  • what blender would you recommend to make a smoothie? i dont have a smoothie blender but i do have the NINJA blender that was sold on TV

  • everyone should read Dr. Douglas Graham's book, The 80/10/10 diet!!

  • Thank you for this. I am a Falun Gong practitioner. Falun Dafa is a cultivation system in the Buddha School based on the principles of the Universe:

    真 Truthfulness

    善 Compassion

    忍 Forbearance.

Since 1999 it has been brutally persecuted by the CCP in China.

  • Love the Green Revolution! Your books go along with my healthy Round eating book, and there is abundant room for all of us!

  • Do you have any advice for someone who gets nauseated easily, especially when trying to drink green smoothies? I've tried the first three smoothie recipes from the raw family website (the Boutenko's site) but I get nauseated and sometimes throw up before I'm done. I love the way the smoothies help me feel more healthy, and I'm not allergic to anything that I put in them, so I'm wondering if you had any advice about this?

  • @sacricolist

i would try to start with very little greens at first. and maybe use a very mild green, like spinach and work your way up to stronger greens like kale, etc. so just a few leaves of spinach (maybe even just one!) and then increase slowly over time. see how that goes. good luck!

  • I think her book is revolutionary, but i think she needs to work on her weight which is important part of Presentation. People want to see the teacher "walk their talk". She has gained weight and not looking fit. people are starting to talk and will turn people away from the subject. Does she have endocrine or metabolic issues? eating too much sweet fruit? i only found 1 short interview with her and she mentioned eating too many nuts and eating too late at night, i think there is more

  • Great recipe to share. Thanks wantanmien

  • great job

  • beside using kale what other veggies can you use?

  • @yengbren Collard greens, spinach, dark lettuce leaves probably, chard, dark bok choy (probably get the larger one and pick off the green part and use the rest for something else like juicing - waste not!), dandelion greens. Just any dark leafy green. I've probably missed many. Just go to your store and see what you find.

Apparently, it's not good to use other vegetables other than leafy greens.

  • sometimes I like to add some carob powder with my frozen bananas and frozen kale.. makes a sweet, thick, icey cold chocalaty shake.. and the carob makes the drink brown too like a chocolate milk shake

  • how would an athlete use green smoothies and the raw food diet if he needs huge amounts of protein to pack on muscle. Normally such athletes would consume protein in every meal in small quantities. How can you use food combining to healp this goal ?

  • I have pre diabetes, I had my green smoothie this morning, but my blood sugar was 151 after 2 hours, eventualy does it straughten itself out??? Thanks

  • @rosuabsc I also have blood sugar issues and am about to start incorporating green smoothies into my diet. I cannot handle high sugar fruits, so bananas, mangos, etc. are out to the question for me. Look for fruits that are low on the glycemic index.

  • @TheSonicchick, not sure if you are aware of this or not but stone fruits ie, peaches, cherries, plums etc. have a low glycemic index.

    Much love,

    Lockness

  • I like Victoria a lot :) this advice is really helpful, I love here story, she is such a sweety

  • Thank you for the information!!

  • @rosuabsc you're very welcome!

  • I love green smoothies, but everyttime I eat them I get indigestion, so I never get far with doing it on a regular basis, I want to try again, if I continue with it will the indigestion stop??

  • @rosuabsc it will depend on what you are putting in them. keep it super simple. maybe one type of fruit and one kind of green. drink slowly on an empty stomach and don't eat anything immediately after. if it still persists consider either taking digestive enzymes with them or switching to green juice (organic cucumbers, organic celery and greens). good luck!

  • I thought you can ONLY mix apple with any veg or fruit , as rule veg and fruits dont mix , fruit start to forment with veg in stomach was just wondering where have u done the reserch , or are u just going for the teast , than ofcourse I can be wrong

  • @Rachna888 as far as i know, victoria boutenko does not consider greens to be a vegetable. she thinks they should have their own category and can be easily mixed with any fruit. but some have their preferences and like to stick to strict food combining, so if that works great, but if you like the smoothies and they work for you, that's great too!

  • I have hypothyroidism and I have to stay away from cruciferous veggies, spinach, cabbage, kale, collards, mustard. Is is just as beneficial to use different types of lettuce? Any other suggestions on what greens I can use?

  • @Skinnychelle48 You can use any type of lettuce, red leaf, romaine, etc. Look into sprouts like sunflower. Good luck!

  • I'll be making this smoothie tomorrow. I see the young girl who was assisting Victoria simply sliced up the whole pear and put it in the blender. So I guess that means that it's not necessary to de-core or take the seeds out of certain fruits. Is that right? Just checking. This smoothie looks really appetizing.

  • @globalgoblin i would take the seeds out of most fruits. i think they would add a undesirable consistency. also i think apple seeds are not good for you, they may have a toxin in them.

  • @abundantlivingtoday The cyanide is only released upon cancer cells if present and leaves all other healthy cells alone supposedly. Check out "A World Without Cancer". You don't die from eating a fruit with seeds. And you're not eating 50 apples all at once because it's not possible.

  • @globalgoblin that is especially true if you are blending with the Vitamix. With other blenders, they may struggle to blend up the core.

  • Pojaluysta posovetuyte kakie vitamini i minerali prinemat' dopolnitel'no i kakaya firma luchshe, kak dlya detey tak i dya vzroslih.

  • I have been drinking green smoothies for over a month and have to say they are delicious. I can feel the difference with my body. I have so much energy and feel healthier than I ever have. Is it ok to add ice with the water when making smoothies? When rotating greens, is it ok to use a different kale each day, like purple, dinosaur, etc? Is this considered rotating greens or are all the kales considered one type of green.

  • great job on having your smoothies!

it is fine to add ice as long as this does not bother you at all. for some people it is challenging to have things so cold. but if you like it, great.

as for the greens, rotating the kale this way is fine, just be sure once the different kinds of kale are finished you move onto another green like parsley, spinach, romaine, chard, etc. then you can add kale in again in a week or two.

    hope that was helpful!

  • @jackiernclnc ice is fine as long as it is not too cold for you or makes you cold. whatever your preference is and whatever it is that you like works best. also, the rotating of the kale is fine but then once you are done with your different kales, move to another family of greens, then back to kale. just good to keep it all rotating, at least ever week or two.

  • @jackiernclnc

I heard it's ok to rotate Kale as if it's a different type of green. Purlple Kale one day, another type of Kale the next etc is considered rotating! :) I've been doing the green smoothies for about a week. Funny, I have a regular osterizer blender and it has NOT been struggling at all like I thought it would. We shall see how long it lasts.

  • @jackiernclnc i freeze my kale and bananas.. then i blend the frozen kale and bananas with water. The kale blends up much faster when frozen. And the end result is a chilled green smoothie.

  • Thank you so much! I'm reading Victoria's book now, she's wonderful!

  • can u still get the nutrients if it is turned into a liquid? or do you get less cause it passes through you faster if you turn your solids into liquids?

  • Hello,

Can pregnant women drink green smoothies?

  • hi there, i am not a doctor but would highly recommend green smoothies as a great way to get nutrients.

  • @abundantlivingtoday

My daughter is preggers, and the only thing she can keep down in the morning is a green smoothie with lots of ginger root in it. She LOVES them, as does her one-year old son.

  • @liquidbutta18 you betcha!

  • @liquidbutta18 , Pregnant women most definitely can drink green smoothies. The nutrition benefits are outstanding and your baby will greatly appreciate it. :)

  • Can green smoothies be made in a standard blender? Or will it burn out the motor with daily use?

  • your regular blender will do just fine...for a while.

most do burn out after regular, daily use.

do save up for a vitamix!! it is the best investment ever!

  • aha, thanks for the vid too!

  • yea, seems to be the concensus. i saw a cpl comments about replacingm themmotor...do u know if this is an issue with them?

    and thanks for the reply.

  • got my blendtec at bed, bath&beyond .bbb has a lifetime warranty. get your money back or a new 1 if /when the motor goes .

  • I'm in NS, Canada man, we dont habe BBB here :( maybe i could order one from one of the stores out west.

how much did you pay there?? i know theyre pretty darn expensive, was checking them out on ebay yesterday...

definitely need one tho. i'm all over this green smoothie business ;)

  • ? maybe try . ca instead of . com pretty sure there are nearly 20 in your country bub. google is great : |

  • hahah yea man did that ;) pretty sure the only stores are on the west coast..

  • so, vitamix vs blendtec then?

  • Valya is so beautiful. She just radiates life.

  • i met her up close and i agree

Valya has a very unique and rare natural beauty, gorgeous face

  • don't these mixers tear the enzymes out of these foods?

  • No Blenders DONT damage enzymes

  • katrina in a blender??!! Thats my name and i feel offended!! lol

    love green smoothies

  • Everyday, In the morning, I make a smoothie, and I do not miss a day.

I hate the taste of Spinach, but I can mask the flavor by adding raspberries and blueberries...and I add the Spinach, and mix it all up. It comes out as a purple drink, but it's very tasty.

Next time I'll blend Kiwi, Asparagus, green apples, bananas and Spinach...I think that would be a super green drink!! :)

  • Try mixing up your greens. Try using a few kale, collard, and/or dandelion leaves, or some fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro. I realize that the above mentioned greens have a stronger flavor than spinach so you might want to add more fruit.

  • Honestly, I prefer smoothies that are a really vibrant green color. I love seeing all of the nutrients I am getting. Green smoothies are arguably the best raw food invention ever!

  • me too i always make my smoothies color themed by using similarly colored fruit and/or veg

  • GREEN SMOOTHIES ARE THE BEST!

  • her Husband Igor can do 1,000 push ups ! hes a superman

  • TONS of vita mixes are sold cheap on ebay

  • I tried making them in an old food processor and they are so chunky. I've gonna have to save up for a blender. Green smoothies are awesome.

  • ebay

  • what is the best procesator or mashine to make smoothies, phillips or what mark?

  • Vita Mix. Bar None. Very expensive, but they are amazing and for a lifetime. I just bought one just for these purposes and it is so powerful.

  • this victoria is saying the vita-mix, i got a cuisinart blender/processor that blended greens like crazy this morning.

  • sometimes Costco has a limited time demo and sells them at a better price than the Vitamix website. Call the store to find out the demo schedules.

  • What a convincing video - I will certainly try putting greens in my smoothies from now on. I probably don't have a powerful enough blender - wonder about that??

  • I bought a Oster 700 watt blender at Walmart today for $44, I made 2 green smoothies and a watermelon slushie, and it did the job well. I add ice cubes, and this blender could handle it. So you don't have spend $400 on a Vitamix right away.

  • great video , but can you tell me what kale is please. i live in australia . i havent heard of it . sorry for my ignorance.

  • you will find kale in the vegetable section. it's a dark green leafy vegetable. it's like a bitter spinach.

  • I dont really like the look of green smoothies, but the taste is fine - you dont taste the veggies at all! - and I always feel more energetic after having one. But the reason I choose to drink green smoothies is I always LOOK better after having one!! My skin almost glows, my hair becomes really soft and my I dont have break outs for days!!! its amazing!! I

  • I've been drinking green smoothies everyday, and around 80% raw, for a year. I have more energy. I've lost 30 lbs, my glucose went down, I was borderline diabetic. My blood pressure went down, Yeah! I looked at a photo from last year, and noticed the crow lines by my eyes are almost gone. 46yrs old.

I try to very my greens and fruits. I use frozen fruits as a back up. I'm now going to add Hemp, Flax seed and Dulce to my smoothies. Whole foods sells Hemp Protein.

    Hope this gives ideas.

  • Katrina in a blender? rofl.

  • I drink a green smoothie everyday...no matter where I am and no matter who I'm with...I've taken my blender with me when I travel and fro some reason , the airport security people have no idea what a blender looks like....idiots...

  • are blenders allowed as carry-on luggage?

  • Yes , TSA doesn't know what it is at first but after they look thru the caary-on they always let you take it...

  • @ameliabedelia99 that's a good question. I would like to know too.. I presume you are referring to carry on luggage on commercial airlines.

It would be great if vitamix came out with a compact version of their blender for travelers.

  • @upcycle I would so buy a compact version of a vitamix - they can't be beat!

  • I drink 8 of these a day.

  • Id like to know what others think of this or if they ever tried it. Due to time constraints and small Kitchen space and lack of Kitchen Equipment, im going to go 100% Raw Vegan, but my ONLY sources of greens will be

These Various Popular, Hugely Promoted Raw Grass Powders such as Vitamineral Green , Pure Synergy, Spirulina, and E3Live Algae, along with Organic Fruits and Fats. Has anyone else out there ever tried this for a few Months ?

  • I read about green smoothies when I was on day 4 or 5 of a 100% raw month. It was my first attempt. The first few days I had upset stomachs, but once I started doing green smoothies the problem went away. I have never used powders so I can't comment on them, but the smoothies are great for digestion, cleansing, and energy. Congratulations on going raw!

  • also for great natural dental health use a product called

    ORAMD

  • I've used green powders, but not as my only source of greens. The smell /taste of oxidized green smoothies (about a day old) reminds me of the powder's.

  • Oooh dear. At least eat sprouts, then, darling, promise. Anyone, anywhere can grow sprouts if you have some fresh water. I lived on sprout salads while on 3 day extreme backcountry hikes and had more energy and effortless recovery than I've ever had. Give it a try - no need for fancy equipment. Soak the seeds in a 1/2 pint deli cup, transfer to a nut milk bag and rinse twice a day. Voila: a salad far more nutritious than a dried, dead power bar. Good luck!

  • Why is she overweight?

  • Victoria was obese when she started the raw food diet, with all the health problems that go with it. Since I have last seen her, she has lost even more weight in this. Even so, it isn't about weight, it's about health. I suggest you read the book about her family, it is a very amazing book about what this family went though in regaining their health.

  • You can be 200 lbs and alot physically healthier than someone else at same age and height who is only 100 lbs.

there is far too much weight obsession in America, its beyond ridiculous

the Conventional attitude is If you smoke, Drink and eat junk food all day long, WHO CARES ?

As long as you weigh under 120 lbs that in itself means you're healthy !

America is so clueless about health and Nutrition that its astounding

  • @911hasNOplanes are you sure of that because there are so many health food places its not funny.. even in school they teach eating sweets all day is not healthy even if you are skinny..so i really think you just made that up to feel better.

  • LOL @ katrina in a blender.

  • I'm a green smoothie addict now! It is so easy to get your fruit and veggie servings in for the day this way, and it makes me crave MORE fresh veggies. Cheers. :)

  • And Victoria is correct, as you drink more and more Green Smoothies, you do acquire a taste for the Greens.

When I first tried a few sprigs of Parsley in a Green Smoothie I said, "no way will I EVER like Parsley in a Green Smoothie". Months later, I can dump in a WHOLE BUNCH and actually enjoy it!

  • good presentation!

But actually if one looks at the "food combining"...then it considers mixing vegetables or leaves (kale, collard etc) with sub-acidic fruits like apples, mangoes, cherries, grapes etc POOR. Yes, all of them might be good in their own respect but not good together. Like two powerful people (but enemies) together. Which is why might end up in constipation, thyroid problems etc...etc.!!!Any comments on this?

  • Greens are actually considered to be their own food group and CAN be combined with fruits safely. It cures hypothyroidism- it doesn't cause it.

  • As a VitaMix demonstrator I keep Victoria's book on my booth and serve my famous "Emerald Ecstasy" Green Smoothie to my audiences.

I frequently get this question about food combining.

All I can say is that I was bed-ridden with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 7 years prior to drinking Green Smoothies. After adding Green Smoothies to my diet, I regained enough energy to take on the physically demanding job of VitaMix demonstrator.

  • I have just read her book "green for life" I am impressed. I have benifitted from her teaching and admire the fact that she took active steps for her family. She is a rare pearl. I hope someday to meet this amazeing woman who is becomming one of my heros.

  • it measures the amount of complexed sugars (BRIX)..so the higher the BRIX the higher the minerals & overall nutrition. Commercially farmed greens are full of toxic Non-Protein Nitrogen (NPN), which makes them taste horrible.

  • High Brix greens are sweet and yummy, so test your greens with a BRIX refractometer & you will see why you don't like to eat them on their own. Supermarket produce is not worthy of human consumption. That's why bugs eat it, b/c they see w/i the lower Electromagnetic spectrum, and they will not touch high Brix plants.

  • BRIX refractometer ? What are we testing for?

  • ok, to respond to the people who think victoria is sick looking or overweight. if you bothered to read her book you will realize that she has lost a LOT of weight. she may have plateaued at a weight that is not stick-skinny. also, she lives in portland which is not known for its sunshine! most of us in the northwest are vitamin D deprived in the winter and look also look pale.

  • the Boutenko's are the most awesome people in the raw food movement--- down to earth for real living people not high priced supps for rich people in Santa Monica (David Wolfe, Julianno)-- but Victoria is totally right about the body adapting and getting used to stuff.. I have gotten to the point myself of not even using anything sweet in my smoothies..

  • Yes but she is not 100% raw foodist.

  • Really ? since when ? the whole family is totally 100% -- Ive read all their books ... and met the whole family

  • I think Victoria is awesome and she has done SO much to promote raw foods. Green smoothies are fantastic and incredibly healthy. Given this, why is it that Victoria looks a bit tired and--dare I say it--not real healthy?

  • because she is still acidic from eating the poor quality foods that are widely available.

  • I think the Boutenkos are amazing, so I don't mean to be disrespectful...but I don't understand why, after being Raw for so long, is Victoria's weight on the heavy side?

  • I started drinking green smoothie 2 months ago. My whole family drink green smoothie, including my 2 sons. They love it. Now, we can't live without drink our greens. Thanks God for create them e thanks Victoria for hear the God's voice!

  • what were the effects?

  • This is so healthy! I love adding pineapple and spinach... Spinach blends so smoothly. You absolutely taste nothing but the fruit.. not the greens. Most times I do not want anything to eat unless it is green.

  • "Green for Life" is a great book and contains all of the information behind the green smoothie. If you want to be Raw all you need is this book and a high speed blender and you are set!

  • Great clip! It's so true about craving greens. After only a week and a half of drinking green smoothies, I already crave them!

  • lol @ 'katrina in a blender' .....tasteful

  • ok i really need a blender

  • Valya is sooo Beautiful !

  • Sergei's not bad either. :p

  • Oh HELL yea
