I'm totally memorized by such wonderful Libyan chant... It reminds me of the monastic Gregorian chant and the very liturgical recitative. I wish Libyans would preserve such wonderful treasures and archive them where they find them.
Please keep them coming.
Such uplifting melodies even linguistic ignorant like myself can appreciate such great repertory.
God save Libya and long live Libya free form tyranny.
I live outside the country and i used to download maloof from libyanonlinecom but now the website is not working so can u please post some more for us. salah
What a wonderful song ! Can anyone please explain me what is lybian "Maloof" ? Is it a traditional music style ? What is the title ? I'd like to use it for bellydancing.
As far as I know Libyan Maloof music is a style of traditional music of Libya which has been influenced by the style of Arabic music originating in Islamic Andalusia (Southern Spain) between the 9th and 15th centuries.
It sounds like a gorgonian chant, Christian hymn and it might be even misunderstood for Jewish Liturgy. I like it a lot. I like to confused with a baroque music of that renaissance music.
Thanks
Ps, please add more of it and make us all proud of who we are.
I can understand only a little little bit arabic so I didn't know it's a religious kind of music. The rhythm'd work very good for bellydancing but ok, it's not the "just" music for it ! Thank u for having told me this :)
@coollibya89, when I wrote this comment years ago I didn't know this was a religious music :) I had just started learning bellydancing.
Now I know much more Arabic, I can more or less understand what it's about, and either much more about bellydance, thence - no need for feeling offended, I know well the differences.

It would be nice if the pictures shown are from Libya instead of the Alhamba Palace in Granada.
alexsoinne 1 year ago
@alexsoinne: Well this style of music originated in Arabian Spain so the Alhambra is not completely out of place!
