unless of course you mean profanity doesn't have a signified, in which case your statement is simply false since the qualifiers which make language profane are completely arbitrary, yet the words themselves are almost unanimously and profoundly significant, (like 'fuck') or are themselves euphemistic, 'pussy,' for example.

Language that has meaning--that is, it means something, it describes something, it helps the human being express his thoughts--is not worthless. Words like "fuck" aren't significant primarily because they don't have meaning: what's a fuck? Is it having sex? Is it something you say when you stub your toe? If so, what are you saying? Nothing. What's your point? You don't have one. You're angry, so you emit an angry sound instead of finding a descriptive word, the mark of an unsophisticated mind.

one can emit any sound under any circumstance. if it is appropriate to the context, whether it is considered a profanity (established as arbitrary qualification) or not is irrelevant. thus, the asssertion that choosing 'ouch' or 'fuck' when one stubs their toe marks the 'sophistication' of a mind is absurd (to the sophisticated mind). good day to you =)

Your argument is self-contradictory. "one can emit any sound under any circumstance"--exactly. Not every sound one makes in response to an emotion/feeling is a word. Ouch is a definite word, has definite meaning, and has been around since the 1300s. Fuck? Not so much. Definitely whether a word is considered profanity, and therefore worthless, is relevant in regards to public speech.

"Ouch" and any other "curse word" out there today, can be related when used if in pain. 99.999% of America over the age of 16 has used a "curse word". Get over it, and you should probably just lock yourself in your house if you want to avoid it.
