Perhaps individual manipulators wants this as an excuse, but as a society the problem is that they DO think we are waging a cultural or even spiritual war. Our war is for security, nothing else. The military should not employ someone that might suggest otherwise.
I don't think it's fair to say we are submitting to them in any way by staying impartial on spiritual matters. I don't see them counting it as a win.

Again, I fail to see how letters and numbers on a scope placed there by the manufacturer suggest that we are NOT impartial on spiritual matters. It comes down to what I said about whom you employ. From what I have heard, there should be more outrage about private contractors too, but my knowledge there is limited.
A side note; It's strange to me what is called "liberal" by Americans. I guess America's political parties are a bit too polarized. I don't see what's liberal about being sensitive to a foreign culture. It is militarily appropriate, unless the particular tactic you are deploying specifies otherwise.

The military is not a Christian army, they are the US army, a SECULAR army, and for good reason. Stunts like this can only endanger troops lives, as well as sabotage their mission on the whole.

Because individuals are religious, obviously. The military providing chaplins is part of the overall supportive social program within the military, not a basis on which the military functions, nor do chaplins go to war for their religion.
Btw, chaplins today host a variety of religious needs, not just any one. They also handle counseling and family issues non-religious related.

You're trying to compare an apple to an orange. A religious individual, even a chaplin, is not the equivilant of the entire MILITARY demonstrating religious behavior or support. A chaplin supports the individual soldier religiously, he doesn't take that religion into the military mission.

The US military is HIGHLY against religious prolytiing by its servicemen and as a whole, for any religion and when working with any other religion. That the current conflict is with fanatical Islam is hardly the point.
