When God himself feels like playing the guitar, he descends on Mark Knopfler and plays us a few riffs... Mark talks through a guitar more clearly and with more emotion than we could ever hope to using words... Unreal
i cant even make words to describe how awesome the ending was. the way knopfler held off that last huge chord at 7:20, then just had it explode at 7:25 was just.... phenomenal, to say the least
Used to be a live performance of Brothers in Arms on You Tube that started with a flute and ended same. Had a steel guitar part near the end. I think it was recorded in '84.
Absolutely the best recording / performance of this song by Dire Straits, but can find it nowhere on the net.
i heard this played over a film of the challenger space shuttle disaster back in january of 1986 ... it's a very powerful song on its own but it was devastating combined with the images of challenger exploding in the sky, particularly the ominous opening keyboards and thunder ... a strangely suitable accompaniment to the sudden disaster ... and then the moving words ... to me there is no other guitar player who can move you with the beauty and lyricism of his playing like mark knopfler ...
Beautifully smooth and emotional playing. Few players can achieve Knopfler's ability to truly express emotion through his instrument. That's what makes him a special artist. When you add to this effortless technique, and a crisp, clear, distinquishable tone Knopfler's genius becomes apparent.
Fucking Awsome Nothing LIke this Now a days this is why you cant call music nowadays music cause THIS IS MUSIC, MAKES YOU WANNA CRY nothing today can touch anyone like this
So jawdroppingly amazing! Oh, what wouldn't I give to have been there and to be able to see this entire, freakishly overwhelimng concert! Perfect, is the only word which captures it all. 85 was the year of Rock
@kogepan1996 That was this show in '85 at Wembley.. I have been watching all of the videos I can find from this show and I thought that part was awesome.. I think he said that before they played Walk of Life
This song is not about Israel/Palestina. It's more about the guerilla wars in the early 80's, just like "Ride across the river" and "The man's too strong" from the same album.

In '88 he had perfectionized the solo in the end and it was even a bit better, in my opinion. Especially the chords at 6:10 and 6:37.

@se11001 Well.. he plays it different every time he plays it. But yes, the Mandela-version is amazing.

The goyim should be so lucky as to have a genius like MK. Or Bob Dylan, or Paul Simon, or Leonard Cohen to name just a few of many.

Just so you all know this song is about the falklands war, nothing to do with the israel/palenstine conflict. Its a tribute to our forces.

Knopfler is weak, along with his kind, the jews
SwedishWikingPower 2 years ago
What are you talking about? =P
Knopfler's dad was a Hungarian jew, and his mother was from England. That means he's not a jew. Which really doesn't matter.
DogSwede1 2 years ago
That makes him a half jew!!
remember what Luther said "besides the devil, the jew is your most violent and stubborn enemy, remember a true jew is always a jew"

Yeah, agree. Knopfler seems to be really violent...
