the william tell overture. classic. the reason for the footage of the horse was to prove that horses and by extension other animals were off of the ground for a brief moment when they ran. human beings leave the ground too when we run. :)
@GreatGarloo ...Funny you should mention that. I just watched a very cool special about the life of Crazy Horse. It showed how Lakota Sioux warriors were trained from the time they were young boys (and old enough to ride a horse) how to fire a bow on horseback and shoot their arrows at the precise moment their horse had all hooves off the ground for greater accuracy. Now that is kick-ass!!
@GreatGarloo ...Hey Garloo, the video is actually on here, it's called, "Ancient Warriors-Sioux" and I am sure that you will enjoy it. Happy New Year to you, my brother, enjoy each day and love your friends and family fiercely.
The accompanying film was made in 1877 by Edward J. Muybridge for California governor Leland Stanford, who wanted to prove -- scientifically -- that at some point during a horses's gallop, all four hooves left the ground. Muybridge provided it forhim, though he did it a year earlier in another form The name of the film is "Sallie Gardner at a Gallop" and was filmed at Palo Alto.
hahahaha, i love it lol =P in my own twisted head it reminds me of a funny/morbid chase scene that someones chasing someone else and in the process people are getting hurt or killed lmao almost like a comedy skit lol =P
@ihateidiotcomments and once we're ready we allbegin the race lol =P that would be something to see though lol =P who's the fast out the door and on the horse lmao
@Jaysteffer, dazzling soundtrack. I seem to recall having seen the film elsewhere on YouTube -- it may be the first filmstrip ever (filmed in 1859?) . . . (a continually repeated) 16 seconds of a horse ride now (in 2010) 150 years ago . . . right?

KICK ASS SONG!!! I was in a bar fight once and I have no idea who had the idea to put this on the loudspeakers. Everyone just stopped at the randomness of the entire thing, then somebody else punched my friend and the fight continued. Fucking epic!
lol the first time i heard this was when i was like, 3 and i was on one of those coin operated mechanical horses and i was like, "on ward my trusty steed!" lol great song!
this song goes great with the game Gun! i was like in Empire City and i played this sone after i said "ON WARD OT DODGE CITY!" i then reared my horse, and OFF we went! i got there JUST as the song ended! lol
I used to put this on real loud. When i was in high school and my parents were with in an hour from being home from a weekend away. I had to clean up from the beer fest me and my buddies had the whole three days they were gone. shhh no one tell.
Thanks for the info! I knew the first motion picture was of a horse, however, I didn't know this was the film. Amazing to actually see it. I saw a documentary about film some time ago and they briefly mentioned it. Thanks again.
I really like hearing the beginning and end of this in TMNT III, where Leonardo rides on the horse, and Donatello says "You know sometimes, I hate that guy. Yeah."
