  • I've got about 400 finished Celts in 1/72... a mix of Revell, Airfix, ESCI, and Italeri. I did some conversions as well, like heavy chariots and cavalry. I'll take some pics one of these days and post them. Quite the project... took me a while and I imagine it took you some time as well.

  • Looking very good, you shouldn't stop, just go on, I can't wait to see it finished! :)

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 well space can be a problem, I stoped all my work waiting to rebuild top flour never mind, her we go, less space well you could do something about that by putting diorama at somebody who has more room then you grandmother or somebody at who you go and is a part of family than about new set well you don't need it you have enough figures, and about battle well you can choose what ever you want because 90 percent of people doesn't know history in details...

  • did you buy copies of some of the packs?

  • Love to see 1/72 single based. Just use some of them for the mo and build a smaller diorama possibly the romans defending a bridge from the barbarians.

  • Dude..contact a local museum. Offer to donate it to them in return for space to finish it. That way they will benefit, and you'll always be able to see it and proud its on exhibit. But do an actual battle so they would be interested in having it. I don't know where you live, but in the USA their are tons of small/big museums that would love to have it if its historically accurate and even better if it was of local historical significance. Don't give up!!

  • do a bunch of small dioramas and you can fit them together like a puzzle to make a big diorama

  • What you need to do is build several different diorama's to show different battles in different landscapes. It should also be historic and acturate.Hope this helps.

  • fiND job!

  • My mind @ 2:05:

    "*beepbeepbeep* WHAT THE FUUUUU----BOOOOOOOOM"

  • at 1:28 i just had a vision of someone walking into that table and they all fall over!

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888: carry on bro!!!!!!!!!

  • wow

  • Why not just put the figures in plastic or foam storage and use the space you already have them setup on in the video for some sort of diorama?

  • I would have to say that due to the mix and match of so many of your figures from different eras it would have to be an imaginary battle otherwise you can't be historically accurate unless you get more figures that are accurate. Also, try setting up a table or something that can hold them and you can do an early clash. Just a suggestion. If you have more questions or want more ideas, as a military historian, i would gladly help just contact me on my email at vanguard7finley@gmail.com

  • Do you prime coat your plastic figures? If so, may I ask what you use?

  • @64537333 i don´t use a primer colour for these small figures. for lager ones i use revell acrylic paint matt 43 or black paint.

  • i'm doing a diorama too :D

but the mine it's of the battle of Stalingrad.

  • good luck to you !

  • Did you have the patince to paint and make all of those????

  • For how long?

  • Love the Rome total war music

  • Excellent work, weather or not you keep it as a diorama doesn't matter, as you have 2 excellent Wargames armys painted up there. You could try making a flocked base that the figures indiviualy sit in . if you magnetise the bases with magnetic strip and use a bit of sheet diorama base can save display space by hanging up on a wall as a sort of 3D overhead view. If possibe the diorama base should be round then leave a border that coud be painted as the edge of a sheild.

  • hats off for the time...1/72 my fav always..awesome!!!!!!!!1

  • LOL ur mad.....600 to 800 single pieces....1in 72........omg u are completly mad,lol

  • @Arcusinoz you are not the first one telling me i´m mad :)

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 As a fellow model builder I meant the comment as a compliment......wtg....but your still mad as a hatter.

  • Answer for Q1: Maybe you can make a diorama from multiple smaller bases which you can put next to each other to form a large base.

Q2: You have quite the right figures for this historic battle Chalons. There Atilla the Hun was defeated by the romans and visi goths. Atilla the hun had all kind of mercinaires so some of the goths, vikings you have are ideal. (a set monguls as the themselves might be nice to add, I recommend the Zvezda ones).

  • that song is in rome total war

  • You could have a battle set near a village of some kind. Have the Romans in two groups. One is broken after heavy fighting while the other is just arriving in good order and has just entered the fight.

I've got two boxes of Zevda [sp?] vikings and they are nice but it never occurred to me to use them as part of the barbarian invasions. Really great looking minis. Too bad you aren't a wargamer as you have at least two really nice armies.

  • If you want more room but have tooo many models ( if thats the case ) then just sell some of your least favourites on ebay? just a possibility

  • Hey Hamilkar, i may have found a way to help you here, but its your choice really :L

Well ive been watchig a few videos lately about dioramas and i came across one from a guy called "epicfantasy" , and as you said, you need more room to put the diorama , well , why not try what he did and make a diorama , that you can hang on your wall, like a picture frame :) , it would take some time but they look really good when finished , but its up to you! :-)

  • muy bueno enorabuena

  • its amazing its huge keep it up looks great

  • I say both...Imaginary and historyically acurate are both great.

  • What did you paint them with?

  • @VaiderxENVYz i used acrylic paints from revell.

  • The positioning of the soldiers are amazing, a real sense of action and movement, well done, a great effort. Buy a bigger house?

  • hello,

I have build up many diormas.A diorama should ALWAYS be historic correct, never be fantasy. It should never be with a river plus bridge. It is fantasyless. Better not build in all figures only because they are there. The space. Take a wooden frame. Look for an oil painting you want to copy for the diorama. Underneath the frame comes an ironing board, so you can lean the diorama against a wall when not used. buildingtime for that max. 2 days. Greetings from Germany derkleinepuc

  • try using the rest of your room think upwards, use i bolts, chain or rope and a pulley. When not in use or display pull it up and away

  • hey man, very nice i like italeri figures the most.I think you shouldnt ask us what you should do,you should do what do you want but id like an imagianry battle because you can be more creative and your diorama will be unique in the world because no one can image the same thing as you.im currently planned a diorama wich takes palce in www2(russians attack germans at moscow)and i cant wait to get the matterial next month...but with not be as big as yours mine wil have just 150figures,2At guns, tank

  • Hello,

I own a hobby shop in High River, Alberta, Canada called Monster Hobbies. I am building a WW1 diorama for the local library here. Have you considered puting your army in your local library or a museam? Maybe you could talk to someone there about it. Best of luck and please see my videos sometime.

Your models are awesome! As for a game, try Warhammer Ancient Battles. It's a fun game that uses ancient armies like the one you have built.

  • ROME TOTAL WAR FTW

  • i think for a setup you could just have two armies facing each other and in front of them the two main generals and their bodyguards negotiating. On the other hand that would mean the figures in active poses would be a bit useless

  • Yes I think woods & maybe a lake or bridge or waterfall or a fort or rock formation or some kind of cool terrain feature would make it more awesome! Do you have a garage, or basment, or anything? Or if you can't do it in one of those places maybe you could move stuff from your room, to those places to make room. (You said you "ran out of room" So you used to have enough space)

    Scott

  • I think you should do an imaginary battle because:

1, most real battles involve thousands and thousands of men.

And 2, you can let your imagination go to town enstead of following a recorded historicle situation just do somthing that COULd have happend. But maybe only involved a few hundred men or whatever you have, and is there for not recorded in the anals of history! Like maybe a Roman Cohort being Ambushed or somthing! Hope you find space, good luck!

    Scott

  • Really cool!!!!!

  • i think it would be cool if you did a barbarian attack on a roman fortress during the fall of rome

  • very nice, dont stop you almost finish your work!

  • I think that it should be a historic battle becauz most of the diorama u built is historical......like "operation Barbarossa"etc

  • where do u get the grass and what protective spray do u use? to keep paint from flaking

  • keep goin..you have done so much already..dont stop..

  • I'm working on a 1/35 scale world war three models this is going take a long time to finish but I will.

  • Rome Total War music ftw!

  • try to make dio of that battle from Gladiator

  • 1/72 is the best

  • You must be very, very dedicated to your figure painting. I quite enjoy painting the odd pilot figure but I'll never ever do that many!

  • i used too have big ideas and stop halfway through due to always forgeting space issues, i built the white cliffs of dover for a battle of britain diorama, bloody massive got scrapped in the end, now i just to vignettes with one figure standing alone, with some nice scenery. good luck if you continue, i can paint 3-5 1:72 then get bored and in the bin they go.

  • nice diorama

  • Music from ROME:Total War hehehehe

  • it would be a shame if you just give up on the project. I suggest a historic battle, with accurate position of scenery and terrain. that would be a totally fulfilling achievement!! :) if that's too overwhelming, there's nothing bad with a fictitious battle, and would be almost just as good.

    also,

when it come to hobbies, I prefer painting and assembly and sculpting (scratchbuilding) myself. but you ought to try wargaming sometime!

be sure to post the finished diorama! Good luck and God bless.

  • @icexiangwu I would suggest the opposite to be truly historical hes going to have to cut so many of the troops hes put the time and effort into so i'd say go for the fantasy option then you can utilize them all. Defo should get some hills and a river in it though some forest area would be nice. Currently im working on a celt vs roman battle it includes the following for some ideas. 1 corner of the board has a small celt village on a hill. Theres a few more rolling hills through out the board

  • theres a river and a larger hill in the centre of the board with a flat top (cant remember the name of this from from geography class) on it rests a shrine surround by trees then on the more open section of the board i have a forest that the celts are using as cover to disguise theyre numbers against the legion advancing. Oh and if you are building a battle scene a really nice kit i seen was of a roman tetsuo??? u know theyre shield wall is about £20 cant remember manufactuer but its on amazon

  • @kreeperrock thank you for your ideas, it sounds great and doable :)

  • @kreeperrock its called a testudo and the figure i was talking about is made by warlordgames its a really nice piece if your doing 1/72 scale stuff involving romans. Although for historical accuracy it'll be out of place with the romans your currently using as the armour in the model i speak of is near the end of the roman period but from a fantasy perspective u really need one in this battle

  • Thank you for the video. The time taken is an inspiration to all of us beginners.

  • this impresses me simply by the quantity of models!!

hope i will se the terrain done, take you time doing a nice and dinamic diorama , not only a flat piece of grass

also i would do a ablack/brown wass on the silver armour especially on the mail

  • im working on a 1/72 diorama of the battle of salamanca, part of the peninsular war, it'll include british peninsular soldiers, spanish soldiers, portugese soldiers, spanish guerillas and of course the french, overall it's got about 750 figurines... I'm halfway through building the diorama base...

  • @MilitaryAircraft101 it also includes british and french cavalry..

  • @MilitaryAircraft101 wow sounds prettty awesome! keep going and i hope you have enough motivation :) maybe you can show it to me?

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 yeah, mabye, but it is a monster thing, and like you, motivation is lacking at the moment. and money..

  • Hey great job on the whole diorama. If you really love the hobbie, do not give up! I need vids to watch when im bored!

  • I'm painting 1/72 Greek miniatures at this moment. I understand your frustration. I'm looking for friends who are into this on Youtube as well. Currently I have similar problems like you regarding space. I'm planning to create small dioramas where I can assemble and disassemble to store them. Don't give up please. I plan to post my 1/72 scale models sometime and need your support as well.:)-sharif

  • @2paintminiatures thank you for your support :) i´m happy that you watch my videos and you are trying to help me. especially those big historic battle dioramas need alot of space...i got italeri´s roman infantry and gothian cavalry yesterday to complete the collection of figures i want to use for this diorama. i hope i can proceed with the project in the next time!

i would like to see your work, is it possible? thanks for your sub btw :)

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 - No problem.I'm planning too but it will take a while to finish painting these figures. It's great that you are painting the late rome period. I've bought some early and imperial rome army from Zvezda and Hat. But I have to finish my Macedonian/Greek army first. Will let you know soon.

  • jsus ! what a work to paint them ! awesome work...

  • You have done a fantastic job painting the figures. Do not give up! I would love to see your finished diorama. Maybe you could build the diorama on a flat board or in a large picture frame so you could hang it on a wall? It would reduce your need for space in your room & you would also get an "aerial" view of the battle..

Anyway, great work & keep on doing what you're doing, never say die! ;)

  • @nicktalbot666 thank you for your support :) its a great idea to hang it like a picture on a wall, would be an awesome view! i will keep this in mind, thank you very much

  • The last thing you want to do is throw all your hard work away on a gladiator scene you should have them in a battle line ready to meet. The field should be a flat land or have a hill on one side roman line's where made up of many differnt troops auxilary troops in front heavy infantry behind them than arcers and your general and staff spear men on the right and left flanks and you heavy and light calvary on one flank. In the end the choice is yours if you want to know more battle formations m me

  • That is a very impressive from what I see you have completed so far. I have started and not finished a few aircraft and then I will see a tv show or movie that inspires me to build again. Here is my suggestion that you can rule out just for fun place one of your tiger tanks on one side and all of the figures running like hell on the other... Have a great week

  • How about this? You could make it sort of a temporary diorama... you can either cut the board into four or more smaller sections, or not, depending on how better you can store it. Flock the board with something durable, yet attractive, like sand, painted green with a light drybrush of buff or yellow for highlighting. For the figures, might I suggest basing them four or so for foot or two or three on horseback? That way, setting up the figures would be easier, take less time...

  • @justplainerica and if you change your mind, and decide you want to get into miniature wargaming, you would have your figures already based. Terrain features... water features, like rivers are always interesting, but take more work than a low hill or two. Hills are attractive as sites for artillery, or last stands of units separated from the main army, or for generals and their retinues... if you want to try the battle in Gladiator, you'll likely need stands of trees...

  • @justplainerica the sight of a barbarian horde emerging from a forest is dramatic indeed! Hmmm... another figure type to consider for your Roman army might be the HaT Roman medium cavalry... they can kind of fill in as early Byzantine cataphracts... just a thought. I hope it helps a little at least

  • @justplainerica thank you for your detailed comment :) your suggestions are good, especially the combination of hills and a forest is nice! the following scenario came to my mind: i could depict a skirmish on the rhine- or danube-border between a roman rapid deployment force mixed with legionaries and limitanei fighting a looting barbarian horde. it could be just a small fight which happened all the time in this period. i will keep this in mind and maybe i can find some space to put it.

  • wow

  • I guess its just like any other art, sometimes we get artist's block and can't see the wood for the trees. I agree with atomicdog though, I like the idea of the Gladiator battle scene. Good luck with whatever you decide.

  • Take your time and it will be finished.. I certainly don't envy you painting all those figures.. :) They are very nicely done.. :)

  • @BasicModelling thanks :) yes, there is a lot of endurance needed to modify and paint such a number of figures...

  • Well.... I would definitely make the war scene of the movie, Gladiator. You have the Roman troops and the Germania troops. So, make a diorama of the first battle scene of the movie. Just my opinion. Also, do not abandon a project that your passionate about. It will happen. Take it easy and Keep Building!

  • @atomicdog32 thank you, i will think about this idea, sounds satisfying :)
