  • We need to demand our public officials meet their promises to fund the Millenium Development Goals. I created a website to help people do this easily.

I welcome all feedback to help promote this cause even more! Thank you

  • Free Trade!!! It would end all poverty!!!

  • And yet it's in the news that Angelina and Brad have just bought a $40 million house in Italy after a $60 million house in New York, among others--- such extravagance somehow doesn't fit with the image in this video and makes one wonder where their priorities really are.

  • It's crazy that the boy at the start lives in poverty and he looks healthier than she does...

  • AFRICA NEEDS DRASTIC ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL REFORM. ANGELINA JOLIE, STING, NONE OF THESE PEOPLE ARE HELPING TO CHANGE AFRICA. THEY FEED A FRACTION OF THE PERCENT OF THE POPULATION AND GIVE THEM COMPUTERS....AFRICA NEEDS TO REFORM. SENDING MONEY FEEDS PEOPLE FOR A DAY, BUT UNTIL THEY CAN FEED THEMSELVES, WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEND THEM FUNDS.

  • It goes both ways when you travel and witness the glaring and hard reality of life. Africa is just but a big portion of a generation being wasted because of health problem and poverty. And sad to say, it is not an isolated case. Though, I would like to think I have big hopes for my country.

  • yeah she's amazing isn't she??? Pitying those poor people...by the way, how much did her mansion cost?

  • @champlainabc good point

  • Angelina Jolie is my hero forever and forever!

  • the poverty is pretty easy to solve, just ask all the rich people, like celebrities to donate as much money that they can miss. Angelina jolie herself donated 3 million dollar, im sure there are alot of people who can do that. So I hope all the rich people will do this. I wish I was rich so I could help them. I would do it immediately!

  • hi angy i need to spik to you pravetly email me thanks

  • thank god there are people like her..

  • angelina really has a good heart.

  • If everybody stops being that egoistic and only buys fair traded products we could defenitely help those people!!! Of course this would mean, that we would have to spend a lot more money on stuff. But we would be saving Lifes this way.

But if we keep acting the way we used to do poverty is getting even worse i think

  • Jeffrey Sachs is actually a bit of a moron. He was the advisor for the revitalisation of the east European nations after communism collapsed (he also advised on the matters of Bolivia), and to say the results were mixed would be an understatement.

  • Hey Angelina, how do you eradicate poverty when your "leading expert in poverty" says that the reason a country is poor is because its in high altitude? Malaria nets don't do anything, its a business. Mosquitoes attack most during dawn and twilight when people are working in the fields. This clip is ridiculous and masks the true reasons for poverty.

  • bom trabalho que ela faz aos pobres da africa

  • Jolie quote: "I travelled to Africa with Dr Jeffery Sachs, the world's leading expert on extreme poverty." Well, he should know he's created enough of it in Russia, Bolivia and elsewhere with his so called "shock therapy." This has caused untold suffering, and the fact that the likes of Jolie endorse him (and the CFR) is a demonstration of how uninformed she is. Her heart may be in the right place but she's playing the part of a useful idiot associating herself with him.

  • I am getting nauseated with Hollywood stars controlling the discussion of foreign aid (whether Jolie or Bono). Please give credibility to people who have the expertise, not stars who use it as a way to improve their ratings.

  • @Galanin22 but the people with expertise are usually or never smoking hot babes. Whats wrong with Angelina Jolie using her spare time to promote her ideas? The only problem I have with hollywood stars is when they complain to normal wage earners for not buying expensive electic cars and stuff.

  • jeffrey sachs theories have been desastrous in Poland, Russia and Bolivia. those countries have seen an exponential increaes in equalities and the degradation of the poorests' condition of living.

PLEASE JEFFREY SACHS LIVE AFRICA ALONE. IT IS BECAUSE OF YOU THAT COUNTRIES LIKE GHANA IMPLEMENTED PROGRAMMES OF DEVELOPMENT THAT WORSENNED THEIR CONDITION

But this man is too arrogant to admit that he has failed and he will keep failing and people will keep dying of poverty BECAUSE OF HIM

  • @guiademsandrine No Poland, Russia and Bolivia failed due to your incompetence, your own corruption, your own political elites arrogance, your continual restriction to establish the political and economic institutions needed for capitalism. YOU AND YOUR COUNTRYMEN FAILED! Dont blame Jeffrey Sachs for trying to help you.

  • @killerbee2k Who the fuck are YOU to apostrophe me on youtube? You are not an accountance of mine so shut the fuck up and dont even talk to me like that.

  • Angelina is beautiful inside and out....

  • Thinking that poor countries need the help of foreign governments to get out of poverty is gross ignorance in basic economics. Angelina Jolie needs to give her money to a private charity instead of these bureaucratic hacks!

  • @truevoice08

    YOU ARE SO RIGHT !!!

even the united nations as a whole are a failure

im reading Easterly' s the burden of the white man and after that will start naomi klein's schock therapy.... that book really opened my eyes

African nations have failed where most asian nations have succeeded because there were no jeffrey sachs in their business.... those kinds of guys from harvard , totally far away from the reality of those populations who think they have an answer for everthing

  • Shock Therapy is good at documenting the facts but I don't like the analysis though. She misrepresents capitalism for fascism. Its so anti-free market(when there is no free market) that it looks like another socialist propaganda tool.

  • There is widespread poverty and corruption in the US yet the taxpayers money still go to Africa where corrupt African politicians will use money for their own purposes instead of helping their people. Its sick! Since when did nations have the obligation to help other nations and when did a nation ever need another nation to get itself out of poverty. Foreign Aid is just a scam created to fool and pacify the masses.

  • beginning in the 1700's, Europe used natural and human rescources to get themselves out of poverty. Furthermore, during the cold war the CIA and Russia, used thier rescources to eliminate democratically elected leaders and install thier leaders. (ie. mombutu, mugabe, the shah, amongst others) many of those leaders that were installed were given billions in aid and they only used it for themselves. Its irrational to think that these countries became poor without outside influences.

  • @lecroix3

YOU ARE SO RIGHT AS WELL

I was just watching , Adam Curtis' The trap, here on youtube and on the last episode , you see how the theories of a young jeffrey sachs , who was a consultant of boris eltsine at the time, drove millions of russians to an extreme poverty and i just cant believe that this guy still have credibility for some

he is going to do the same with africa and when he will fail he will blame africans

PLEASE JEFFREY SACHS LEAVE AFRICA ALONE

  • @truevoice08 The poverty in the United States cannot be solved through government intervention in form of redistributive policies, the only result from that is perpetual poverty. Take my own Country Norway for example, our government decided to end poverty by expanding social wellfare, the result was more poverty. Why? Because availability increases demand. If you want to solve US poverty you need less restriction and regulation of the market, you want to abolish most licenses for example.

  • Hey, do you know any online sources where I can find sort of documentation about how bad all these European Nanny States are? It's annoying that socialists always like to point out to countries like Norway as irrefutable evidence that socialism 'works' even though praxeology proves it will collapse in the long run. I think you'd be able to provide this info since you have first hand experience with a Nanny State.

  • @truevoice08 It is kind of sad that some cant make the basic difference between SOCAILISM and SOCIAL-DEMOCRATY

  • Tell that to the socialists.

  • She is the most beautiful person i have ever seen....inside and out.....thank god there are still people like her.....

  • Comment removed

  • she is such a beautifull person not only on the outside but inside too

    god bless her

  • Sachs clearly shows, in all five parts of these videos, how easily we could end poverty across the world. All these people need is a quick jumpstart for them to provide for them selves. Poverty is the root of disease, and many other problems that affect poverty strucken areas in the world.

    Thank you

  • I cannot criticize someone who takes action to help others. Angelina Jolie's generosity is very touching.

  • angelina jolie e magnifica nnsi ci puo dire nnt anche perche e sempre messa a donare soldi

  • wiping out poverty should not be a goal

  • @davidaud777

    But it is.

  • See what happens when the economy tanks, no one believe we can wipe extreme poverty in 20 years now.

  • Maybe it will force us (in the West) to re-think our exploitative relationship with our brothers and sisters in other countries, and find a way that will support a decent life for everyone? From greed to sharing, from competition to co-operation, from conflict to peace? Would we choose it if given the chance?

  • @gaartsen Are you kidding me? When has putting faith in human beings with power ever yielded results?

  • @gaartsen Ideals are very important but the reality is that because our core of civilization is based on competition what you are suggesting will not happen, what you asking is for people to take away their comfortable lives and give to the poor. History shows that this will not happen but of course im not saying that we should give up, because people who quit can never win but those who keep trying may win eventually.

  • @danwild6 hey, seeing your comment a couple of years later, and seeing how much the recession did, it probably still can. it's put 40 mil below 1.25 a day compared to the trajectory without it, which is terrible, but the mdg of halving extreme poverty by 1990-2015 is actually going to be exceeded! so we do still have reason to be impatient optimists :)

  • it's nice showing alternatives for african people to avoid certain illnesses, grow their own food, etc, but the main issue is that poor people exist because other people are too rich and greedy, nothing else. angelina, well, it's good that she tries to raise awareness, but she's also part of the system that keeps this unbalanced and unfair system going. the richer, the more overpaid, the guiltier of letting others die hungry, killed, tortured, ill. the poor should be idolized for their patience.

  • Well, she ain't only raising awareness, she donates like one third of her money to these people too.

  • Well...she could donate a ton more. Her income alone could build a well in every village in Africa.

  • I guess you could donate a lot more as well! It's easy to see other people's mistakes. I'm trying to do my part...

  • She is one of the reasons why their is poverty.

Her consumption of resources, equals that of the several million living in poverty.

  • damn it, this looks like a great documentary but i just cant help thinking that she is sooo beautiful when they get her talking close up....

she is such a strong and intelligent woman, using her fame for goodwill

  • god bless Angelina Jolie, shakira and the other people who is helping all this poor people...

  • NOW let's compare to Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel vison of Africa

"Africa proper, as far as History goes back, has remained-for all purposes of connection with the rest of the World-SHUT UP(i.e. trapped); it is the Gold-land compressed within itself-the land of childhood, which lying beyond the day of history, is enveloped in the dark mantle of Night. Its ISOLATED character originates, not merely in its TROPICAL (i.e. climate) nature, but essentially in its GEOGRAPHICAL condition.

  • Sachs is telling a different story. In his version, "Africa, through no fault of its own, is TRAPPED. Held back by GEOGRAPHICAL impediments like climate, disease and ISOLATION,... it CANNOT lift itself out of poverty. "

  • She's such a strong woman. Its annoying when everyone just looks at her as this pretty piece of meat. Geez theres more to people then that! Her spirit is stronger then just her damn looks...

  • aw so true!! i admire her a lot

  • ME only me= pervasive while crying of sadness for been a powerless part on this.

ME trying hard to make a difference: despair to aknowledge that while Social Scientists, Political Scientists and Economist Experts are living in their own vainity building rivalry against each others competence or even among themselves... That will remain the cruel picture before our eyes for a long time to come.

PLEASE Chomsky, Krugman, Sachs, Obama, etc, just try it! May God Bless You and all the needy ppl

  • I really felt empathy to those poor people. Guys! I experience what they have gone through. Though it's not as complicated as their situation but it's really hard!!! coz I also came from the poor family. I wanna cry while watching this vedio..

  • good work. we need to start building bridges . not burning them..like the last 8 years of GWB and the likes of him have done. now its hogh time for a new outlook and change !

  • Jeffrey Sachs is such a great guy

  • "My concern is not that there are too many sweatshops, but that there are too few." Jeffrey Sachs is a libertarian nutjob who thinks that free markets will create a utopia.

  • It is easy to label people as "nutjobs" on the internet, but free markets will better the world. The benefits of trade are always good. I dont take Einstein, to realize this.

  • it dont*

  • Einstein the socialist . . . I think he would disagree. And no, free markets will not necessarily make the world better.

  • Who cares? She has helped more people than you ever will.

  • I'm proud of Angie's role in this video. Her role helps the cause gets more coverage.

  • this is too sad

  • hello there!

    thanks for the video!

i'm a social science major and i'm very much aware of this problems.. Miss Angie is doing good.. she's a very nice person and she's my idol when it comes to this...

if you can send me this video please do so..

can you send this in my account on youtube??

    thanks! :)

  • I hate when people use derogatory language to describe someone they know nothing about. Especially when that person does so much good. She is helping make people aware. You should give her praise, not bash her for it.

  • mange et songe ou reve sans cauchemar de fin de la faim

  • happy birthday angie!

  • mensonge

  • The UN is the hope for the future of this world. Conspiracy theories are the result of fear, which has wreaked enough havoc already. If only the UN would get the chance to really represent the nations of the world, without its agenda being hijacked by the US, many of our problems would have been solved 20 odd years ago.

  • I don't know that qvqvqv23 is a conspiracy theorist, but every organization has its weaknesses - the UN is no exception. However, the UN is generally a force for good in the world, and Jeffrey Sachs knows how to tackle poverty.

  • @gaartsen they are called conspiracy theories to take away their credibility, the UN is not the future of the world, world super powers only have one interest, profit. The third world debt should be dropped to even start helping. Does it make sense to owe $2.30 for every dollar $1 Africa recieves in aid?

  • Right. And your contribution to the fight against hunger and poverty is doing what exactly?

  • [Sorry, clicked the wrong button. Feel free to post your comment again, though]

Good to know you're contributing. And no, I'm not at all into celebs. I just think this program will help raise people's awareness about the real problems of the world, and our personal responsibility to do something about it. Besides, this program is not about RED, so maybe you could save your comments for videos that that are?

  • you really believe anyone wants pr that much? why does she care about your opinion of her? boycott all of her movies if you want. she has enough money to both live comfortably and help better the human race, and after all that she'll still have some left over to bitch slap your ignorant self with.

  • As no-one can solve this problem individually, I rather see people working on awareness-raising -- regardless of their personal fortune -- than scolding others just because they can't solve it individually...

  • I love this woman especially seeing where she came from!

  • You praise Angelina Jolie for caring about what goes on in countries in poverty, but millions of people care. The person who deserves your praise is Jeffrey Sachs, he is finding out what is wrong in these countries and is trying to help them solve their economic problems.

  • jeffrey sachs is an economics "superstar". This is more like a PR activity, but his true intentions are to put the world in debt... in fact this whole situation of poverty is in part due to the imf

  • who says something is wrong with "these" countries and not our countries! The problem has also to do with the fact sovreign countries do not see these problems as high alert or important problems or else they would have been solved long ago!

  • yah just like in Bolivia and Russia...grow up

  • I just finished a great book, "Out of Poverty" by Paul Polak. There is a pretty good 8 minute video listed under his name, on things we can ALL do to help.

  • i have no reason to complain about certain things

when i see things like this, thanks for showing people what actually goes on in the world angie, much respect

  • This video make me think about my life... Im brazilian, forgive my bad english. I have to do something to make the world better, maybe i cant go to africa, but i can help people around me and I can talk about and write about and try to influence people to help others in need.

  • Us as Americans we really need to open our eyes and stopping complaining about our problems we have shelters, we have food and the possibility to get a good paying job even though some choose that getting a job is to much work and than complain about how hard it is to make money.

  • How does awareness stop poverty? This type of awareness makes Angelina Jolie a saint. Is she a doctor that can heal? Or, a gardener that can help crops grow? No. She is a celebrity, an image maker. The poor don't want the crumbs that fall off the rich man's table. They want the means to independence. Read my article, 'A Famous Reason for Being', go to my channel for website link.

  • awareness is the road to start doing something...you don't have to go acroos the world to realize there are certain things to be done. i don't think the fact that she is a celebrity has anything to do with this she is a human like the rest of us...we all have needs...we all need education, food, medicine...it's amazing that she's doing something, that she cares, that's what matters.

  • Jeffrey and Angelina are inspirational people!!

  • It's interesting that these comments talk so much about how inspirational Angelina Jolie is... Jeffrey Sachs is my hero, he's amazing.

  • it is so evident that we americans many times under estimate how much we have!!!this documentary is truly motivating.we as a wealthier society have to make a commitment to make this world a better place[not even trying to sound cliche]It is possible to make this tremendous positive change in the world, and we as "the wealthiest" nation have to contribute to noble causes such as this!

  • I'm reading her book about her travels to Afrika, Camboja, and others.

I can stop thinking about those people, she make me feel like i'm a privilige person.

She a very good person, more than a lot of people think.

    This video made me cry.

Thank you for posting, and i'm sorry for my bad english. I'm from Portugal.

Thank you Angelina for everything that you've been doing.

  • For meaningful opportunities in volunteer work and philantrophy, please contact the CENTER FOR COMMUNITY WORK & PEOPLE'S DEVELOPMENT in Manila, Philippines, a non profit organization that works to alleviate poverty and improve livelihood in many villages with nutrition, health, education and water projects.

  • watching this gave me goose pimples...

she's an AMAZING woman- all my RESPECT for her!

you go girl-the world could need more people like you...

  • I wish she had an official website soley for bringing awareness to the needs of the world. Not a website for Hollywood goings on but for the things that really matter. Does she have one?

  • no she doesnt

  • Where are the paparazzi !!! I wish they would follow her to the ends of the world so that people can see the need instead of them following her everywhere else reporting that she took her child to school today. She is totally inspirationsal.

  • We all have some kindness inside us, I think Angelina remember us of that.

  • it;s giving me chills.

  • She is wonderful and has become a remarkable human being, a force for good in the world. She is inspiring for the work she does. She is not only saying things , she is doing things and everbody ought to do the same to change lives .

  • Yes I agree with that, she's my inspiration

  • itz so weird dat we tink we have all the problems in the world, and itz actually them who have the problems, yet they still smile

  • stormira.. wow. im waitin for it 2 upload so i was readin the coments and your is very understandin. i feel like that nearly all the time. and its good 2 relize im not the only 1. i have stil joined charities but if only ppl thought bwt it we could change the whole world. that sounds amzin. and i 3wish that 1 day humans wil have the guts 2 admit that we need 2 do somthin 2 help thosewho need it. and kwikly.

[som words couldnt be arsed 2 write out propa so sory bwt that,]

    :D

    xxxx

  • thanks.

It is always good to know that there are others who think the same as you. We always need reassurance on that.

No problem about the writing either! XD

  • No mater how many times a read, listen and watch about these things, I still get chills.

To think, that if we all contributed, if we all knew, if we all acted, this could be stopped. It seems so basic.

But then, remembering its harder than it seems, that you are only one person, one individual, in a world of billions, makes you seem small and incapable again.

  • being kind to others is a good attitude

  • Angelina Jolie is sexi!!

  • That`s incredible! I thins she is a good person, doing a important work like this...

  • Thank for posting this....

I think she has developed into a spiritually beautiful human being... as well as being very fit at the same time!!! :P

  • It's great you've put this clip up, for those who haven't got a chance to see it otherwise. This is definately something people should be told about.

  • Is this the one that was on MTV? I've been trying to find it on DVD or anything but I couldn't find any!! Do you have the whole series? Please upload!!!!

  • Yup, this is the one from MTV. I'm sure you've found the other two clips of this episode, but that's the only one I have.

  • A must-see video (all parts).
