After watching this, I would say Zarak is more evil and smarter than Galvatron could ever hope to be, because he made the choice to blow cybertron to hell just to prevent the Autobots getting the advantage over the cons
I have to say the sound effects in this version of Transformers sucks. More specificly the crappy noise they use for transformers foot steps. It makes it far more cartoony than the American version ever sounded.
i watched this like 14 years ago. At that time, i didn't understand why those classic transformers (both autobots and deceptcons) sucked that much. then i understand, for new dvds and toys selling, what cannot be done? They first let Optimal suicide, then Cybertron, then Ultra Magnus got killed, then Glatvatron..
Why does Rodimus all of a sudden just up and leave like that? He could've at least given the matrix to somebody. I'm sure people would love to see a red, white, and blue "Fortress Prime." (Or would the name "Maximus Prime" be better?)

Considering a loss of his homeplanet, Rodimus may have considered it to be the heaviest defeat and wanted to go where there wasnt such defeat for him.
Rodimus always had doubts about his own leadership, I guess being the autobot leader who let Cybertron be destroyed just made him finally give it all up. Besides Fortress Maximus is pure pwnage lol

I love it when people talk about how Headmasters re-scripted everybody, but they fail to mention that in Transformers the Movie that most of the cast from the 1984-1985 season were killed off.
Some were shown as "killed" then they were shown again, in season three after the movie. Dirge is one of them. So, the American version has plot holes as well.
Dirge wasnt actually shown dying, he just gets smashed by unicron with the other rocket head jets, what always amazed me is where alot of the season 2 autobots went like tracks n smokescreen... just disapeared

Transformers ended for me with the return of optimus prime. All further sequels were a lot of worthless shit. Even rebirth, doesnt fit with the ending of the previous episode so i dont count it. The headmasters idea really sucks, they wanted them to look kinda japanese mechas animation such as Mazinger Z and didnt work. No need to mention armada, energon and whatever are totally unnecessary.

Get over it people! The Japanese don't like recurring characters that's why they got rid of Rodimus and Optimus so early. Look at how their Sentai Ranger shows change annually. Still, I do prefer the American Transformers. Thanks to Takara for the invention of Transformers, though.
Point taken. I think the best approach to take with the earlier Japanese TF shows is to consider them as separate universes: Headmasters through Zone; Beast Wars II & Neo; and Car Robots.

Ultra Magnus did not WANT the job -- he was offered it in the movie but the matrix would not work for him. He wasn't the one who was chosen by cybertronian prophecy or by destiny. Springer only saw himself as a warrior, nothing more.
They sort of get lost in the shuffle as the series goes on and new characters get introduced. The cast was just getting too big to keep track of the various individuals except for a core group; Rodimus, Kup, Blurr, and Arcee, to name a few. UM is a field commander and Springer is on the front lines to help build New Cybertron.
The head master series sucked ass. The story may have been more mature, but it lacked the drive of the American series. I like the animation, hate the voices, and hate Wheelie. Rebirth was better, even though it was corny as hell, and ended to quickly.
Optimus' sacrifice was in vain. Rodimus should've given up his matrix and Daniel can breathe in space. Oh yeah, I like the way the Americans ended season 4 much better. Golden Era>Destruction of old era.

It's unsettling how the transformers didn't even try to save Cybertron. Eventhough Galvatron was the invader of Cybertron, he had more passion than Rodimus who fled like a coward. Heroes sacrifice themselves for what they believe in.
Easy: Weirdwolf, Skull and Wipe are their Japanese names and the subtitles stay faithful to them (they refer to the Transformers as Cybertrons and Destrons, for example.)
Hmmm...in the US version a group of Autobots are fleeing, Decepticons follow them to planet nebulon (nebulos?) bringing a strange artifact with them. There they encounter the hive and the nebulons. Fighting not only decepticons but also nebulons and the hive proves to be a little too much for the Autobots. At the end it says...in the next episode: The Headmasters! or something. Anyone know which ep?
well, at least it IS a lot btter than Rebirth, besides, you cant blame the japanese for creating the nebulons, and for destroying Cybertron, Starscream was the first one to try that to begin with.
planet Cybertron is the heart of the transformers! and in cybertron it even transforms into primus! Its hard trying to keep up with them all.. coz on one show its blown up, the other its alright and then next thing you kno its transformed!
My theory is that there never was a "New Cybertron", but it was the same planet, rebuilt.
After all, there was a brief reference to some science expedition returning from Mars in one of the other two Japanese series (I forget if it was Masterforce or Victory), which, if you recall, was also destroyed in Headmasters. So apparently autobots helped to reconstruct both planets.

Man, the Japanese did a great job of screwing the whole storyline as soon as they got full control of the series. They killed Prime AGAIN, restored Rodimus, blew up Cybertron and then wrote out most of the old characters. Even if the "Rebirth" was kinda sucky, it at least painted a better future for the show had it continued, with a Golden Age of Cybertron and old characters still showing up. I'm glad the American continuity ignores the later Japanese shows.

Rodimus didn't leave them hanging, he returns with the newly founded Planet Micro as the new planet for all Transformers to live, later on it is turned into new Cybertron.

Also dont forget that Galvatron also gets killed during one of the later episodes of the series I think it was entitled "The Demise of the King of Destruction". I saw many of the headmaster episodes. IMO the character/script dialogue IS kinda cheezy but it's still MUCH better than Transformers energon and cybetron crap on cartoon network.
Galvatron's death is even worse in a way. I mean, he survives an explosion of an entire planet at ground zero, yet he is halted for good by couple of tonnes of ice?
The movie was taken into account, but the 3-part finale, The Rebirth, was completely ignored. Headmasters takes place right after The Return Of Optimus Prime. Ironically, Prime died 3 episodes in and Rodimus was brought back. But I think Rodimus made a bad decision to just leave.

No, it's very real. It's quite sad actually. I think the reason this happened was because the movie went to Japan way too late (1990) so the writers didn't really take it into account. Rodimus was supposed to be the new leader for a long time, and Cybertron was supposed to be launched into a golden age. And the thing that really kills me is that they killed Optimus Prime to save Cybertron, only to have it blow up.

While the series was somewhat translated into English it wasn't from the original voice actors. It was from a Hong Kong based company called "Omni Productions"

Weird name changes (Blaster is called Billy, Blurr is Wally etc) but most of the original names stayed
This takes place in Transformers: Headmasters, which only aired in Japan. Following Headmasters, a series called Masterforce aired, which was followed by Victory. You might remember some of the Masterforce characters from the toy shelves (Pretenders, Powermaster Optimus Prime, etc)..
either way i wish they showed this in the states before i hated the direction the tranformers went in the early 90s. this looks very dark which is good .

Transformers ended for me with the return of optimus prime. All further sequels were a lot of worthless shit. Even rebirth, doesnt fit with the ending of the previous episode so i dont count it. The headmasters idea really sucks, they wanted them to look kinda japanese mechas animation such as Mazinger Z and didnt work. No need to mention armada, energon and whatever are totally unnecessary.

Get over it people! The Japanese don't like recurring characters that's why they got rid of Rodimus and Optimus so early. Look at how their Sentai Ranger shows change annually. Still, I do prefer the American Transformers. Thanks to Takara for the invention of Transformers, though.

Ultra Magnus did not WANT the job -- he was offered it in the movie but the matrix would not work for him. He wasn't the one who was chosen by cybertronian prophecy or by destiny. Springer only saw himself as a warrior, nothing more.

They sort of get lost in the shuffle as the series goes on and new characters get introduced. The cast was just getting too big to keep track of the various individuals except for a core group; Rodimus, Kup, Blurr, and Arcee, to name a few. UM is a field commander and Springer is on the front lines to help build New Cybertron.

The head master series sucked ass. The story may have been more mature, but it lacked the drive of the American series. I like the animation, hate the voices, and hate Wheelie. Rebirth was better, even though it was corny as hell, and ended to quickly.

1. Arcee becomes Binary-bonded to Daniel in HM.
2. TF: HM was too damned short in America.
3. There was a LOT more to TF: HM in Japan.
4. The dubbed copy of HM exists in England.
5. Leave it to Japan to keep good stuff to themselves -- they also held out a season or two of Sailor Moon that we Americans didn't get to see!

It's unsettling how the transformers didn't even try to save Cybertron. Eventhough Galvatron was the invader of Cybertron, he had more passion than Rodimus who fled like a coward. Heroes sacrifice themselves for what they believe in.

Easy: Weirdwolf, Skull and Wipe are their Japanese names and the subtitles stay faithful to them (they refer to the Transformers as Cybertrons and Destrons, for example.)

Hmmm...in the US version a group of Autobots are fleeing, Decepticons follow them to planet nebulon (nebulos?) bringing a strange artifact with them. There they encounter the hive and the nebulons. Fighting not only decepticons but also nebulons and the hive proves to be a little too much for the Autobots. At the end it says...in the next episode: The Headmasters! or something. Anyone know which ep?

My theory is that there never was a "New Cybertron", but it was the same planet, rebuilt.
After all, there was a brief reference to some science expedition returning from Mars in one of the other two Japanese series (I forget if it was Masterforce or Victory), which, if you recall, was also destroyed in Headmasters. So apparently autobots helped to reconstruct both planets.

Man, the Japanese did a great job of screwing the whole storyline as soon as they got full control of the series. They killed Prime AGAIN, restored Rodimus, blew up Cybertron and then wrote out most of the old characters. Even if the "Rebirth" was kinda sucky, it at least painted a better future for the show had it continued, with a Golden Age of Cybertron and old characters still showing up. I'm glad the American continuity ignores the later Japanese shows.

Also dont forget that Galvatron also gets killed during one of the later episodes of the series I think it was entitled "The Demise of the King of Destruction". I saw many of the headmaster episodes. IMO the character/script dialogue IS kinda cheezy but it's still MUCH better than Transformers energon and cybetron crap on cartoon network.

The movie was taken into account, but the 3-part finale, The Rebirth, was completely ignored. Headmasters takes place right after The Return Of Optimus Prime. Ironically, Prime died 3 episodes in and Rodimus was brought back. But I think Rodimus made a bad decision to just leave.

No, it's very real. It's quite sad actually. I think the reason this happened was because the movie went to Japan way too late (1990) so the writers didn't really take it into account. Rodimus was supposed to be the new leader for a long time, and Cybertron was supposed to be launched into a golden age. And the thing that really kills me is that they killed Optimus Prime to save Cybertron, only to have it blow up.

While the series was somewhat translated into English it wasn't from the original voice actors. It was from a Hong Kong based company called "Omni Productions"

This takes place in Transformers: Headmasters, which only aired in Japan. Following Headmasters, a series called Masterforce aired, which was followed by Victory. You might remember some of the Masterforce characters from the toy shelves (Pretenders, Powermaster Optimus Prime, etc)..
