said
