i wanted to play this piece for my recital but my teacher told i had to play this piece faster. i told her that the particular version is slow but she insisted that i have to play it fast because it's a Pachelbel's piece. do you think it's suited for this piece to be played faster?
@taksa123456 I haven't found tempo instructions in the urtext. Some organ sheets show 56 bpm, the Galloway arrangement shows 60. I start at a much lower speed of about 46 because this lets it sound less bright and i like this. But while playing i increase the speed up to about 76 bpm in the part where both hands are continuously playing 16th. Maybe it's not supposed to be played like that, but i like it much more this way.
@taksa123456 Btw. i think it's the only canon pachelbel composed so it's hard to say it has to be played faster because it is a Pachelbel. Since this is his only canon it's hard to compare with his other pieces.
Even if the piece is supposed to be played faster this is a different version of the song, a more contemporary maybe and it says it should be played at 60. and i think it's preferable to play it slower, you have to show some feeling, to understand the music which cannot be done while pplaying it too fast. anyway i'll just choose another piece for my recital i guess :D
@taksa123456 Thats what i mean. It makes no big sense to play it faster if you don't feel it this way and since the difference is not that big it should be no problem. It's not like it's marked as presto and you want to play adagio ;)
I've been playing piano for 2-3 years TECHNICALLY but ive only had about a years worth of lessons. I'm teaching this piece to myself and I started sometime in November :X I'm not really constant with the learning..but to get to the point...this video has tought me how to play it and i play with it :) THANKK YOUU
Finally! Someone who plays the seventh page! lol. I'm working on this exact same arrangement, and I didn't have a reference for how it's supposed to sound. So, thank you and great job =)
Your vid is my favorite of all the canon vids here. Most of the people playing Galloway's arrangement of Canon in D kinda has a mechanical feel to them.. I love yours because it has depth/dynamics/emotion that is lacking from most of the people who played it.
I see both videos, this has better tecnique and tempo than the fist one, but the fist one have a more clean sound, more body in every key. I believe this is because you playit with a real piano, and this one it is electronic. Maybe you can feel how each note is more clear before, electronics pianos made every note mix with the other :S but as I say first, this one is really good!!!
