Very different! Why read about something you already know about... Thought, it's okay if it starts out pretty normal, but it has to have some weird and abnormal stuff to make it interesting, otherwise you can just read any chicklit out there..!

Considering that my life is generally dull, I like my protagonists to start out like me (or something I can relate to) but then go off on a fantastical journey which would be entirely plausible to happen to me. That whole 'someone just like me' scenario works well because if you can't relate it's harder to get into the story and the characters seem shallow.

I pretty much can only read books that the people in it are like me. If not, i change them around and pretend that they are similar to me. Like if the character is younger than me, i just pretend they are my age or whatever. I know it's weird. Oh well.

As long as the protagonist is a good person and not a brat, I'm fine with him or her. Harry Potter and Bella Swan are not like me, but they are good people. Grace seems like a peach but she is not like me either. If it is like Heathcliff from Wuthering heights or Scarlett O'Hara who are just bratty, then I can't get into it as much.

I prefer ones in which the main character starts out with something similar to my boring life and then they suddenly get swept into a crazy adventure, nothing like they'd ever known before. I guess that was part of the draw of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.

Hmm, tricky question. I like both. When the main protagonist's life is similar, I can identify with them and perhaps learn something from them. I find a friend who is going through the same as me. On the flip side, it's always good to read something SO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT that it takes you out of your situation for a while. SO my answer is both. That is all.
