  • When God himself feels like playing the guitar, he descends on Mark Knopfler and plays us a few riffs... Mark talks through a guitar more clearly and with more emotion than we could ever hope to using words... Unreal

  • you did not desert me ...my brothers in arms

  • and that my freinds is how you play a les paul

  • In '88 he had perfectionized the solo in the end and it was even a bit better, in my opinion. Especially the chords at 6:10 and 6:37.

  • @se11001 Well.. he plays it different every time he plays it. But yes, the Mandela-version is amazing.

  • We're fools to make war

    On our brothers in arms

  • Very very beautiful song. LOVE <3 <3 <3

  • beautiful song ! I think this version here is particularly moving starting from 5:20, especially through the flute

  • Croatian Soldiers, Brothers in Arms.

  • i cant even make words to describe how awesome the ending was. the way knopfler held off that last huge chord at 7:20, then just had it explode at 7:25 was just.... phenomenal, to say the least

  • Mark Knopfler= One of the most fantastic guitar players ever!

  • EINFACH HAMMER SONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG ILOVED;-)

  • Used to be a live performance of Brothers in Arms on You Tube that started with a flute and ended same. Had a steel guitar part near the end. I think it was recorded in '84.

Absolutely the best recording / performance of this song by Dire Straits, but can find it nowhere on the net.

Anyone know where it can be found??

  • @n52nimbus Search "On the Night". :)

  • @DogSwede1 Thanks so much !!! I had the date wrong, but that was the performance I was seeking ;-)

  • Mark composed this song with his soul .... so every time we hear it we feel it with and in our hearts.

  • this version is on a par with Monserrat ..both are pure class and legendary versions :-)

  • if Jesus played guitar, he'd have Mark's tone!!!

  • i heard this played over a film of the challenger space shuttle disaster back in january of 1986 ... it's a very powerful song on its own but it was devastating combined with the images of challenger exploding in the sky, particularly the ominous opening keyboards and thunder ... a strangely suitable accompaniment to the sudden disaster ... and then the moving words ... to me there is no other guitar player who can move you with the beauty and lyricism of his playing like mark knopfler ...

  • This really is a beautiful piece of music.

  • The greatest.

  • much better than the music of today...

  • The best version i've ever heard. Good shit!

  • one of the most solid statements a song has ever made - beautiful!

  • such pity i wasnt born at the time to be there at that consert.

this is what music is. im a big fan. im just 15 years old but dire straits are one of the best bands in the history.

  • wow this brings back good memories, not like todays crap.

  • Dire Straits are one of the best bands ever!

even though mark isnt the best singer, its still great.

i dont care what others say. hip hop isnt music, this is music

  • @3ngene

    hip hop is noise.....

  • Beautifully smooth and emotional playing. Few players can achieve Knopfler's ability to truly express emotion through his instrument. That's what makes him a special artist. When you add to this effortless technique, and a crisp, clear, distinquishable tone Knopfler's genius becomes apparent.

  • Fucking Awsome Nothing LIke this Now a days this is why you cant call music nowadays music cause THIS IS MUSIC, MAKES YOU WANNA CRY nothing today can touch anyone like this

  • So jawdroppingly amazing! Oh, what wouldn't I give to have been there and to be able to see this entire, freakishly overwhelimng concert! Perfect, is the only word which captures it all. 85 was the year of Rock

  • nice

  • did he tell them all to stand up when it wasn't allowed or was that a different tour??

  • It was this one, check the Walk of life from the same concert and he says it in the beginning. :)

  • thank you!

  • Wonderful song and this Live version is excellent!

  • @kogepan1996 That was this show in '85 at Wembley.. I have been watching all of the videos I can find from this show and I thought that part was awesome.. I think he said that before they played Walk of Life

  • The best song

  • This is the original version muppet!!

  • Eh.. It's live?!

  • Nowadays no one makes musics like this ones.. :( Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler are just awesomes :D

  • it's very...very beautifull....thanks for all Dog Swede 1....thank youuuuu

  • dire straits is a totally underrated bad

  • Sorry, DogSwede, Thanks for all you do. I did not acknkowlege your contribution.

  • Good job DogSwede, Dire Straits is one of the best bands.

  • The goyim should be so lucky as to have a genius like MK. Or Bob Dylan, or Paul Simon, or Leonard Cohen to name just a few of many.

  • Just so you all know this song is about the falklands war, nothing to do with the israel/palenstine conflict. Its a tribute to our forces.

  • Knopfler is weak, along with his kind, the jews

  • What are you talking about? =P

Knopfler's dad was a Hungarian jew, and his mother was from England. That means he's not a jew. Which really doesn't matter.

  • That makes him a half jew!!

remember what Luther said "besides the devil, the jew is your most violent and stubborn enemy, remember a true jew is always a jew"

  • Yeah, agree. Knopfler seems to be really violent...

  • Cretin

  • WTF?

  • well he may be a jew .. but your a f@ckin idiot :)

  • this comment was directed at SwedishViking... person or whatever hes called .. what an arse

  • @ChapterVIII09

You are a focking chav mate

  • @SwedishWikingPower no-ones speaking to you knobhead .. learn to spell

  • I hate when big bands go political, Israel is EVIL

  • This song is not about Israel/Palestina. It's more about the guerilla wars in the early 80's, just like "Ride across the river" and "The man's too strong" from the same album.

  • Where is Nils? Can't see him nowhere!?!?

  • I edited wrong video description,, :P
