I like books where protagonists have different lives than mine. Usually. Not that I have a bad life... because most of the protagonists in the books I read have morbidly sucky lives. Yeah... Shiver is amazing! I'm so glad you're reading it and I love your videos, Kaleb. :)
Kaleb, I look forward to your funny random vids everyday and you never have them anymore! I mean this Shiverguy thing is cool, but do you think you could make some more random please. Love you!
I guess i like both, like HP he's got a kind of normal crappy life at home but then he's got this whole magical life aswell which i thinks completely unique, i guess i like the normalish (?) ones aswell cause you can relate to the characters :)
I don't care because i'll pretend that i'm in the book either way and think about the stuff the characters do and what i would do differently if i was them or in the story
I pefer protangonist that have lives that are vastly different than mine, because I like to put myself in the story and see how I would feel or what I would do in that situation. :) <3 ya Kaleb!
i bought this book just because you were reading it, lol
I like both kinds for different reasons. It's nice to read about someone similar because then you have something in common, but I like reading about different lives too because they're interesting.
Very different! Why read about something you already know about... Thought, it's okay if it starts out pretty normal, but it has to have some weird and abnormal stuff to make it interesting, otherwise you can just read any chicklit out there..!
i dont like people in books that have no problems and are like "WHOOP MY LIFE IS PERFECT!!!" then lets say oh Aliens come and start abducting people and then the person(s) are like kick ass(prin) that just makes me made.
Considering that my life is generally dull, I like my protagonists to start out like me (or something I can relate to) but then go off on a fantastical journey which would be entirely plausible to happen to me. That whole 'someone just like me' scenario works well because if you can't relate it's harder to get into the story and the characters seem shallow.
i just finished Shiver, it was amazing (: but i feel bad for Sam and his fear of bath tubs...i also find it funny that there are two wolves in the pack named Sam and Paul
I pretty much can only read books that the people in it are like me. If not, i change them around and pretend that they are similar to me. Like if the character is younger than me, i just pretend they are my age or whatever. I know it's weird. Oh well.
i like reading books that have similar characters to me. it just makes the whole "experience" seem more real even though ur dealing with wolves which obviously arent - but its books like these which i usually want to finish in no more than 2 sittings: hunger games and hush, hush are goood -shiver omg is purely sweet
i prefer books that are kinda both. like me and not like me. i finished Shiver about a week ago. i want to read it again, but i can't because i borrowed it from a friend. Shiver was a perfect book for me, i love wolves. i love romance, i literally couldn't put the book down. so yeah. i actually like both kinds of books.
I like reading books about people who are different than me. If it's more similar to me, then I pretty much already know what's going on. And where's the fun in that? My life is boring. I don't want to read a boring book.
And I like to read stuff about castles and knights and maidens who shoot bows and arrows. Definitely not like me :P Variety is good. :)
I love how you stand in front of the green screen but don't usually use it. :) As much as relating to a character is a good thing, I have a mildly boring life and much prefer it if the protagonist has something interesting going on. That's why I'm reading the book, right? :)
For me to want to read a book it has to different from my life. A book as an escape to some other little world so why would I want the other little world to be like my world? A lot of comments say they want to read a book that's believable. Believable is boring, psychotic is fun!
I like someone who's lives are adventerous, but in a completely beleivable way.
. . .I just realized i'm a die-hard harry potter fan, saying i like beleivable action. Well, has anyone every found proof there aren't wizards? If they have, said wizard would probably mess with thier memory...
I went off on a little side rant there...
But i do like action books, where the character is far out, but still beleiveable.
Kaleb Love your Vlogs they are the best and are a riot! Lets see some times Iike reading about characters who are similar to my life but I also like characters who are not. It makes it more fun.
I like it when the main character has a different life to me, because then it's really like I'm escaping from my world and entering theres. But when I write, the protagonist always ends up having a family like mine and that's sort of unintentional.
Reading a story that is completely different than myself is a refreshing & unexpected thrill, but having characters & stories similar as my own lets me relate to the books in a more personal matter.
i just got shiver from my library today (actually they didnt have it, so they got it from a different library) i think when i start out reading a book i automatically assume the character is the same as me... same age, lives in a small town but once i read a little more i like it when they have a few similarities but have some amazing qualities or something
the whole point of reading a book for me is to live as someone else for a while. also dark divine is a good werewolf book the authors last name is desspian i dont remember her first name and im to lazy to go up stairs
When I read a book, I think I really like the person's life to be similar to mine because it's easier to relate to them at least. Like if I read a book about a girl who lives in New York and goes shopping at all these expensive stores I think gosh, I really don't like this book because I have no relation whatsoever to the character. but at the same time the person's life has to be a little more adventurous than mine so that it's not just completely boring me to death lol
sometimes i like protaganists who have similar lives to mine so i can relate better, but most of the time i like when they have a similar personality to mine but an exciting life.
So i don't get mad when they do something i wouldn't do, but get to do stuff i can't.. wow if you understand this comment you're awesome XD
I love this book! It seems more realistic if you think about it, even though there are shape shifting people who turn into wolves!! Regardless, I like reading it whenever i get the chance. It's a small step from the Twilight hype :) Not that I dislike Twilight :P
books help me forget about my problems and sometimes its good to se that people may have the same problems i do, and othertimes is better to read situations that could not happen to me :)
I prefer the ones that are a bit more adventurous. It's just more fun to experience, but there are some that I enjoy the ones that are similar.
Btw, I love the ending comment, "NO WONDER SHE TALKS TO WOLVES!" that just cracked me up and made my day. Wait to get more into it. It will get weirder, but oh so good.
i like books that are totally different to my life so i can just imagine what it would be like to live in that situation :) more imagination is involved in reading something different, as if you read something that is so similar to your life its not that hard to imagine! if you get me.. lol xD
I like protagonists whose lives are very different than mine because it gives me something new to read. I mean, I live my life. Reading the same thing in my spare tyme, though my life isn't boring, would be just plain BORING. What's the point in reading in my spare tyme if I JUST lived it? Seriously. What do you think, Kaleb?
Well, they have to be like able. For example, I absolutely hate Nora from the book Hush, Hush, because she's just such a jerk! But they have to be different and have something exciting happen to them to draw me into them.
I prefer protagonists who are similar to me in terms of character or common interest but lead much more exiting lives then I do. That way I can put myself into the shoes of the character and vicariously have spectacular adventures.
As long as the protagonist is a good person and not a brat, I'm fine with him or her. Harry Potter and Bella Swan are not like me, but they are good people. Grace seems like a peach but she is not like me either. If it is like Heathcliff from Wuthering heights or Scarlett O'Hara who are just bratty, then I can't get into it as much.
I'd personally prefer a character whose personality and life is very similar to mine, except that character goes through something incredible that I could see happening to myself.
(I was going to make a video response, but oh well.) I love fantasy books. I just love to escape into another world and forget. I recently finished Percy Jackson and The Olympian series. (which was amazing, next to Bran Hambric. ^_^)
It was really the only remedy to my stress, to read about wolves or vampires or demigods.. I always need a book within arms reach. :)
I like both before I only liked books with characters completely different from me but recently I have gotten into books with more realistic characters
Very different. I like books for people always are in danger with chaos and fights and drama and anything that makes a life bad. It makes me feel like mine isn't so horrible.
I'm a cheerleader and an aspiring author and, though people like me typically barely read more than the monthly issue of cosmo, I like books. A lot. And I like them as inventive as possible. Mythical lands, invented names, make believe beings, interesting abilities...
Bought your book even before I knew you were a youtuber. Loved it. Cover's sweet. I want to move to Dunce! I want to be friends with Bran!!
Youre a funny guy. Thanks for brightening my inbox with this :D
I prefer ones in which the main character starts out with something similar to my boring life and then they suddenly get swept into a crazy adventure, nothing like they'd ever known before. I guess that was part of the draw of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.
same for me. I could relate to bella in the begining of twilight, an average girl, and then WAM! complete change. But because I felt like her in the beginning, I could see that happening to me.
hmm not excatcly correct....we (in Germany) say it more like sshhhhhteve but I don't know how I can explain how to pronounce 'Vater' correctly....it means stepfather though....maybe you should just say stepfather ;P
Hmm, tricky question. I like both. When the main protagonist's life is similar, I can identify with them and perhaps learn something from them. I find a friend who is going through the same as me. On the flip side, it's always good to read something SO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT that it takes you out of your situation for a while. SO my answer is both. That is all.
Hmmm both I think! I mean, they have to be similar to me in some ways, but if the protagonist's life was exactly like mine, it would get a little boring!!
I like both. I like main characters with lives very similar to mine because then I feel like I can relate to the character. I also like different main characters because then I feel like I'm experiencing something that will never actually happen to me. :)
I like books where the main character has a completely different life from mine. Because honestly, my life isn't that interesting. Escaping Reality Via Books For The Win!!!! ;)
xD I Like Both, Honestly, Because I like a wide range of novels. xD Yes, I Like to be able to relate to the characters, but Sometimes, its fun to get away from things that you encounter in everyday life ^_^
i like books who lives are the same as ours because then u cna relate to the characters but i also like a twist in them like a vampire or werewolf becasue then it makes the books more exciting!!
but i am adventurous . . .

But because I felt like her in the beginning, I could see that happening to me.

oh rot... I enjoy books that have lives that are very different from mine :)

hmm not excatcly correct....we (in Germany) say it more like sshhhhhteve but I don't know how I can explain how to pronounce 'Vater' correctly....it means stepfather though....maybe you should just say stepfather ;P

i like both kinds of books, but ones that are adventerous lives i think are better if the charater is like me inside. love your vids :D
