also if you liked the dinner party you should look into the rest of her art work, form the feminist days. Womenhouse, the birth project, and through the flower are some of her greatest works next to the dinner party. Don't forget she's Jewish, she's got an art collection called from light to darkness (it might be backwards though)
the Dinner Party goes beyond its physicality....but of course for the IGNORANT viewer (like this guy!) of course...just vaginas... read more people...read more. see beyond.
think i might make a giant cock shaped tabel with names of loads of great men on a big pedastool with all the places for diners round the table have cock shaped plates... fabulously idiotic femenism.
@oleedee You have to understand that back in the day women didn't have any rights, even at the time the dinner party was made. We have loads of Phallic(penis shaped) art work done by men, but when a women does yonic( vaginal shaped) work it's considered dirty or pornographic. That's why the dinner party was such a shocker at the time. If you did do the phallic version of the dinner party you'd probably have to make sure all they at off it was hot dogs ( :
@TillDeath93 good point. it must have taken some great inspiration and courage to pull a thing like that off.
but women that are still on that trip need to stop because its lost on my generation. you just look like sexist idiots if you do that now. and that goes for the guys doing cock art also. boring idiots.
@oleedee Yes in deed it did, I have to research her for my English class, and found out she lost everything, money, marriage, put into debt, when she made the dinner party. I agree with that to; yes we still don't have perfectly equal rights but we are still moving forward and eventually we will all be treated equal . . . okay so it might take a shit load of generations after me to fulfill it but it'll happen.
It's always great to see images of this ground-breaking work -- but this video sooo misrepresents its meaning, intent, and even impact. It's filled with misconceptions and errors -- I certainly hope you find a better way to introduce your students to the work.
I guess this is why fine art and entertainment tv make for really strange bedfellows. I love this piece but couldn't stop laughing at this guy's delivery.
I'm not sure what to think of this. Seems like "Bizarre Foods," where the guy goes around and eats everything that no one else would ever eat. Interesting idea for a food show, where there is plenty of TV competition. But, as of now, there is no competition for an art show, so I hope this show gives the audience something that they would want to "eat".
But I think modern art is childish and boring. I want to see a clip where he talks about some really great paintings and sculptures--art that really inspires.
Hilarious! I can't wait till the artsy-fartsy types stumble across this and go apoplectic as Sandstead points out, with wit and charm, that the emperor has no clothes.
Great clip, although I've seen Lee Sandstead speak several times and one of the things that he does really well is to make beautiful and inspirational art interesting, if not downright cool. So while I am absolutely psyched about his new show, what I am really looking forward to is seeing Lee discuss beautiful art rather than the modern stuff like the work featured in this clip.
PS: I can't wait for the show, so please post more clips! Thank you!

Oh come on, they ARE meant to look like vaginas. It's art! What would you have him say instead? Female genitalia? Vulvae?

Lee Sandstead is very entertaining. He makes art fun, and I am sure that this is just a taste of what is to come from his show on the Travel Channel.
