In the UK an article in the Independent (published in 2005) reported that in the previous 12 years only 30 people had been shot dead by British police.
US police on the other hand are involved in fatal shootings on a daily basis.

I think CO19 are the best group to counter the gun crime in the UK and SWAT are the best for the gun crime in USA. I mean stateside the criminals seem far more aggressive and use far more potent weapons.

Ultimately, CO19 doesn't have close to the same command and training structure as the SAS, the best the SAS can do is give some tips.
Yeah, it's definitely not up to SAS standards, and I certainly wasn't comparing the two; my point was that CO19 also have some military type training similar to SWAT.
@Glumlock Patriotic comments are never relevant. CO19 are a good force and can complete the required objectives set. When comparing S.W.A.T to CO19, CO19 are not as prepared considering S.W.A.T use a wide range of military tactics and are adequately equipped. Maybe for the primal reason being that anyone in the US can get a gun, as of the UK guns are illegal everywhere, also in the US there are more notorious criminals, But we do have our share of crime, remember, Be proud that CO19 are heros.
CO19 also use some military tactics and AFAIK they use very similar equipment to SWAT.
Also, guns are not illegal in the UK. I have a couple of shotguns in my cabinet which I use at the weekend, I go shooting with people who have firearms licences to use high powered rifles for shooting deer.

you would need to do a 2 year probabtion in a home office accredited police force, then apply, complete a hell of a lot of tests including written and psychological, then you go on firearms training including standard drills, then you go on to start. Its a lengthy pocess, and you have to be a good copper in your probabation to boot also.

it really is sad that blacks tend to be overrepresented in crime statistics, and the fact its not just here in the US is even more troubling.
I blame the ghetto culture that glorifies drug use, violence, and hatred for cops, it spits in the face of Western values. Combine that with affirmative action, hate crime laws, & political correctness, and you can see why black people have a bad reputation. Its a fucked up cycle.

I apologize if I came off as racist; a few years ago, a close female friend of mine was raped by a black guy; he was named De'Sean Atkins. His mother had the nerve to defend his character in court and call my friend a liar; people like that make me angry and it clouds my judgment when I think about it.

@bgibb101 You're absolutely right! There is indeed a considerable degree of causation (possible criminality) when one examines the private, family life of offenders per se. Some environments (outright sink' estates in UK for example) can prove prevalent to criminality for those growing up therein. @Glumlock I don't know, SWAT get a hell of a lot of experience and training which is more para-military than policing.
I think CO19 are the best group to counter the gun crime in the UK and SWAT are the best for the gun crime in USA. I mean stateside the criminals seem far more aggressive and use far more potent weapons.

@Treblaine yeh SWAT is probably better, its just the fact that they are used to gun crime. but the co19 unit are good because if a gun report comes in they will be there in a flash.
Its like:
how the US deal with bombs going off. - the UK deal with guns going off.
And if a terorist or bomb ...etc happens, we have the SAS the best elite fighting force in the world.

Unfortunately, from what SAS "insiders" have stated, training from SAS doesn't amount to the SAS standard: they have variously stated disappointment in CO19 - though that is in comparison to their own very high standard.
Ultimately, CO19 doesn't have close to the same command and training structure as the SAS, the best the SAS can do is give some tips.

@Glumlock Patriotic comments are never relevant. CO19 are a good force and can complete the required objectives set. When comparing S.W.A.T to CO19, CO19 are not as prepared considering S.W.A.T use a wide range of military tactics and are adequately equipped. Maybe for the primal reason being that anyone in the US can get a gun, as of the UK guns are illegal everywhere, also in the US there are more notorious criminals, But we do have our share of crime, remember, Be proud that CO19 are heros.

CO19 also use some military tactics and AFAIK they use very similar equipment to SWAT.
Also, guns are not illegal in the UK. I have a couple of shotguns in my cabinet which I use at the weekend, I go shooting with people who have firearms licences to use high powered rifles for shooting deer.
It's only handguns which are illegal.
You only need to look at what happened with Raoul Moat earlier, which coincidently CO19 were involved in, to see what equipment and tactics they use.

@xboxboff No they aren't mate in terms of police officers they are the best you can get but they aint got jack on the SAS, Armed police officers might get a few hundred rounds a year to fire whereas the SAS CT Team use thousands a day and drill everyday that and one is Law enforcement and one is Army Special forces so you can't compare them

@Glumlock We're completely different to SWAT really. SWAT are called in for specialist situations like hostage situations and bank robberies and shit. CO19 are basically area cars with added duties.

you would need to do a 2 year probabtion in a home office accredited police force, then apply, complete a hell of a lot of tests including written and psychological, then you go on firearms training including standard drills, then you go on to start. Its a lengthy pocess, and you have to be a good copper in your probabation to boot also.
