I remember when this commercial was actually on TV. Not long afterward I played my cousin's copy of Metroid II and later got a copy for myself, which I still own to this day.
@hemanshera777 The voice of the talking head is David Warner, an English actor who also provided the voice for Ra's Al Ghul in Batman: The Animated Series, Sandar in Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes, Irenicus in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Morpheus in Fallout 1, and the corporation head in the original Disney Tron movie.
@hemanshera777 Batman The Animated Series. Wikipedia Ras Al Ghul and you'll get a picture him. You can even find a clip of Ras if you use the YouTube search engine.
Kind of funny how so much of Gameboy's marketing materials depicted it having a glowing screen, even though there was no light in the screen, which in turn resulted in our ophthalmologists begged our moms to ban us from ever having a gameboy.
The only Metroid games I don't like are Pinball (just a boring pinball) and Zero Mission (not a good remake, too changed and that extension after Mother Brain sucks). Good thing they don't interfere in the storyline. I LOVE ALL OTHERS, they have creative plots, cool gameplays and good graphics for the time they're released.
MY FAVOURITE IS METROID 2 because it's completely new and different from the 1st, and told more about the metroids than any other. Metroid Queen is the coolest enemy ever!
The announcer for this commercial is David Warner, voice of Ra's Al Ghul in Batman: The Animated Series. This was the first time I heard his voice, not BTAS.
this commercial LIES!!!! in metroid 2 you go to sr388, the home planet of the metroids. its not that you screwed up in metroid 1 and let one metroid survive.
To think, in 20 years people will be wanting to play Wii games saying that there ancient. While there playing virtual reality games and going on youtube with there eyes searching up like "The conduit trailer" And saying "MAN THAT GAME HAS BAD GRAPHICS!"
This commercial is wrong about the setup for the game. Samus is just going to the Metroid home planet. There wasn't a metroid that survived and multipied.
@MetroidPeter They could easily put a "You thought the metroids at the end of the first game were bad? Well now you're going to a planet full of them" or something like that.
@Yamigata It's not game lore, it's the setup/prologue to the specific game they're advertising. Plus they could've easily been told what the actual premise was. Maybe this commercial was finished before the game was. Like that was originally intended set-up, but they changed it at the end or something.
@dx619hey The prologue is part of the lore. Other than that, I agree with everything that you're saying. Yes, it's inaccurate. Yes, it would've been easy to ensure the commercial's accuracy. Also it might be more likely that the english translation of the game wasn't complete at the time the commercial was written. I'd bet the japanese version was already released.
@Yamigata Yeah, you're probably right in that regard. Oh well, it's of no real consequence to anything anyway. I still don't like this one either way, and that Another Metroid 2 Remake needs to get done quicker!
I remember seeing the commercials for Metroid II, although I didn't get to play the game until Summer 1998 when I got my first Gameboy Pocket. Metroid II was actually the first game I bought. Took me almost two weeks to complete the game.

they said metroimes it was rated 80 percent this was the worst of them all in the top 100 games it was rated 80 percent they were gonna remake this for the gameboy color
That's why I said Gameboy, not GBA. They're two entirely different things. You made an inaccurate comment - no amount of smoke and mirrors is going to cover that. Just let it go.
That's not the point. The Gameboy was not the equivalent of a 360 or a Wii, which is what you said. I'm aware of the advances in technology as well, so you don't need to explain that to me.
Not so much - even in 1991 we had much better graphics. The Genesis, Super Nintendo and TG-16 were all available and they outstripped the GameBoy's graphics pretty handily. :)
I like how they put up a disclaimer that the graphics had been enhanced but made no mention of the much higher quality sound effects...
Watching this and faving it today, just because I actually got this game on Easter long ago as a gift, and of course this ad led me to it. I still remember that "The future is in your hands!" line. Thanks for sharing this.
Along with Link's Awakening, I think Metroid II was one of the best games available for Gameboy. The battery save, the instant energy/missile refills & several new 'power upgrades' made it everything the NES version wasn't. I miss Metroid II's spider ball too.
You have to realize, you wouldn't have remembered that exact image when playing through the game. =)
Has anyone here heard of Metroid II's "secret worlds"? It's sweet shit. Google it. Glitches and shit...scary as Hell, to me. I used to play this game when I was like 8 and 9 - seeing all kinds of graphical glitches seems spooky for some odd reason. *shrug*
to be honest, the Queen Metroid stayed fresh in my mind as a kid when I first saw the commercial in Toys R Us, wondering when I'd meet up with it. And finally after years of endless wandering around in Metroid II, I finally found and beat her with a time of 11 hours.
