I think it's impressive that Patterson (if I remember right it's already Patterson and not Phil Mills) can read those detailed pacenotes at that speed and throw in a couple compliments for example when he did that chicane and that keep left over crest tightens into don't cut 6 half long tightens right he still managed to deliver the information and throw in a compliment while reading the next note for the next corner.

One of the best onboards I've seen on this channel. Perfect camera positioning, a tremendous stage (with very pretty scenery as well), incredible pacenotes and an awesome drive.
Everybody is commenting on the notes and Chris's delivery, so I'd like to join in the chorus :) Christ's rhythm and intonation is much like Phil's, but IMO Phil spoke more clearly. Perhaps he wasn't as dynamic and expressive, but he didn't leave parts out as Chris does.
And, on the whole, I'm really amazed at how detailed the notes are. I'm impressed with Petter's ability to take in all those information. On the other hand, I'd venture a risky opinion that the notes are too detailed. Obviously, the details help and if there's a rhythmical medium fast section, they're bound to increase the pace. But, as in here, where a fast section transforms into a tricky quick combination, something simpler could pan out better.
It's clear to see that the co-driver occasionally has real difficulty to even read everything *fairly* clearly--how can a driver process it well then? I've seen places in which Petter was evidently oblivious to the minor-importance calls like "keep right to..."--his mind simply skipped it when having to deal with multiple important calls in a very short time. Also, I feel the notes leave Petter's attention very little room for sensing the car,the road, the corners. Sometimes he's pretty robotic.
@barsorrro To us ordinary people yes, this is too much info to process. But its a learnt skill, Petter doesnt have to think about each call the co-driver is making, its instinctive, the co-drivers calls are like his own thoughts in his head, alot of the time he wont need to focus on the specific details, he'll just know without thinking : "I can make this corner at my current speed" then the "hairpins" or the "cautions" will grab his attention and make him think about the upcoming corner.
@sirnicolai Yes, I understand. Also--the reality itself proves that Petter deals with it quite fine :) I only wonder if he wouldn't be an even faster driver, if his notes were simpler. Alternatively, I'm wondering if a driver who is still at the beginning of his/her career would do better trying to learn an info-rich system as this, or going for a simpler one.
@barsorrro I do realize that the calls' positioning makes it possible for Petter to filter them according to importance, but--it's still a distraction. And I wonder if it pays off.
Petter Solberg is probably one of the best drivers in the WRC, but because of his bad luck and terrible cars, he is forced to drive the car in agony. Above everyone else, he deserves a win. Hopefully it will come this year!!
@CabalaCiceropace - google for - notes guide subaru. good article. if the navigator says thirty, thats mean the next note will be reached in 30 meters, fifty - in 50 meters and so on. for example: fifty.. six left plus = slight left corner in 50 meters. i hope my explanation correct :D
I was always wondering what does the navigator say to the driver, how he describes the approaching road properties, curves, but even if it's in english I still don't understand. Sometimes he says "titans", "six minus" and stuff like that. Where can I read more about this code?
it's not tians. it's tightens, meaning the corner tightens, and six minus means sixth gear and the minus means that it's low revs, so the speed is in the lower half of the sixth gear. Twenty, hundred etc means the distance the road is straight.
Solberg was amazing at Germany, especially on the final day. I remember looking at the split times and seeing nothing but green! I'd like to see him take a win before the season ends. Thanks WRC
petter is probably the driver with the most advanced and detailed pace notes in the entire WRC. it´s truly impressing to hear all the info ha has in the notes, and it takes a extremly skilled co-driver to read the notes at the speed the WRC drivers have.
@Skuggan84 Your totally right. I'd like to hear Loeb's in English though. Richard Burns had a very descriptive system as did Atkinson, as he had 9 corner grades instead of 6
how does petter manage to take in all that information, i cant follow it well with my eyes closed, let alone concentrating on where the car is going too
@fattylars Yeah maybe the reason that Solberg use to total so many cars was because Phil couldn't get the pace notes out fast enough! xD Won't be having that trouble with Patterson; I don't think this guy even needs to breath! He must have gills or something that just suck in oxygen.
@Streetracingpunk72 Heh.. Petter Solberg is an excellent driver, he just has some bad luck. Maybe ha just it all up in Germany in 2004. For the record, he has always totaled cars. You would think he would be humble, since he crashed his broders car, but in the intervju later he was like " The co-drvier said 190 over krest, but I had 210, and I allmost made it :)"

Chris patterson has a tough job there with so much reading and calling the notes.
No better man in my opinion he did the Irish and british proud and his mum and dad who are very well known in rallying.
Well done Chris..
