there is a better way to do this, if you put your paddle in the water vertically and rotate until at 45 degrees (or whatever feels comfortable), then sharply turn it again to 45 degrees the other way then keep doing this, if you practice your technique you can move faster than this without the risk of capsizing

i tilt my boat a little, it gets the keel out of the water.
Peter Casson could spend an hour showing us how to move a kayak sideways, this is a simple way to di it in a minute or so.

Perhaps saying another way of doing this would be more accurate.
The sculling draw is more elegant but may prove illusive to a beginner.
You are right though it can move on to sculling braces.
The proper name for that draw stroke here is "The Draw To The Hip Stroke" that keeps you going sideways in stead of angling off.
