Roanld Reagan was President for two terms. I almost forgot about that one... And Brian Mulroney was in Ottawa at the time... Wow. Another era altogether.
At least the Americans who fled to Canada at the time enjoyed the nice benefits of a social economic Canadian system (ex. healthcare) while Reagan blew up the deficit like there was no tomorrow!
Just to hear that music takes me back to boyhood! I used to sneak my T.V on at night to hear Knowlton deliver the news. I only wished that my kids would do the same. They would not get hell from me, I would encourage them, and let them know that I appreciate the fact that they want to know what is going on in their world. It is those reasons why I know what I do today. I am a proud Conservative, and hope that my children will one embrace this patriotic wave. God Bless Canada!
@cockshe Yeah, not here to watch Reagan. Brings me back to my teen years, my dad staying up late to watch this. I often watched some of it with him. The National was great in those fine years, the 80s. Awesome opening, made everyone want to see the news!
Amazing how little we've grown in the past 20 years. Politics and war is still that same old BS song it always was. Just different settings and players. Those opening graphics always made me seasick too.
@RustedRotor204 I know as american especially it seems like time makes it seem in our memories that it was better simpler then but your right same old bullshit between libs and cons dems repubs south of you... I didnt realize that you guys had bickering to this degree as well I thought everyone was peacful and friendly to each other up there although you guys do have a lot more sensible descions up there thou health care and better to your citizens...
When I was a little girl, I was scared like hell by this opening. :( Even now I find the music and logo creepy. Too bad the CBC kept this intro for seven years- I had insomnia for many of them, as my folks *insisted* on watching this after I went to bed.
Trudeau never knew when too leave and Beirut is still messed up to this day!

hate to think how the theme for Mr Dressup may traumatized you...now that was creepy...Mr Dressup and his, uh...tickle trunk?
ldhorricks 3 years ago
Strangely enough, Mr. Dressup never bothered me. Even if he was a creepy old man.

Same here. I think they tried to be cutting-edge futureistic, but yeah, even now it looks like some sort of broadcast from a dystopian society.
