  • Corcovado, meaning "hunchback" in Portuguese, is a mountain in central Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, featuring the famous landmark statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor).

  • Love this lady

    ,

  • We saw her life in Chicago in 1982? 81? In a Jazz club on Rush St.....She was an amazing experience!! Very organic,,,,,very unique,,,,,hard to forget ever! I am so glad I finally saw her perform live!

  • My favorite version. Morgana, what a treasure your voice and delivery are.

  • She´s just GREAT!

  • Hi Mo,

I hope someone you know will show you on You Tube and especially all the wonderful comments from your fans.

I hope you had a safe trip. We all miss you very much. The community is not the same without you. It was always nice to see you talking with your neighbors.

I miss you very much. I hope life is better for you, now that you are with your family.

    I love you Mo. Love...George

  • I was a mere 3 yrs old when I saw this...Zia Lola an my Daddy...loved her...that's where I get my good taste...she was the best sounding vocal violin I've ever heard.

  • Corcovado means hunchback.

  • I met Morgana King approx. 5 months ago. She moved into my gated community. She introduced herself to me as the godmother. At first I thought she was nutz, then I looked at hers eyes and I knew who she was. She played the godmother in gadfather 1 & 2. We've become good neighbors. She reminds me of my Mom. They are both the same age and both are of Scilian decent. I happy to call her my friend. Love ya Mo! G.N.

  • The Way she sing it sounds a little like a East European Folk Song.

    Interessting.

Is there such a nice Place like the Corcovado in St.Petersburg ?

  • I first heard of Ms. King in 1965, from a very cool guy I met in Greenwich Village,NY.

What a Talent-I own her "Taste of Honey" CD. If your not familiar with it, check it out.

  • Oh how I love this.

  • My Girl!

  • Brilliant!

    STUNNING PERFORMANCE!!

  • Oh my I'm sorry when I hear Morgana sing I don't care what she's singing. Thank you for sharing. I've seen Morgana many time in person and this is the first video of her I've seen.

    WHAT A TREAT!

  • @revlogen4466

    You Lucky Person!

all I had was 'A Taste of Honey' album.

  • Probably one of the most ignorant comments I ever heard on TV, Corcovado means Quiet Nights...aarghhh ! Since when are all songs in any language literally translated into another to be sung ??!! Ridiculous, Corcovado is the mountain where Christ the Redeemer sits on. In the song the line O Redentor que lindo refers to exactly that. Can't believe this quy actually said what he did..

  • can anyone tell me where i can purchase corcovado by morgana king, i have it on vinyl but want it on my ipod.......i have searched itunes and can't find it anywhere perhaps it's on an compilation album, also can't find it on the internet on cd please help

  • @brendonbatkin

    A Taste of Honey album

Every piece on it a gem, specially Lazy Afternoon

(Please Post it here on YT?)

  • corcovado=quiet nights?......

  • Hahaha, no!

Corcovado means "convex curvature", from latin "concurvatus" (with currves) . its is is a mountain in central Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

  • Eu sei!!!!

Eu estive no Rio de Janeiro no dingy a Corcovado

    Eu estava brincando.

    Obrigado pela clarificação!!!!Hahahaha!!!

  • eu sabia que você sabia, meu hahaha foi para para o inteligente apresentador.

  • Fantastic! Most people sing this with an astonishing lack of passion. But not Morgana. The delivery matches the lyrics.

But the announcer is incorrect about the meaning of CORCOVADO. It does NOT mean quiet nights. It means HUNCHBACK. But it is about a famous mount in Rio.

  • Outstanding !!! I hope she will go back into the recording studio and give us some other stuff...but I do not think that you could get any better than her old stuff !!!

  • i have this on vinyl but can't find it on itunes perhaps it's on a compilation can anyone help

  • I've always loved this song, but Morgana's interpretation is fantastic. I can't stop listening to it. She sings with such feeling, She has total command of this song as if she owns it. Just watching her silhouette as she walked onstage towards the microphone made me feel that this was going to be a special performance. What style she has! The song's arrangement and the stage background scenery give me a peaceful feeling. Thank you for this posting and for introducing me to Morgana King.

  • I have known Morgana for over 50 yrs. and she sings better today than ever and is still beautiful.

  • Can you tell me why she has not appeared in Manhattan in 15 years and why no recordings?

If she is performing: "I'd cross the great divide, just to be at her side..."

For me, she is peerless. I have followed her since the 60's and have been very saddened by her lack of visibility. Everyone thinks she has retired!

  • eastsunrise, that song i think is I'll follow you! She did a remarkable version of that song! I remember my mother had an album (remember those) with that song'i ''I practices that song for hours

  • Revmiss101 you are so right! That song has ALWAYS been one of my most favorite of all time.I was really pissed when the Mainstream CD decided to put out an "alternative"version of that song that had been unpublished rather than the original OR in addition to the original because there was room on the CD to put out both versions. Why has that album NOT remained in the catalog?Plus there are many other songs from Mainstream never released;a whole CD of new songs should be released in addition.

  • The clip is so 'television' - the talent is simply awesome. Great upload. Thanks.

  • "Corcovado in Portuguese means quiet nights", Hahahaha

  • muirta,

That IS funny. Looks like D.O. didn't do his homework.

    Now back to Morgana.... AAAHHH....

  • Dude, Morgana King just moved in across the street from me. She just showed me her original script of the Godfather. I'm in complete and total AWE. And she showed me a bunch of pictures with Frank Sinatra, Billie Holday, and Marlon Brando. DUDE. and she just gamme her number ,were gonna chill :)

  • Chelly, how I wish I was in your lucky position. If you don't mind, next time you see Morgana, please tell her that Musiclover59 on YT thinks she is one of the giants of jazz singing and my favourite song of hers is Useless Landscape.

  • haha fa sho. my mom accidently fender bendered her car the other day lol we take her grocery shoppin n shit now

  • My Mother adored this singer and her music. I always found it somehow sad and mournful, the way she would almost wimper and wine, like in "A Taste of Honey" . No offense...just me, maybe. This song is more palatable.

  • Bravissimo!

  • I can't get enough of this performance. She's stunning.

  • Morgana King was in GodFather 1, she was the Mother, remember?

  • I found you again! Beautiful!

  • Corcovado doesn't mean quiet nights, I had known this song was devoted to the Corcovado's hill of Rio de Janeiro, where the Redentor Christ lies.

  • i guess he thought no one would know the difference lol.

  • Lovelliest song & place & woman

  • Most Enjoyable Performance!!

Thank you Linda for sharing this with me tonight!~

  • This is one of the greatest performances I've ever heard.

    I love this.

  • I Love this Linda!!

  • PLEASE someone 'Boxset' Morgana's greatest work : hers is a trully unique marriage of soulful jazz and classical techniques. No one else brings these 2 together so voluptuously.

  • Given the age of the original recording, it's a little read to 'read', but Morgana King's voice still overcomes that. Corcovado means something like Quiet Nights, not Hunchback, which would have been a pretty stupid name for such as beautiful tune.

I'm still searching for a digitized version of the Blue Note album - A Taste of Honey, where she sings Corcovado so well, it makes me cry with joy.

  • An unbelievaable voice from an era of great singers! Such range

  • Are you kidding me!?!?

Such a huge talent and practically unknown to this generation.

    Unbelievable.

  • yo, sorry to rain on carnivale, but corcovado means hunchback, and i love brazilian music and all but i feel like she's forcing it, hear the squeak??? I don't think that this a very exemplary, or good rendition of this tune...

  • Corcovado (hunchback)is the mountain (hill) near the city of Rio de Janeiro. The "forcing" is just her style and the tremendous range she has.

  • p.s. A little irony - she's half Portuguese.

  • John, this is a woman that had a true 6 octave range..amazing for any person..

  • i guess that she's just not my cup of tea. I love the casualness of brazilian greats, and casual, she is not... I got tons of respect for Morgana King, and I should hear more but i'll take any Gilberto's version over this one any day.

  • Fuck it. I'm movin' to Brazil!!!!!!!!!1

  • You said it. I get that feeling when I hear Astrud Gilberto. This type of music makes you want to drop everything and leave.

  • Loved her music back in the 1960's when I first discovered her. It's hard to believe that she later played the wife of Marlon Brando in the movie "The Godfather". It gives you a hint of the myriad lives one experiences in the entertainment industry.

  • I was introduced to Morgana's music by my mother. Mom was an amazing singer and she admired Morgana's voice. Morgana was a single mother of 5 kids like my mother was. Unlike my mother though, Morgana was an opera singer and had to switch to a more popular form of singing to support her children. My mother supported us with her singing too. It is wonderful to be able to hear Morgana sing again. ILYM

  • Morgana had one daughter who passed this last year, she is now living in California with her Grandson a Professor at a nearby University and planning on returning to the stage to sing again. You can see her playing the Mother in the Godfather movies.

  • I hope so. The world is wanting for such an original stylist.

  • I am sorry about her daughter! Ms,.King had an awesome voice! I listening to her sing on my mothers records was a thrill I will never forget! I hope she does sing again

  • She is great but it is playback. Look how she is holding her mic.

  • Does anyone have more songs by the great Morgana King? Her musicality and voice are unique. Wolf

  • has a very similar style to Cleo Laine.

  • corcovado, in portuguese, means a hill in the shape of a hunchback. corcovado is actually the name of the hill were you find "Cristo, o redentor" or, in english, "Christ, the Redeemer". the song is called that because the author of the song was able the see the statue from his bedroom window.

  • There is noone like Morgana...she needs to come out and let this new generation hear what greatness sounds like

  • I remember listening to her in the 60's.Oh LOrd! What a voice and how much MAGIC in it!

  • Rare and magical live clip of Morgana King in peak form...what vocal magic and so deeply soulful! A lavish box set of her masterpieces is in order...two Mainstream & one Verve LP all from the sixties would be heavenly! Bravo Morgana King!!!

  • Really good to see her again it has been so long. I love all of her records. Was she band from singing in the United States back in the 1960's

  • Wow.

Never had a choice to hear her singing before. Altough I don't quite enjoy that very old-fashioned style of singing and the cheesy arrangement... Morgana has superb musicality, power and "chops"! Reminds me somehow of Mavis Rivers ("We Remember Mildred Bailey" cd)

  • "Corcovado" doesn't mean "quiet nights". He should have looked up on Wikipedia ;)

  • Wow, no lie. Just because that's the English version doesn't mean that's the Portugese translation.

  • I am with you on that--I know that usually songs are not translated word by word, but on the video he does say "Corcovado" means "quiet nights", which is not true.

  • Yeah...the level of either ignorance or blatant disregard for the language there is kind of infuriating lol.

  • How about ,"I have loved me a man", I Love Morgana King, and have a lot of her records. It's great to be able to see her at last here in Australia.

  • I love Morgana King!
