  • Dude, this is the truck I've been dreaming to own all my life a 1973-1979 era C30 Chevy Dually with crew cab, though if it were me, I'd jam a 572 big block under the hood and a have custom built 4x4 drive train underneath it . Then I'd put a brush bar with 2 LED off road lights, a custom steel back bar with 5 smiley face off road lights, a big ass receding trailer ball hitch, and fifth wheel plate attachment option on the bead. Maybe lift the truck about 4 inches or so.

  • I recommend magnafllows to make that 7.4 sound sweet!

  • @mjfpercussion Well the truck is kinda gone now it was a sweet truck except the the 7 mpg

  • @Hotrodx199

should have bought an oxygen meter, u can buy them fairly cheaply to tell whether its rich or lean.

I can tell this is lean at idle by ear though.

generally when carbs wear(the old carb) they suck in air past the shaft seals and mixture goes lean; or did the old carb have a kind of CV flap and needle to meter fuel?

  • Shouldn't have swapped out a q-jet for that carter afb.

  • quadrajets are good carbs when they are rebuild and dailed in right, they could out preform any edelbrock

  • @TEEEJ69 agreed

  • You're amazed that it took a quarter tank of gas to go 10 or 15 miles in this truck? It has little to do with the carb. Some maybe, but not a lot. I have an 87 TBI 454 dually, it gets about the same milage you describe. My truck runs great too.

  • is that even a 454 cuz aint 454's motor's ornge not black like a 305,350

  • Paint does wear, plus grease and oil doesn't help make the orange stick out much. But yes your correct, but even 305's and 350 as far as i know were orange too, but if you ordered a crate 350,305 they were black.

  • Not sure about other years, but from the early to late 80's GM painted the 454 and 350 truck engines black if they were in a HD emission class truck. The GM Corporate Blue paint would be found on the light duty truck engines. The 454 in my '84 dually still has the factory black paint.

  • Sounds like it's got a pretty bad leak from the exhaust manifold.

  • I wouldn't mind having one of those but a 4X4, and with a cummins in it.

  • I'd be satisfied even if it was a 2wd dually but a single cab with a cummins in it.

  • That's an awesome big ole pick-up!
