100s of years worth of tar sand, not oil as you know it.
When you're talking about something that could easily spell TEOTWAWKI, you kinda owe it to yourself to actually research it and not just rely on what your gut feeling is telling you. "I think" is just not good enough.
Peak oil is real. In fact, we've already peaked. Next up is rising oil prices and scarcity, some time in 2009/2010, whenever demand rises above available supply. And it will eventually, since oil is FINITE, unlike money.
Nothing I can remember. 1984 is the name of George Orwell's famed novel about a dark fascist future, more or less what the present regime seems to covet.
Just finished the book and it's awesome. Apart from the fact that is just a great thrilling novel, it is filled with facts and references that will open the eyes of many nay-sayers. A must read, no joke! Disregard this novel (and the facts contained herein) at your own peril. Thank you, Steve, for bringing the message in such a mindboggling way.
How do you know they are facts? Did you actually check the references? Or do you just trust the guy since he made up a fiction novel that you somehow believe?
Okay Steve, you have me scared with this one. I still would not want to face a very large shark, but you have made your point with this trailer. I remember well the gas lines of 1973. Just a novel? Let's hope so. I look forward to getting the book. It will join ALL of your other books that I own.
I just finished the first 100 pages of The Shell Game and I'm just speechless. I couldn't put it down. This book is out of my box, more political intrigue than I usually go for, but I was right there in the room and understanding every word that was said. It is laid out superbly, I am completely connected to the main character. I am an expert at judging authors. I read with the utmost prejudice. I can't wait to finish the book, except that then I won't have anything to read.
I don't see why America can't use the billions of money they take from tax payers to support wars and other countries to make new oil refineries here and just bitchslap the treehuggers and tell them to go to hell, because I'm sure that we all know they probably use the stuff themselves. I think it's even more pathetic that an NFL player could make so much money for tossing around a stupid ball when we could be using that money for better things like this and paying back Debts.
There is a lot of untapped oil on US ground the tree huggers, bunny huggers, and enviornmentalists fund the politicians to makes excuses not to tap it. The Oil companies say that new refineries are too expensive....what a load of crap when they make billions.
I think I prefer the Domain Trilogy, I am waiting for Phobos since I finished the second part. I'd also like to read the shellgame, sounds interesting
I'm a Steve Alten fan but this book sounded fairly boring. The trailer was pretty interesting though and I may now have to give it a read if it gets good reviews and isn't full of 911 conspiracies and anti-Bush propaganda.
Steve - I look forward to reading this book!!! This is scarier than Meg and Goliath and all the other ideas you have put forth in your books... And i can't wait to see how close to the truth this is...
..so when are you going to be on Jon Stewart???? This is something close enuff to politics!
a 60 ft shark can die in many different ways and it only tends to effect people and things in the water. An oil shortage with all the crazy ppl here just in american .... it effects soo many people and trying to get people to change is bloody well impossible - like trying to herd cats - NOT VERY LIKELY!
not just an oil shortage, the feds lying about it, war for oil, eventualy a would wide war for fuel. don't forget the big three, us, russia, and south korea. together we could kill everyone on earth and then some with our nukes. 8 billion would die, theres only six billion on earth today.

Absolutely the most important book since 1984. If every American read THE SHELL GAME, this would be the best thing that has happened in my lifetime.

No it's not scarier than Meg. I would rather face an oil shortage than a 60 foot shark. You are crazy.
