  • A dedication for Joey's Birthday on 19th November, sent with love and laughter :D)) Our Rory rocking at his best - RoryOn!!

  • noN_sToP___"Likes"________

  • to leave rory out of any guitar betting would be to loose. gerry mcavoy lives

  • Let's form a viral thing to make this the OFFICIAL TWITTER theme song? Maybe the world can know what we've known for 40 years, that Rory is God.

  • @mitchqmitch lol, I actually think thats a good idea.

  • Rory Gallagher was one of the greatest artist and guitarist of all time.

  • UHH TEMAZO.

  • rory just the best 4 ever..ellada latreuei rory

  • Jimi Hendrix was once asked "Whats it like to be the greatest guitarist in the world", he answered, "You'll have to ask Rory that"

  • @loquayrocks Jimi is alleged to have said much the same about Jimmy Page too, and IMO Jimi, Jimmy and Rory are the holy trinity of guitar maestros who could not only deliver in the studio, but also wipe the floor with anyone live too. I think it's fair to say that we shall never see their like again.

  • What is supposed to be counted on the top 100??? 1) Ability 2)Time of relese 3)Legacy 4)Commercial Succesfulness 4)Influence on other musicians 5)"you name it..." Doesn't he have it all???

  • Comment removed

  • Rory has to be in the top ten all-time guitarists.

  • Jimi rated him as no1, nuff said!!

  • @Seanus32 rory 4 ever ur right ...

  • Rolling Stone is nothing but commercialism, which Rory was not, Therefore he gets left out....

  • we're following you <3

  • RIP RORY GOD!!!!!!!

  • I saw him open on the Boston Common for Fleetwood Mac and Savoy Brown (it was right after Deuce has come out). The crowd went nuts and kept begging for him to come back. Fleetwood Mac kept cutting their songs short because of the chants of "Rory! Rory!, then the same thing happened to Savoy Brown (who were really big at the time).

I love this song but feel sadness because he has begun to show the effects of the steroids that were misprescibed for him and eventually led to his untimely death.

  • I am kicking myself for not going to see him in concert-would've been awesome--thank God for the u- tube so I and others can see him whenever we want!! Cheers!!

  • he just makes it look so easy

  • The top 100 of the biggest guitarists from the rolling stone is the biggest joke since the world exists!

  • @ArnyLitheman could'nt agree more

  • @ArnyLitheman rolling stones there top 3 are Bob Dylan jim corr and number 1 Garth Brooks WTG Rolling stone ye guys know music

  • Good

  • Unbelievable, incredible, outragous live performances I ever saw in my entire live

  • in my opinion,he is one of the to 50 guitarist of rock music

  • Ably assisted by both Mr Brendan O'Neill and Mr.Gerry McAvoy, ladies and gentlemen the one and only Rory Gallagher.Long may his memory remain.

  • @walesdad More than ably. I always thought that, of all Rory' Gallagher tunes I've heard, this was the best showcase for their talents. Killer stuff all around.

  • Let me guess... who's number at one? John Meyer ? Oh, maybe that rip off artist Jimmy Page? Leaving this man out is sacrilege IMO....sshhheeeeshhhh !!!

  • this man should be made a saint

  • I like Rory -saw him at the Park West in Chicago 1990.

  • When Jimbo Hendrix was asked,How does it feel to be the best Guitarist in the world. He replied you should ask that question to Rory Gallagher.

  • What I wouldn't give to have seen this fella!

    XX

  • @RockyWhyNott seen him 4 times and every time it was awesome even when he was already very ill.

as far as I am concerned he is one of the purest players ever.

  • Bravo Greece keep rocking

  • Δέος... προσκυνάμε!

  • Greece will always honour and love Rory .

greatest player ever , humble and amazing person .

  • he is so unbeleavable awesome. one of my biggest guitar hero

  • Comment removed

  • I don't believe Rory Gallagher was better than Hendrix but I do prefer him personally.

  • Fan–bloody–tastic! Em to E9b5, What a monster chord change!

  • rolling stone magazine sucks...it is a magazine for kids.....

i want to repeat what hedrix said ..

    journalist :how it si to be the best guitar player in the world?;

    hendrix; i dont know ask rory gallagher;

  • BAITA GUITARRISTA!! viverás a cada nota que entrar pelos nossos ouvidos para encher nosso corações de rock'n roll !!! (Portugues)

  • the best of the best guitar man

  • who ever is doing sound, the band sounds great But wheres RORYS Guitar!! The Bass is sooooo loud, and hes great butt???? Where the f... is RORY in this mix, Sound Man?? Just venting.

  • @stevevc627 Rory always had the bass up loud, its to make up for the lack of a 2nd guitarist. The sound is great here, from a sound engineers perspective. Its the quality from the video cameras that dampening it here. The bass has to largely overpower in a 3 piece.

  • @nigellinaballerina thanks for the info... i've always thought that if i had a band i'd make the base louder than the guitar because it always sound better that way. Probably why this is one of rorys best songs.

  • @nigellinaballerina I always loved that. You are right. No argument from me. The bass should be louder. I just really couldnt hear the man enough and is most likely due to the recording.Peace.

  • One of the Greatest and most Underrated Artists of ALL Time!!!Glad his music Lives on R.I.P Rory

  • Wonderful player, but you can see his decline right there. A shadow of what he once was, and died shortly after.

  • I been listening to Rory for 40 Years. First album i bought was Deuce and Taste(same)

  • He sounds better live than studio! cant find any bands like that now..RIP Rory.

  • I was lucky enough to see him live in San Francisco a few times. The last time was in 1984 at the Old Waldorf. He was amazing!

  • @jynxww1 The Old Waldorf was great. Saw Iggy there in 78

  • RIP 15 years ago today.

  • top priority cd is awesome, stages truck really cool 2

  • Esta canção é BRILHANTE , tanto melodoia quanto a harmonia, e o riff e sensacional

  • Rory forever!

  • Thanks!

  • Love this version.

  • Jimi Hendrix was once asked how it feels to be the best guitar player in the world and his response was "I Dunno, ask Rory Gallagher"

  • Rory epitomizes rock music. From his early roots in the classic rock genre, he delivered pure energy from a single guitar with his monster riffs and sweet solos. Rory played primarily with only a bassist and drummer, but still produced huge sound live and in the studio, setting the stage for many of the hard rock bands that followed. RIP Rory!

  • His "Stage Struck" album ripped me to shreds. Great, gone too soon axemaster.

  • Such a legend, shunning the bs media mainstream and just doing his thing. Fantastic.

  • Fucking ace.Period.

  • mucho loco!

  • nah...come to the festival of rory.k

  • To leave Rory out of any greatest ax list is akin to leaving off Jimi, EC, Gilmore or Beck. Rory had 'it' and listening and watching always shows me what some truly great music really is. Badly missed. The lists are all BS anyway.

  • The undisputed KING, Like other coments have said you can listen to the other greats BUT you will always come back to Rory and be BLOWN AWAY !

  • ha, i luv the way Gerry and Rory both walked away from d mic when one of em woz supposed t be singin and they just laugh it off :)

  • one of the moments that makes him the greatest ever

  • I'm not Irish or American so objectively I can say that rolling stone leaving this guy out of the top 100 guitarists list is beyond ludicrous.

  • im totally with you... especially since jimy hendrix (#1) said rory was the best

  • i totally agree..and he was an influence for such players like, brian may, slash, johnny marr...

  • yes its sad, because rolling stone and all those kinda magazine bullshit lists, are voted on by the general public not musicians or people of any good musical taste, which is why those lists are a joke.

  • 100% agree.

  • Don't you forget about me ^^

  • @bmaj7 that shows again the saying "those who can do, those who can`t: write about it!" Another master guitarist succumbing to selfdestruction.

  • @bmaj7

Rolling Stone? You call that a magazine?

  • @MSTFreak Awesome comment.

  • @bmaj7 Fuck Rolling Stone! What do they know? Rory will still be heard when they are all long gone.

  • @bmaj7 What does Rolling Stone have to do with real music anyway? They are busy with Lady Gaga nowadays :S

  • Comment removed

  • @stati3 Excuse me.I do not understand your comment. Are you having difficulty comprehending English? If you wish I can reduce my comment to your level:

Me Like Rory Gallagher.Me play his songs.Me no understand why Rolling Stone no like Rory.

  • @bmaj7 Me understand you comment... Me like Rory too!. Rolling Stone make me sad when they no like Rory. BAD Rolling Stone! ;)

  • I listen to Jimi, SRV, Ritchie Blackmore, Johnny Winter, Albert Collins, and I say "that is great stuff". Then I come back to Rory and I say, "yep, that's it". Rory had a certain something I've never heard from any one. He was beyond a genius, to something else. I don't know what.

  • I grew up listening to Beatles, Stones, then got into Hendrix, Clapton and Johnny Winter, then later, SRV. Only discovered Rory about 2 years ago, and am just blown away. What an unbelieveable talent. I have to say he's my favorite.

  • This man was famous in Europe. But did not get the recognition he deserved in the United States. Rest in peace Rory

  • I've never seen him tap before... nice

  • i love the bit where rory nearly starts laughing cus gerry missed his que

    it begins at 3:40

    XD

  • R.IP in HEAVEN BLUES GOD RORY. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!

  • oh rory, please come down from heaven and give me just a little bit of your spirit

  • what a legend live for ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rory was the original guitar hero......absolute legend

  • god i would have died to have seen the energy he had to play so long in concert ...incred performer...thanks Rory

  • Glorious. Sad gig in a lot of ways, but Rory is brilliant as always.

Added benefit: one of the very few Rory songs that had Gerry singing, too.

  • saw Gerry Mcavoy last time on stage and he still rocks. A great bass player...and yes...Rory was the best guitar player of the world. No doubt

  • I first heard this song whenever I visited Ireland. The first song I ever heard by him. It was a compilation CD. Been a fan ever since. Rory has a special place in my heart, he made me want to learn how to play guitar. A million thanks for posting this and to Rory.

  • And mine....

  • My favourite Rory Gallagher song

  • Mine as well

  • best ever! all his songs are the best.

  • first time I saw Gerry McAvoy singing backing vocals actually

  • hendrix himself said rory was the best guitarist... "what does it feel like to be the greatest guitarist?" "i dont know man ask rory gallagher".

but thats not important tbh, they're both great at what they do which is different things, hendrix was just more successful on the mainstream therefore influenced more people as expected, doesnt mean rory is nowhere near as competent as jimi, thats just stupid making claims like that

  • wow! someone UNDERSTOOD the importance of roy buchanan AND rory ! great! because you are RIGHT! these are the very best, man! clapton is SUCH a bore these days, no? I mean, those 5 DUANE ALLMAN / CLAPTON parts of a duet by both are really thrilling but mainly because of DUANES slide ... check also LUTHER ALLISON and of course ELMORE JAMES and do not forget ALBERT COLLINS; he is some MADMAN of the blues!! there is a song there he plays with roy buchanan, too.

  • Not a big fan of Duane Allman although i respect his prowess. But check out the song Loan Me a Dime from Boz Scaggs 1st lp-Duane plays lead w/o a slide! The only time I think he's ever done so. And yeah, Clapton has been a bore for over 30 years now. He's just on autopilot. I can't understand why either. Any self respecting guitarist wants to at least keep reinventing themselves around their peers.

  • Loan Me a Dime is amazing, It's actually Steve Cropper playing, (Think Booker T or Blues Brothers)

    Duane stories grow yearly!

But verry cool that you're familiar - A True Rory Guy!!

  • i know who Cropper is. I'm a big Booker T. fan as well. but i don't see his name on the Boz Scaggs lp. But Duane Allman's is. And Rory rules the roost.

  • Roy Buchanan, and Rory were the most SOULFUL blues guitarists of all time. Albert Collins was simply GET DOWN. His finger picking style was totally unique. Did you check out Albert playing along with Gary Moore on the Montreux DVD from 1990?

  • SRV is a suberb guitar player, but his playing has as much to do with soul as I have to do with Kate Moss...

  • it's too easy for people now withe the internet available. rory came from a time when growing up learning to play offered nothing more than a bad reception radio station and a mono record player to put your needle arm back on your platter to learn licks

  • W'ont you follow me

    where I'm bound

    Times for borrowing now

  • i think roy buchanan is the most understimated and rory is too. and yet THEY ARE TWO OF TEH BEST. its eems teh so called greatest ones arent even that great compared to some guys like rory and roy (in my opinion) :)

  • What year? anyone?

  • Comment removed

  • It's 1987... there's a DVD of it available too...

  • My favorite guitar player...I didn't say best, allthough he's awesome...I just said he's my favorite.....Rory RIP.

  • "I got dragged along to watch a Gallagher tribute band in the Ulster Hall last year. The band did fine, but the thing that shocked me was the huge number of kids from about 16 to their mid 20's who were singing along and knew every word of every song by heart. "

Thats because the 'new guys' can't do this stuff..Tom Morello and Kurt Cobain have a lot to answer for...Rory was a fucking legend......listen to 'Out on the western plain, or ' Going to my hometown' he could play anything.......

  • What year? 90's, in his house, versatile as usual.

  • Better than Hendrix. Most under rated player of all time

  • he's the best, more feeling and magic that hendrix and all, he is the most forgotten and underrated guitarist in history. hendrix is the most famous. By the way, your bands aerosmith and guns and roses are very bad and very commercial. don't take it badly.

  • WOW I mean golly huh gee BAD TO THE BONE Sign me the fuck up

  • amazing..........just amazing

  • I got dragged along to watch a Gallagher tribute band in the Ulster Hall last year. The band did fine, but the thing that shocked me was the huge number of kids from about 16 to their mid 20's who were singing along and knew every word of every song by heart. That was the awsome bit of the night for me and it made it more memorable than watching the band. Rory's music is gonna always live on.

  • What a feeling of freedom at the solo...!!!

Some people are like comets... don't come so often, don't stay much but the really do shine!

  • the best

  • Rory plays inside the strings, with force but with class. Surprised at the way he works the top knob instead of a vibrato bar. This guy was a natural born original.

  • This must be an awfully rare, special clip to see Gerry McAvoy singing!! Very nice! ;) Thankfully we have these clips since Rory's no longer here, especially for those of us daft enough never to have seen him (but still be influenced by him).

  • It is from Live at the Cork opera house DVD, i seriously recommend it, every track is brilliant.

Also i love Gerrys vocals, wish he would have done it more often

  • or women..sorry maybe.

  • Legend....

  • absolutely man

  • Sorry Richie but after careful consideration he is my overall favorite. Plus I imagine if he were still alive he wouldn't rudely snub me after his show you prick!

  • Awesome.... just awesome. Blows anything away you see today.

  • This song is the anthem of my life!

  • Used to play this on stage in the school band. Was a ball ache as a 16 year old trying to sing like him. Something to aspire to though. God bless ya Rory. X

  • Since your here on this site, and checking this view out, admit it! This is a bad ass view!...and Joe at 963 aproves of this comment.

  • a god

    a god

not tee god, but a god

  • It sould be illegal to allow this music to be aired to the public...it makes you feel stupid when you try to duplicate his talents on your own guitar.

  • Can't tell if he looks more like Pippin or like Geddy Lee lol

  • Those dirty greek basterds from you tube sure are cool! I love Rory!...but I wouldn`t marry him.

  • a tope tio!!!!!!!!!

  • es el mejor viva rory gallagher

  • Summer 84, St.Goarshausen, the 7th Golden Summernightfestival: I saw Rory giving much more than just 120% !!!!

  • I love rory and his songs so much

  • It sounds even better on DVD!! The only weird thing is the seated audience. Apparently the film company warned them before the show to stay in their seats (although some of them couldn't contain themselves towards the end). Must've felt pretty strange for Rory & the band too, but it's a great show nonetheless.

  • Gerry McEvoy has the greatest stage presence ive ever seen. Man he works the stage.

  • Gerry McAvoy please!

  • I miss Rory also so much

  • i do too...

  • I think that was 1987 was it, I remember watching it on irish TV. The rare times RTE actually showed him in the eighties. The first time I saw him was at the Self Aid concert in dublin in 1986 which was televised. Its great now being able to view so much of his material. I cannot understand why VH1 does not show some of his videos.

  • i think it's just as well they don't show him on vh1, rory was the peoples musician. i reckon it would be sinful! but what do you reckon?

  • yea maybe you are right vh1 is not as good as it was, they showed really good stuff a few years ago when they were trying to establish themselves. I was listening to irish radio yesterday and a woman came on from australia, she said she came from australia to ireland especially for the rory gallagher festival in ballyshannon. She could not believe how good an arist he was. The radio staff were a bit bemused that she came all that way for rory gallagher, not even U2 could generate that dedication

  • exactly.

  • well..So am I, planning to go to to Ireland almost only on purpose to go to the Ballyshannon festival too.. By the way, It sounds not so impressive than Australia, I'm from France, is not so far after all ;)

  • cause u2 are shite compared to rory.they are well over rated

  • How have I not heard this song yet?!? Awesome-ness!

  • i love to much.i miss you rory.

  • This was one talented man!

  • Excellent!!!
