I love this video. I was out backpacking in 2008 around the time you filmed this (abundant mosquitoes and all!). Nice shots... you've captured the canyon well :-)
I assume this is cherry creek on the Tuolumne river? If so, I never knew there was an 'upper' section. Looks pretty awesome. Would love to just hike that area...it's stunning. River looks pretty intense too. Where in relation to the put-in for the 'regular' cherry creek run is this (how much up river)?
Cherry Creek classic is mostly the upper section of 'The T' below holmes powerhouse. This section is an 11 mile section that drains into Cherry Lake shown at the end of the video. Google Earth is your friend and backpacking there is fantastic.
cool thanks. I'm not in Cali much any more, but next time I'm there, I think I'm going to have to add a trip up there to my agenda...it looks spectacular. I've run the regular Cherry Creek a few times and iirc it seemed like we had to time it just right (for flows). I assume the same holds true for this upper section (if not more so) based on your response below. Any suggestions for time of year? Also which one is 'Cherry Bomb'?
looked like the flow was lower than when I did it. How did it go? I want to try and get in there at the most managable flow possible, so I don't have to portage half the run like I did last time.
OMG!! I hiked this canyon years ago...never though it could be run by kayak! Absoulutely amazing and stunning runs of "impossible" waterfalls. I'll stick to kayaking down Chil Bar, guys!! Who are the paddlers?
