I read the cast list before reading the book, and while reading the book, I pictured Thewlis as Montgomery and Kilmer as Prendick (Douglas, in this movie, I guess). I'm kind of disappointed to see their roles reversed. They don't seem to suit their roles at all, especially considering the novel implied that Montgomery was at least eleven years older than Prendick, and Kilmer is visibly much younger than Thewlis.
