  • Brat got in the way!

  • In other news, great clip! =)

  • Guys, word of advice, just ignore Cockroach2008, he is nothing more than a compulsive liar, an attention seeker and a pedophile.

  • @Paraffinmeister You must know from a great deal of personal experience -

  • @TheBeechingAxe Yup. If asked I'll gladly remove all my comments from the clips, however until then they can remain as a monument to his utter stupidity. Only reason I keep arguing with him is for the entertainment value.=P

  • @Cockroach2008. As I stated when you've shot your &%^sucker off on other posts. I would sleep better at night after I watched you get ground up (feet first) by a stoker and burned in a steam loco's firebox . Or just open the firebox door on 844, throw you in and let her cook you. But then again you probly wouldn't burn as good as coal or oil moreover we couldn't have whats left of you plugging up the flue tubes. damn happie.

  • @jay600katana Thank you for the very kind wishes. I sincerely appreciate it!

Knowing this equipment is on it's way to the scrapper for melting just warms the cockels of my heart. Knowing that desperate people who need cash to survive can remove whistles, bells, headlights, marker lights, gauges, controls & so many other parts & sell them from these relics with NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

Think of it as the greatest gift the steam locomotive could ever offer; self sacrifice for it's people!

  • Cockroach i Got some news for you. long live the steam locomotives and i hope to God they Can Restore as many steam locomotives as possible . Some One just a comment. I should not comment on your opinions because thats exactly what you want, to provoke others

  • @Timrathmore i am restoring 4 steam locomtives! we are trying our best to RESTORE RESTROE RESTORE!!!

  • It is going to cost you! When you run out of money, remember, you can sell them for scrap & then it will be JUNK, JUNK, JUNK, SCRAP, SCRAP, SCRAP, CUT APART & MELTED, MELTED, MELTED!

I makes good materials for new products.

Won't get far when the collectible parts are removed & sold for the quick cash they can get.

Whistles, bells, pressure gauges, water sight glasses, headlights, marker lights, number boards, boiler over pressure pop off valves, tubes all can be sold with NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

  • @Cockroach2008 oh i know, but i try to keep away from scappers. i do sell parts that just can't be fixed. but as for scarpping the whole thing, i don't see the point. They cost if ran propperly about the same as a diesel. Besides. we got money, just go make it no need to REDUCE, just go work harder. I'm 13 and work for this stuff. If you wan metal or that much so bad go to a ship yard you won't miss out!

  • @Cockroach2008 Oh my poor, misguided friend. What a fevered misconception beats within your brain. The thought of someone actually scrapping a historic steam locomotive in the modern age...it makes me laugh. The historical societies of America are far more powerful than those of you who work as scrappers. They can even halt the demolition of a building when a person already owns it, in many areas. History holds far more sway in this nation than your ilk do, and it shall always be so.

  • @rangerready23 When parts & subassemblies are removed & sold for cash, it is a very difficult article to restore & preserve. There are many desperate people around who need cash to support their themselves & families. These parts can sold for COLD, HARD CASH with , (here is the best part), NO QUESTIONS ASKED! Bells, whistles, gauges, controls, blow off valves & many other goodies make an excelent revenue source for CASH!

  • @Cockroach2008 LOL, this is getting entertaining. He isn't even paying attention to our responses anymore, he's just parroting the same drivel. As a friend of mine who's into memes likes to say, Epic Fail. Steam lives, my friend. You can't kill it, no matter how powerful you think your industry is. So go on living your fantasy. The rest of us will enjoy watching the steamers. ;)

  • @rangerready23, Yeah i know, I get bored sometimes HAHAHA!!!

  • @Cockroach2008 My heart and prayers go out to those with money problems, I was very close to losing everything myself. But you don't need to make comments like you do because I'm sure you realize that these videos are aimed at steam lovers not steam scrappers. Maybe I wouldn't say how much cooking you over a light cude no.5 fire (in 844's case)would make so many people in the steam world happy. Of course are coal fired fans might be a bit dissapointed HAHA KEEP YOUR F*&KIN COMMENTS TO URSELF PLZ

  • @jay600katana I am happy you did not loose everything!

I am just doing as YouTube encourages, "Post Comment". It does not say, "Post Comments everyone will be happy to read".

I don't know who the videos are aimed out. I thought they were aimed at scrapyard operators who are looking for old tired equipment which can be hauled in, cut apart & sold for their material value.

Or the parts can be acquired & sold with NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

Mean time, I will continue to "Post Comment". Thank You!

  • I am sorry to tell you, not everyone lives in the present reality of not having an alternative to gasoline or in this case Diesel. You might have an opinion but you have to back it up with money. Money Talks and Their are people out their willing to help fund the restoration of an old machine like the Challenger steam locomotive. If you are one of the share holders in Union Pacific and Yeah, the prospect of your opinion of scrapping this machines would be closer to reality.

  • Those of you who are arguing with the aptly-named Cockroach are just giving him what he wants. Stop, and he will.

I don't see UP abandoning the steam program anytime soon. It's a huge public relations tool for them. As for expenses, they often run the steam engines with freight when they're being sent to special events, and on those runs, they perform like three diesels. There's a vid of #3975 pulling an 8000 ton train that would have taken three or four diesels.

  • Whoops, I meant #3985. Ah well. Anyway, when fuel prices are high enough, the steam engines are actually MORE cost-efficient than the diesels are, because they can pull much heavier loads than a single diesel can. But again, their greatest use is as a public relations tool for the company. The fact that UP sends them to so many events illustrates that they are AWARE of this fact.

  • Why do all these people hate 844? She's the 2nd best right after 4449.

  • @Weiberts Woah just wait a minute there. The best operating is ATSF 3415, and the best ever is ATSF 1880.

  • @atsf3415dbr You're right and you're wrong. I take back 844 being the best. Southern 630 is the true winner here!

  • Ban the cockroach!

  • It sounds alive. Like some kind of rumbling beast. Awesome.

  • WOW! I can see that that steam engine was on the childrens TV programe shining time station. How cool is that!

  • You can't win this! STEAM WILL NEVER DIE!!!!

  • Yeah yeah, you keep thinking that. With our recession, I wouldn't be surprised if they brought MORE steamers back into work!

You can bash it all you want, but it will NEVER be scrapped.

Besides, DIESEL fuel doesn't have a pulse either! Did you think about that?

  • Comment removed

  • @MthRailFanatic Thank you for good wishes! I sincerely appreciate it!

Steam is nothing but vaporized water. No life, no pulse & no good for locomotive power any longer!

Now, it is time to scrap, cut apart & melt the machines that use it!

Junk all the remaining steam locomotives! Cut them apart & melt them down!

  • @Cockroach2008 Ok Yes Steam Is Outdated But Remeber This Is What They Started With In America It Was Steam. I Know With Diesels Its Better. But There Still Are Plenty Of Steam Engines Opreating. But Yes It's Getting Much Harder To Keep These Beautes Running.

  • @MthRailFanatic Remembering what steam locomotion did for this country is one thing. It is documented, photographed & filmed all it needs to be. Preserving steam locomotives is not necessary, nor does it make economic sense. It is just not practical, a waste of time & resources. Time to move on!

As we come across more steam locomotive parts which are in the scrap pile for melting, maintenance is only getting more difficult for these piles of junk.

    Nothing beautiful about them!

  • @Cockroach2008 Ok Yes WhenThe Diesels Took Over Many Steamers Where Scraped But Remeber Many Diesels Have Sofured The Same Fate As Steam Engines Being Scraped And Melted Down.

  • @MthRailFanatic Everything is going to come to the end of their service lives & end up as recycled materials. Steam & diesel locomotives. That doesn't break my heart!

I just want to see all the remaining steam locomotives scrapped & melted. That thought just warms the very depths of my heart!

  • @MthRailFanatic Don't mess with cockroach2008, he's just a "bully".

  • @atsf3415dbr O Know I Shouldn't But We've Already Started And I Do Know He's A A**HOLE Why Can't He Be Mature And Keep His Thoughts To Himself.

  • IGNORANT IDIOT

  • Quit being so literal all the time. We know it's dead, But a beautiful peace of work for it's time too.

  • Just shut up alright. The UP will continue their steam operation. When it get's scrapped, oh well. But I don't need you smart ass attitude on the subject.

  • If it gets scraped OH FUCKING WELL! Not my problem. But you don't need to be an asshole about it either, by the way I don't cry over pieces of metal. You might cry over rainbows but I don't.

  • Don't worry pal!

    This junker will be scrapped.

    OH WELL!

  • Good, Just because your butthurt you don't need to let everyone else know.

  • My butt did not hurt at all!

But you seem to know so much, why don't you tell me about it!

Junk the steam locomotive & it's tender!

  • LOL when it's in perfect running condition, you don't scrap it. When it's not, THEN you scrap it. But seeing as how this thing still runs, you don't do anything.

  • Tell that to Union Pacific who completely refurbished their number 3985 Challenger locomotive. They nearly rebuilt the whole thing. You figure if you need rarer and more expensive part for an engine over 100 feet long that you could do the same for a smaller one (unless of course it's like from the 1800s.)

  • I love people who don't care about pieces of history. You realize that right? People like this stuff. And being the most powerful type of train engine (steam), I don't think it's a very good idea to scrap them so soon.

  • I don't care what the people think about this junker! They want it, let them pay all expenses! People who like this old junk cover all the expenses.

I think it is a great idea to scrap it tomorrow! This old clunker is just junk iron! It is a rattletrap of tin & garbage. It should have been junked 65 years ago. It is just a matter of time before it is wrecked & junked.

In my scrap yard, we would cut it apart & send the pieces to the foundry for melt! Employment!

    Junk all the steam locomotives!

  • @Cockroach2008

This old junk is more powerful than a diesel locomotive, doesn't burn costly foreign oil, is a lot quieter (which trust me if you've ever lived by the railroad tracks would be a God send). Also, sense steam locomotives burn solid fuel, they are easier on the atmosphere. A steam locomotive is easier and cheaper to maintain than a diesel because unlike a diesel locomotive, they don't have computerized parts.

  • @Cockroach2008

That will get stuck in a museum after it is retired.

  • @Jemalacane Perhaps it can be wrecked first!

What a scene! Be sure to get some video & post the wrecking action.

I will get videos of the scrapping activity!

  • Actually, you will get videos of you killing yourself. 844 is the gratest northern in the world and you just say that it's terrible. Something is wrong with you.

  • How about we see the rest of the diesels being junked. Steam locomotives have feelings unlike diesels. I hope you walk on the middle of some train tracks and 844 runs you over.

  • @Cockroach2008

hiya fello, this is illegal, and the UP would sue you and have your ass aressted.....

so you'd be homeless scrapper dude...lol

    no offence....

the head of the UP loves steam too much for you to even get the lovely whistle of the old machine....

  • Ok, 3 things, i want to tell you ya fucker.

U will have to give up on your steam train junking campaign cuz it will not happen anymore.

I would never give you a kind thought.

Lastly 844 told me that she will fuk you up.

  • I think you stopped taking your medication. Fuking douche!

  • Thank you for your concern for my well being. I have just checked again to be sure but I have no medications to take. I am healthy with no disabilities. I am still able to operate a cutting torch, plasma cutter or a gas powered water cooled diamond blade cut off saw in the use of scrapping steam locomotives.

I am able to assist in the scrapping, junking, cutting apart & sending any steam locomotive in parts to a foundry for melting.

Junk the remaining steam locomotives, tenders & cabooses!

  • Fuk you Cockroach2008

  • Thank you for the very flattering compliment.

I am delighted that you have joined us in our campaign to junk, scrap, cut apart & melt the remaining steam locomotives.

I would like to remind you that if you can obtain the whistle, bell, pressure gauges, water sight glass, headlight, marker lights, number board, over pressure pop off valves, hoses or other parts, you can sell them in places with NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

It is fun to just graffiti paint this relic of pot metal! Graffiti looks good!

  • @Cockroach2008 bet you can't scarp the steam locomotive in cos! becuz its mine!

  • Then it should be graffiti painted.

    But it will be scrapped!

  • @Cockroach2008 Im gladd you don't care about what people think of you, i do commend you for that, but steam scrapping is out dude, no one does anymore. We put a hard fight, even more so you can scrap alday we just rebuild from old ones or new ones. Both ways the cycle will never end. Its like we are trying to go back to the 30's.

  • Scrapping steam locomotives is coming in vogue. An increasing number of people are upside down on their finances, ability to support their families & mortgages. The need for quick cash is more severe.

They can obtain cash for the sale steam locomotive parts with NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

Whistles, bells, gauges sets, boiler water sight glasses, headlights, marker lights, number boards, hoses, boiler over pressure pop off valves & many other parts become a cash source.

    Junk the steam locomotives!

  • @Cockroach2008 You hate steam locomotives, do you?

  • @09JDCTrainMan I don't hate them! They had their day, now they are wasted foolery. It is time to "recycle" the materials they are made of!

Junk, scrap, cut apart & melt all the remaining steam locomotives!

  • What is with you and your shit opinions? Just wondering why you have to shit on things other people enjoy?

  • YouTube encourages everyone, "Post Comment". I post. You may indicate your opinion with a thumbs up / down indication.

YouTube does not say, "Post a Comment everyone will enjoy & love".

I post how I feel about the steam locomotives & what we are looking for; the design for scrapping these relics of junk iron with the fewest possible cuts.

I am looking for where the fewest cuts can be made with a gas powered, diamond blade cut off saw, plasma cutters & oxygen-acetylene torches!

    Junk them all!

  • 500 ton paper weight.

  • I agree.

  • I miss traveling on the train from Houston to Uvalde, and back again. The passenger service grew worse, and worse. I doubt it still exists. I still dream of the click-clack, as the miles passed by. Those were the days.

The Sunset Limited was, in its day, a very elegant train.

  • This has to be my favourite sound

  • It seems to be the practice to open the cylinder cocks on most preserved steam locos to guard against unnecessary pressure on the cylinder heads, when starting. Hence the steam being blown from the front of the engine upon departure.

  • Unnecessary pressure is not the reason at all, rather it is to expel any condensation that may have formed while the engine is sitting at a stop. Water does not compress.

  • Thats true, if a locomotive is started with condensed water still in the cylinders, you then run the risk of blowing out a cylinder, which would be very bad indeed!!

  • All steam engines open the cylinder cocks when starting to expell all water that's collected in the cylinders.

    -Dan

  • Is that Jamie Kennedy holding the little boy? LOL!!!!

  • these amazing machines held off the deisel revolution for some time

  • What powerful puffs she makes at 00:30! <3

  • that's a chalenger

  • srry i forgot it's a 4-6-4

  • nope, it's a 4-8-4

  • that's what i ment a fef-3 which is 4-8-4 seris 3

  • Lol! 844 got tired of that guy trying to beat the train, so she blew her steam to slow him down!

  • WOW!

  • rofl that that guy trying to follow the locomotive, looks like the engineer saw him and opened up the cylinders lol

  • He probably did that to shoo him away. Seeing how there's no fence to keep people from getting crushed by it.

Or maybe it was a, "Don't touch my black beauty!" XD

  • Nice! I love watching the UP 844.

  • I live in Uvalde!!!!!

  • That is a monster!

  • True American Iron!

  • that wistle sounds soo kick8ss lol!

  • AWESOME!

Someday im going to get out to Kansas and Nebraska and see 844 for myself.

  • Absolutely stunning. Someday I'll get out to see them in person.

  • My great grandfather was a steam engine conductor. I love trains! I went on a train trip from Indiana to Oklahoma with my grandparents in '68. It had cool sleeper cars, a cafe car and a lovely dining car with a glass roof.It was the Super Chief made by Pullman in Michigan City.

  • mexico no tiene de estas locomotoras por que nunca cuidamos nada la mayoria de estas maquinas fueron chatarreadas y estan en algunos monumentos
