I get "picked on" for the same reason, but I don't go out and announce all my beliefs and whatnot. If someone asks me my thoughts on a certain subject, I will give it to them. I don't get why I'm (and others) are picked on for answering a question honestly, and to someone who wanted to hear an honest opinion.

Giving religious opinions and forcing others to change just causes bad stuff. Like my friend was forcing me to become Christian like her but I didn't. We are still friends after 3 years but that sorta scarred our friendship.
I'm from Mississippi. In the bible belt. And people ask on a DAILY BASIS, like it's asking what you're favorite color is or something, when you were baptized. Or what church you go to. Or what's your favorite religious singer. No joke. It becomes awkward for people like me or my boyfriend when people assume we're christians, when in reality I'm a polytheist and he's a satanist. How do I respond to these people when they ask these questions? It's so... aggravating.

My education has been ruined because of this school..they don't attempt to teach math, which is my weakest sub.

The way you went through school sounds insanely similar to the way I did too lol, it made life a lot easier, yeah my actual friends knew my thoughts and views, and yeah I was picked on if I wore a shirt from a video game or anime or something but I kinda just ignored it and after a while the teasing would just stop cause they noticed I didn't care. I think a lot of kids don't realize that if you don't shove this or that down other peoples throats you're less likely to have problems.
Although I do not agree with all that you say I do agree with you on several stances. My son has wanted a tatoo since he was 13 one that he designed. I have never wanted him to get one. He is now 18 1/2 yo and I spoke to him lasked week and I agreed that if he will wait until he is at leat 25 or 26 I will not be angry with him. I will not like even if he choses to get it at that point but at least he isn't a child making that choice. I hope he changes his mind before then. :)

I disagree, I think school is a place where much of the personality and opinions are formed, so sharing opinions is quite an important thing.

I often bring my beliefs up in conversation at my school, however I do this in context. If someone tells me their opinion I think it is fair for me to share mine, I am not preachy or anything, I just love discussion and debate.
Exactly. Only bring up your opinions and beliefs when it's needed or asked for. Time and a place for anything. I don't see how anyone can disagree with this. Nothing wrong with protesting, but save it for the right time. There's a time and place for standing up for who you are and what you believe in, but making it obvious is going to bring in a lot of unwanted attention. I wasn't picked on in high school because I kept to myself too. I had fun, but I didn't draw attention to myself that would make people want top pick on me. I was picked on in middle school and I brought that onto myself.

i think this and the last video in this series are totally against what you are for. i say be yourself and if you get picked on for being yourself, ignore. however, if you are just saying things to stir up controversy, that is wrong. but stating what you believe is not.

The way you went through school sounds insanely similar to the way I did too lol, it made life a lot easier, yeah my actual friends knew my thoughts and views, and yeah I was picked on if I wore a shirt from a video game or anime or something but I kinda just ignored it and after a while the teasing would just stop cause they noticed I didn't care. I think a lot of kids don't realize that if you don't shove this or that down other peoples throats you're less likely to have problems.

Although I do not agree with all that you say I do agree with you on several stances. My son has wanted a tatoo since he was 13 one that he designed. I have never wanted him to get one. He is now 18 1/2 yo and I spoke to him lasked week and I agreed that if he will wait until he is at leat 25 or 26 I will not be angry with him. I will not like even if he choses to get it at that point but at least he isn't a child making that choice. I hope he changes his mind before then. :)

a kid i know made a completely unprovoked and unneeded comment on a fb status
a friend of mine wrote that a teacher should come back to our school.
the kid was the first to comment saying that nobody liked this teacher and that she should never come back
this provoked a 32 comment argument against the kid.
the kid kept going on at school about how it was his opinion and how he had the right to it
a useless comment about a personal grudge, just a stupid attempt to get self satisfaction.

I disagree, I think school is a place where much of the personality and opinions are formed, so sharing opinions is quite an important thing.
And it doesn't have to be a rude or umpleasent thing. And this is being said by an atheist who goes to a catholic school, and yet manages to argue about plenty of things with the religion teachers and still get along just fine.
As long as the ideas are exposed in a polite, non-provocative way, I don't see the problem.

This is potentially very dangerous. There's never a good reason to be picked on. When you're a teen in school, a school environment is a gigantic portion of your life and, of course, politically minded teens will express their opinions. Never, ever get into victim blaming. Hmm. I like high school. I usually get made fun of because of the crazy outfits I wear, but even then, most everyone is nice to me. People generally ask for my opinion, and I have to agree a little with Onision here. If you just walk up to people and tell them your opinion, expect someone to disagree. Exactly. Only bring up your opinions and beliefs when it's needed or asked for. Time and a place for anything. I don't see how anyone can disagree with this. Nothing wrong with protesting, but save it for the right time. I had a friend in high school who was fairly anti-Christian, and he only ever brought up his opinion on Christianity whenever the subject came up. Otherwise, he said nothing about it because he wasn't a self-righteous prick.

It's very inconsiderate of the limitations of teenage lifestyle to tell us that we have no right to state our beliefs in school because there are "other places" to do so.
Actually, Onision, we don't have anywhere else. Our parents control our lives and what we do online.
Plus, teachers encourage us to share our thoughts. Many kids consider self-expression to be an important part of being a member of a school community. I think kids like your teenage self are the ones letting the system down.

High School for me was shit from yr 8 - yr 10, i got hassled from the other kids & a couple of the teachers, i wasnt emo, goth (those terms weren't used when i was at school) or even antisocial, i just kept 2 myself & kinda would stay out of everyones way cos in my eyes i was gonna be in ppls ways even if i just sed hey (i did have a few friends, we were all abit like that). Part way thru yr 10 i changed schools, going 2 alternative school where i could be myself & not "hide". I loved it there

I think the subscription analogy is very conditional to the person you are referring to. people who identify as LGTB generally tend to suffer from the opinions of others being forced down their throats, I know since I identify as such.. yet I did nothing to force my opinions on them, only to defend myself and my existence, which is my human right.

I agree. A lot of the time people get made fun of for making statements like that. There's a time and place for standing up for who you are and what you believe in, but making it obvious is going to bring in a lot of unwanted attention. I wasn't picked on in high school because I kept to myself too. I had fun, but I didn't draw attention to myself that would make people want top pick on me. I was picked on in middle school and I brought that onto myself.

completely agree. high school especially is not the place to voice your opinions because 1) most are too complacent to care 2) people will make your life living hell in high school (trust me, I know) and 3) it's not worth your time.
