  • i don't speak english very well, so i don't underst what means the expression "for that pie-in-the-sky".

Can someones explain to me what it means?

  • @ramoneaa i think its just an american phrase for heaven cos pie is nice and heaven is too (supossedly if your religious) and heaven is in the sky tho im quite possibly wrong lol

  • @Balmer25 - close, it was written as a parody of the Salvation Army who would pray for your soul but not feed or help you in the early 1900's....

"You will eat, bye and bye,

    In that glorious land above the sky;

Work and pray, live on hay,

You'll get pie in the sky when you die.

    The starvation army they play,

They sing and they clap and they pray

'Till they get all your coin on the drum

Then they'll tell you when you're on the bum:"

Look up Joe Hill - Preacher and the Slave for it all

  • the first to starve the first to die, and yes the first to get laid off because you can always pack up and go to mexico, thanks GM.

  • you know what man, im working class as fuck but you know who caused GM to lay off workers?! America! thats right, we did it. If people would take some fuckin pride in their country and buy American insted of damned Jap econoboxes then they wouldnt be forced to make such decisions. you can give them shit all you want but its not like they are laying people off cause they want to, they are doing what they have to to get by just like the rest of us.

  • No not us, it's globalization and the trade policies that do it. If we wouldn't allow the WTO, IMF, NAFTA, etc to exist then it wouldn't happen.

Nationalism is uncivilized and the enemy. The people have no country.

  • agreed.

  • I agree man I hate how I factories in products are all made over seas.

  • ihatecivics7,

The American car industry is in trouble because they don't make very good cars, as simple as that.

No-one else buys American cars because they're badly made from cheap materials, thirsty and inefficient, have huge engines that produce pitifully low BHP for their size, handle badly and can't go round corners.

If you can buy a car that does double the mpg, has an engine half the size, is more reliable, cheaper and better to drive, you're going to aren't you?

  • Yea and they havent been making good cars because they have been trying to copy the crap that asia has been putting out since the 80's. if American car companies would just stick to what they do best they would be fine. I will say thats starting to turn around, they are starting to build real american cars again... and the base 2010 camaro makes 304 hp with a 3.6l V6 and gets 29 mpg while doing it. I'd rather put my hard earned money towards that than any of the jap crap your talking about.

  • The Ford GT is a great-looking car as well, but mass-production car companies have to compete in the small car and middle-range markets, the fact is that American companies have never ben good at making fuel-efficient small and medium cars, that's why VW, BMW, Toyota etc do well over there..

The world's diminishing oil means that will be the most important factor in the future, and unless GM etc start producing better, more efficient cars in that market they will always struggle.

  • thats right around the same price range and mpg as say a scion tc that makes 180hp with a 2.2L I4 and still only gets 28 mpg... hmmm but american cars a thirsty? anyways, theres more to a car than MPG and what car and driver say about them. I'd take me a 54 belair with a lumpy cammed small block and a five speed in it that gets 15 mpg over anything japan has ever put out. (oh and if you want to see pitifully low BHP take a look at the new ZR1)

  • The thing you have to ask yourself is "If American cars were that good in the past, why don't any other countries buy them?'

I live in the UK, and the only American cars I ever see over here are 50s/60s classic cars, owned and run by real enthusiasts, and I saw a Hummer once.

I have never seen a new American-made car in the UK or mainland Europe either, most car companies are giant, multi-national concerns now, you can't succeed if you can only sell to one country.

  • By the way, I'm working class, socialist and used to be a Union official, so my sympathies are with working people in whatever country.

  • Nice vid, for a great song
