Snowy White, Andy Fairweather Low, & Doyle All are outstanding guitarists who do Roger proud but I'm partial to Doyle. Doyle has ...also been Eric Clapton's tour guitarist & session recording guitarist for 12 years now & Doyle just produced Eric's new record & Sheryl Crow;s new record. Doyle put out 3 solo records that were uneven but featured great playing. he hasn't released a solo record since 2001's "Welcome" but his BEST work is on the one time 1992 Arc Angels record. Phenomenal!
This is my favorite footage & piece of Doyle Bamhall II on tour with Roger Waters. Doyle is on the far left playing the left handed candy red Strat w/ mother of pearl inlay. His solos are just phenomenal here.

Just came here thinking to do a comparison with David Gilmours version. Was wondering what a show would be like without the missing 'Floyds'. Saw I wasnt alone. Oh dear!!!
This is the best version of Wish You Were Here. Roger sings it with passion. David Samson sings the song with no passion because he doesnt understand this song nor any of the songs that Roger wrote that he had the lucky situation of being allowed to sing. Roger shouldve sung the song for the album version too.
David Samson isnt a very convincing singer. He doesnt understand the songs.
This is a song that transcends the singer. If one examines the pain expressed in the lyrics, the context of the song (beautifully expressed, btw) is truly universal for those who've felt the loss and subsequent desire of a love....

when roger left, the 3 floyds produced nothing but ultra-studio enhanced crap, while caPitalizing on waters invention of the pink floyd laser light show (dave asked before darkside, "why cant we just go on stage and play?")....
Roger's voice is appropriate for this song and it is quite emotional. He deserves to have his own interpretation of it as it means so much to all of the band. I ain't keen on the arrangements here though. I would have liked to have heard Rick Wright sing it also.

@tigerfan1984 Relax man and take it easy. I made a comment not an accusation. Hello guys! For true fans of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters is inseparable from the group. He gives strength to the songs and the musical power of the original group. Gilmour is as Phil Collins, Genesis, too soft and too pop for my taste. That is my point of view and I love Roger Waters, having seen a show at the Center Bell. It was mom best show to life, Dark Side of the Moon. Good listening to you all.
I'd expect someone at Roger Waters level to be able to find better guitar players. The guy with the Strat seems to be especially away with the fairies rather than playing what the song needs.
Roger is definitely at his best sonically when he is with this complate line-up (with the exception of the original Pink Floyd line-up of course). Nicely done, on this song as well as Comfortably Numb he could never replace/match Gilmour (and as a very bright man I'm sure that Roger is well aware of that) but nevertheless this was a solid well-done somewhat unique effort. Thanks for posting!
It's not a contest between Rogers or Gilmour. It's a gift to us all...each of you criticizing one or the other obviously have a talent for criticism, but no talent for recognizing art. Finger paints, anyone?
@marsstal As much as i love waters, he is not the only person who made Pink Floyd what it is. Pink Floyd was great with Syd Barret as their writer, and great with Waters as the writer. Even the post-waters floyd gave us great songs, like high hopes. I'm glad they never stopped ^_^
@TheXtheguitaristX You don't know your facts. It his his own music, he wrote most of the PF stuff. PF without Roger is no PF any more. They should have stopped when Roger went.
Different styles of singing, dear drivergene... but long, long time ago (in 70's) Gilmour was the first male voice which were more agreeable to my ears... but some songs sung by Waters sound good for me, like Possible Pasts, The Post War Dream and basically the entire The Final Cut album, if I'm not wrong he lead all vocals...
yep, i do like this version but the nod definetly goes to gilmour. waters would be good backing vocals on this. no knocks to waters, no disrespect...just sounds better with gilmour

@drivergene I agree that David has a great singing voice but roger has that rasp in his voice that gives it a little more emotion imo. both david and Roger are great in their own way :)
@drivergene I agreed on that Gilmour has the best and cleanest voice, but Roger just has so much emotions going on. You can tell that he is feeling it, and this he passes over to me as a listener.
After seeing and hearing all about the Japanese losses in the earthquake I decamped to my room and put Wish You Were Here on and I could hardly hold the emotions in.
It's never been the quality of the actual voices of Waters and Gilmore, although I remain unconvinced that they aren't good, but the quality of what they wrote.
The band did lose a little something when Waters left, but it would have been like the death of a loved one had they folded. Now Rick Wright has gone it's all over.
@Theinoch They pretty much both sang on equal amounts of Pink Floyd's material, and Waters has had a far more successful solo career. These days he pretty much IS Pink Floyd. Just look at The Wall - Live in Berlin concert, or any of the concerts he stages nowadays. I don't think Gilmour has got quite near that. I'm not trying to slay Gilmour or nothing, I'm just saying that Waters' has done pretty good for himself as a lead singer. But he never got close to being a lead guitarist though.
Richard Wright composed the melody, Roger Waters penned the lyrics and David Gilmour brought, "Wish You Were Here," to life. This song does not work without David Gilmour - sorry Roger. You are trying, but it does not work.
@menthol5 To me Pink Floyd started going downhill when Waters made it his sole project, but when he left and Gilmour tried to keep going the ship sunk. I like this far better than the album version.
There was no Floyd without Waters, and no Floyd without Gilmour. Take this song for example, can you think of any other two versed song with such recognition. This was due to the amazing lyrics created by Waters. The same with Gilmours guitar work, making it one of the most renowned and loved intro's of all time. Here you can see Floyd only really creates such musical fusion when Rogers and Gilmour and together. The DB and MLOF both very skilled in the way of guitar, lack the lyrical support.
@leon5961 Pink Floyd were a group of men who together made some of the best music ive had the privilege to hear and will probably never hear again in my life time @4:52 listen to what he says probably referring to his good friends who together were Pink Floyd. Floyd is the shit
solo digo q cada uno puede tener su opinion respecto a los conflictos de la banda,y esto no significa q este equivocado.es simplemente una opinion.y cada cual tiene derecho a tener una.i just say that everyone can have his own opinion about the bands conflicts.and that no mean he is wrong.is just an opinion and each one has the right to have his own.
Anyone else interpret the end where he says "I wish you were here" as a statement to david gilmour? Roger Waters wants to re-unite Pink Floyd, but David Gilmour isn't much interested in doing so. Don't get me wrong, I much prefer Gilmour over Waters. I wonder which concerts he will choose to play for Waters 2010-11 Wall tour.
i prefer david gilmour version!!!! :D

WHY does it sound like they saying it not singin
Theinoch 10 months ago
@Theinoch It's just Waters' voice quality. If you can't hear the melody in his voice, then you're tone deaf.
Benjy3634 10 months ago
@Benjy3634 Maybe i cant hear melody in his voice, because it is not David Gilmour? I mean Roger is a good singer, but not quite a lead singer.
Theinoch 10 months ago

@Benjy3634 I stand b y what I said.

I quite like the Country & Western slant to it,
I also like the fact it's electric not acoustic (most of it)
I like the Eastern European accent Roger Waters is putting on.
Nah, I'm joking, this isn't floyd, this isn't even David Gilmour,
Gilmour's version is so much better.

@leon5961 Roger Waters without Pink Floyd equals nothing.
I have their solo albums as well as all PF. The only solo album i play frequently
is Richard Wrights Wet dreams. Quite surprised myself as i thought Gilmour and Waters wrote
more. Maybe is was their egos who thought so.
