Utang na loob, pwede na, crab mentality etc are the reasons why the Filipino *PEOPLE* (politicians, teachers, nurses, students, farmers, fishermen, the unemployed.. EVERYONE) are either suffering unneccesarily, or turning a blind eye to unnecessary suffering!
The Filipino must tell him/herself:
Just because my relatives/peers say something is 'true', it DOESN'T mean it is.. TELL THEM IT ISN'T!
Just because I'm poor, it DOESN'T mean I'm doomed to remain poor... FIND ANY MEANS TO PROGRESS!...
Stand up for ONESELF, and AIM for better in one's OWN life! That is how the citizens of successful countries got to where they were from once being poor countries, they HELPED THEMSELVES and DIDN'T rely on peers, relatives or children to help them!
Family values are one thing, but the need for individual progress is the key to being able to mobilize oneself!
The condition of the Filipino IS NOT unique.. The Filipino is NOT suffering MORE than other people in many other countries.. We pride ourselves on intellect and ingenuity, but when it comes to solving immediate problems in our own community, the cultural curses of pag-something-isms are stopping us! Why?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Proud?...proud of what? This is a country that's been kissing the ass of the white man for 300 years and has a shitload of mail order brides. Yah THAT'S something to be proud of! *roll eyes*
there is no hope for the philippines unless the people can swallow the fact that you are a conquered people! the philippines has never done ANYTHING that stuck out to the rest of the world. the only thing filipinos are good at is copying others... you know why? because you are a DEFEATED PEOPLE that have been taught to hate yourselves and your own culture! wake up!!!
there is no filipino culture. the philippines is an artificial nation constructed by the colonial conquerers. there is nothing that unites the philippines as a nation. even your languages are different. admit it. the philippines is a nation that was never meant to be a nation. the people can't even govern themselves right. democracy is a western concept. it was never even heard of until the americans shoved it down your throats.
Before US became US, they too was defeated, conquered and colonized by British.
But before Brits conquers the now US, the latter has their own society and form of governance is each places.
My country too was like that before the Spanish, Americans and Japanese came.
India too has many language. China have had before before their emperors systematically killed their own people in their territories to become one: Chinese.
my dad is half french and australian while my mom is a filipina with chinese and spansih blood i do have dual citizenship,so?does that mean im an artificial human?or maybe im not filipino?nor am i australian, just because im mixed blood..i think and act pinoy but i look caucasian..hmm.such a weird statement and logic right? haha,ur funny really..a melting pot of culture produces another culture..ur logic is really lame..try harder monkeysian...
stop denying what filipinos have become as a nation. its a hard thing to swallow, but it's the truth. you are a conquered people with a bastardized culture and a government that follows a western concept (democracy) that CLEARLY does not work for the people. its time to take a stand and change it. but the first step is to realize the problem and accept it as reality.
ur a dumbass. is it so difficult to read carefully and understand something that is said? I said the philippines is an artificially made country. Is it a nation that was born naturally through unification of the people BY the people? NO. who unified the islands into one nation? the spanish. We are clearly not a spanish nation since we are now independent, but who are we now as a people? filipino? what is a filipino? think about it before you reply with a lame comment.
Which countries are you speaking of? Cambodia and the french? Cambodia was already a nation before, same with Malaysia, and even Mexico once had an identity of their own before the spanish came. This is the problem with filipinos... you try to tell them their problems and they point out the flaws of other countries. just because the world has other basketcases doesnt deny the fact that the philippines is a basketcase itself
But they also are DEFEATED and CONQUERED people even as you claimed their nation exist long before they were colonized.
So, it's not only Filipinos, right?
I'm not pointing flaws of other countries, in fact this slide points to the flaws of the habits, if "culture" may not be the proper term, of Filipinos themselves.
But it doesn't mean I or We hated ourselves already. It is about how this habit made or became wrong.
my point is, although we can't change the past, we can learn from it and move forward. Colonial mentality plagues the filipino mind so much they have forgotten where they came from and who they really are. Their identity has become diluted with bastardized (so called filipinized) versions of american and spanish culture.
i understand that not all filipinos may carry a colonial mentality and im proud of them for that. but im not only singling filipinos out. like i said before, just because other nations have the same problems is no excuse to dismiss our own as "ok." the philippines is full of so much resources, is in such a strategic area of the globe, and once had a vibrant and unique culture. why dont we uncover these treasures and make the nation what it once was?
You also seems to agree indeed we have our own "vibrant and unique culture" as what I have been trying to argue with you.
Your idea to uncover these treasure is good though, but it's not the purpose of this video posts.
It's the government work I supposed. But once again, it doesn't mean that we Filipinos, pinoys, pinays or whatever term is appropriate are not proud of our own.
filipinos need to be proud of their OWN culture and not just take and keep what the foreign oppressors shoved down their throats. Hell, even the name Philippines shouldn't exist anymore. You are no longer a colony of spain nor are you even considered part of the hispanic race.
i just took into example ur logic to give a clearer picture but till now its too incomprehensible still haha..and its really funny by the way..but non sense i should say..
maybe once in a while check inquirer on business news just recently the World Bank projected that the Philippine domestic economy would expand by only 5.6 percent this year and 6.0 percent in 2008.
Philippine GDP growth jumped to 7.3 percent in the first half of 2007, the highest among the middle-income countries of Southeast Asia, and the country's best performance in 20 years.
the worst thing is to have this kind of people..being idealistic but so few with actions.this vid wouldnt really help..it would just boil down into others misperception of pinoys,,and dont blame anyone if you are prejudiced because you just did ur country a shame..criticism always help..but be sure its constructive lad..its a pity how naive people can be,and i pity you for that..
So sad, you don't even know me. What is shameful is when we don't acknowledge that this worst thing exist. It's in your blood's veins, that if you're a Filipino.
im half ausie and pinoy, but it seems we nevr see more of the gud stuff of being a pinoy but always hylyt the flaws, even if you search other vids of worst countries culture none to a so rare would apear, every culture has its flaws but it seems we are too proud of it to even expose it on others,my dad always love our pinoy culture thinking he's already a perfect gentleman bcoz of being french and british, but you know whats the problem with them?
its the loose family ties unlike what pinoy family has,but have you ever seen any video to tell dt?or the japanese who has gender discrimination and works 10 hours a day exhausting their female countreparts and not having enough time for their family,or the indonesians who kill christians in their state and ruin churches because of their islam?this are already their culture and this are the flaws but it seems that we aim to be the so perfect culture of the world,by doing this
When hiring of teachers is based on whom you know not what you know; to avail burial assistance depends on your connections; when you're falsely charges by a police who is your enemy's friends, amongst others, perhaps you would agree that debt by gratitude or utang na loob is one of the worst culture Filipino has.
Of course, I'm proud of my roots and never ashamed of being a Filipino.
But when this psyche embeds the very fabric destroying the real values of Filipino I stand against it.
ynottalk i understand ur sentiments but pls.this is not a constructive way of putting things the ideal way,we are giving so much focus on our shortcomings and less of what we should be proud of,i know we wanted change but this takes a lot of time to be achieve, ive been observing our people, remember the glorieta?so iresponsble with them stating that it have been a terrorist bombing and mind you this are all just presumption,
minsan kc ang problema nghhnap tyo ng sobrang problema tpus mgrreklamo tyo,set for exmple ang mga bgay n dpt bnbgyan ng hylts e yung mga taong puro reklamo sa govrnment ntin pero hndi nman ngbbyad ng taxes, see?ang mhhrap stin puro reklamo, but do you think they have d ryts to do so?not to be unfair or anythin but jst being realistc, they dont pay taxes and puro anak ng anak lng,do they give the govrnmnt anythin?but jst damn burdens..bbgyan mo pbhay, ibbenta bhay..
its not about the culture but indvidual difernces..i agree that debt of gratitude is not a gud thing, but look on the bryter syd thats not even worst compare to others, blood money?..such a stupid culture ryt?but do u hear anythin that condemn it?none..dude our culture is still ok..compare to them,we,the people are the one's who are not using it the ryt way,its not the culture..but the people itself..
you talk about the flaws of other countries just to cover up the shame that lies in your own country. this is a hard thing to swallow but you filipinos need to swallow it.... your country is a shithole with people that don't know how to properly govern themselves. not just the government, but the ordinary citizens. filipinos would rather take free handouts than to find out constructive ways to make their lives better
yeah gud point but this people who are less fortunate seems still delusional about things, they have food to eat if not why would they survive?what im trying to say is empty cans always make the most noises, its just a matter of priorities and this people seem not to understand it,instead na mgtayo ng sari sari issugal, ibibili ng mggrang damit, look now its not about the culture but individual mindset,
the current government for me is doing a gud job,and have you even consider this people ever being contented for once?i guess not, cila nlang yung plgi mong mkkta ngrraly in almost every administration, the government needed support, yun lang,
hope ur not filipino cuz it's ashame if we ourselves dont appreciate what we hv... cuz i strongly believe all culturez got flaws... ya dont hv to brag 'em... take care.

I never hated my own culture, myself and my people. I never feel shame to be a Filipino..
If being defeating is winning, then I rather be defeated and conquered.
The so called "conqueror" have had the tremendous and enormous crimes ever committed in our history of humanity, from slavery to large scale murders.
And I can't be proud of it. My country had been defeated, but never were we guilty of crime against humanity.
Like the Spanish did in Mayan society, and Japanese did during WWII.

Well, countries colonized by British, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese and others, are artificial nations too in that case.
We're talking over a quarter of the earth you have labeled as "DEFEATED", "CONQUERED".
So, where does this real nation exists then?
YnotTalk 4 years ago

It's also not correct to stereotype the Filipinos; and that they are plague with Colonial mentality.
Though you have a point but not all Filipinos are similar to what to think.
Also, colonial mentality, once again, is not exclusive only to Filipinos too. Other people who had colonial history are like that.
So why single us out?
YnotTalk 4 years ago
i understand that not all filipinos may carry a colonial mentality and im proud of them for that. but im not only singling filipinos out. like i said before, just because other nations have the same problems is no excuse to dismiss our own as "ok." the philippines is full of so much resources, is in such a strategic area of the globe, and once had a vibrant and unique culture. why dont we uncover these treasures and make the nation what it once was?

It's the government work I supposed. But once again, it doesn't mean that we Filipinos, pinoys, pinays or whatever term is appropriate are not proud of our own.

filipinos need to be proud of their OWN culture and not just take and keep what the foreign oppressors shoved down their throats. Hell, even the name Philippines shouldn't exist anymore. You are no longer a colony of spain nor are you even considered part of the hispanic race.

maybe once in a while check inquirer on business news just recently the World Bank projected that the Philippine domestic economy would expand by only 5.6 percent this year and 6.0 percent in 2008.

It's in your blood's veins, that if you're a Filipino.

im half ausie and pinoy, but it seems we nevr see more of the gud stuff of being a pinoy but always hylyt the flaws, even if you search other vids of worst countries culture none to a so rare would apear, every culture has its flaws but it seems we are too proud of it to even expose it on others,my dad always love our pinoy culture thinking he's already a perfect gentleman bcoz of being french and british, but you know whats the problem with them?
cockygiant 4 years ago
its the loose family ties unlike what pinoy family has,but have you ever seen any video to tell dt?or the japanese who has gender discrimination and works 10 hours a day exhausting their female countreparts and not having enough time for their family,or the indonesians who kill christians in their state and ruin churches because of their islam?this are already their culture and this are the flaws but it seems that we aim to be the so perfect culture of the world,by doing this

But when this psyche embeds the very fabric destroying the real values of Filipino I stand against it.

ynottalk i understand ur sentiments but pls.this is not a constructive way of putting things the ideal way,we are giving so much focus on our shortcomings and less of what we should be proud of,i know we wanted change but this takes a lot of time to be achieve, ive been observing our people, remember the glorieta?so iresponsble with them stating that it have been a terrorist bombing and mind you this are all just presumption,

you talk about the flaws of other countries just to cover up the shame that lies in your own country. this is a hard thing to swallow but you filipinos need to swallow it.... your country is a shithole with people that don't know how to properly govern themselves. not just the government, but the ordinary citizens. filipinos would rather take free handouts than to find out constructive ways to make their lives better

Paying tax is a different issue.
Of course we can't require poor who can't even afford to buy food to eat to pay tax.
It's not about burden, it's a government obligation and responsibility.
Good for you, you can't afford to say so perhaps you have better opportunities than them.
Not all Filipinos do make complaints the way you describe it so.
Others who don't have anything to eat it don't make complaints too.
YnotTalk 4 years ago
yeah gud point but this people who are less fortunate seems still delusional about things, they have food to eat if not why would they survive?what im trying to say is empty cans always make the most noises, its just a matter of priorities and this people seem not to understand it,instead na mgtayo ng sari sari issugal, ibibili ng mggrang damit, look now its not about the culture but individual mindset,

the current government for me is doing a gud job,and have you even consider this people ever being contented for once?i guess not, cila nlang yung plgi mong mkkta ngrraly in almost every administration, the government needed support, yun lang,
cockygiant 4 years ago
You're right, those critical of the government are perhaps the same persons as they were before.
And they too had been targeted for extrajudicial killings in recent years in our country.
Do you think this is what they should deserve of doing so?
Had it not for them, and their ancestors, our society wouldn't be watchful as it is now.
We shouldn't stereotype and dislike them because few of them are good persons too.

I am a Filipino. I don't feel shame of being one.
What if feel shame, is of how this culture has made out lives worst.
