Think of an orange, with the orange being the center of the planet, the peel being the crust & the tectonic plates sitting on top of the peel. The peel is adhered to the orange & does not move around. The theory is that powerful enough earth quakes could shake the crust loose and molten spots underneath would also contribute to movement and the crust just breaks loose and floats around until it decides to stop and settle down, adhering to new spots.

I'm going to go with about 500 feet above sea level, as my city is around 350, and other cities upstream from me are shown. Don't they teach geology anymore? Polar wondering and magnetic pole shifts have happened hundreds of times in the history of the earth. It means the magnetic fields orientation shifts, not the crust. The only time a large crustal displacement happened, it took over a million years to play out, not days, weeks...etc. Stop playing video games and start to read books!

Basically the theory is that the plates of the earth lie on a crust below, which could break loose and flow different directions. So that for example, it could slip and Canada would be in the same place that the North Pole used to be and the North Pole area has now slipped into a different spot.

Think of an orange, with the orange being the center of the planet, the peel being the crust & the tectonic plates sitting on top of the peel. The peel is adhered to the orange & does not move around. The theory is that powerful enough earth quakes could shake the crust loose and molten spots underneath would also contribute to movement and the crust just breaks loose and floats around until it decides to stop and settle down, adhering to new spots.

This is just a map of the world divided into above and below a certain elevation. I'm going to go with about 500 feet above sea level, as my city is around 350, and other cities upstream from me are shown. I'm not even going to consider doing the math, but 500 extra feet of water worldwide sounds like a lot, and it's got to come from somewhere. I guess it's the ice caps, but what exactly makes them melt? If they melt, it won't be overnight. If it is, we're dead from the heat before floods!
