Yes, I know they are alternating strobe lights; I thought you wondering why there were flashes all over the place - my camera can't record strobes; they don't turn out, correctly.
Amtrak uses their 8,000 hp HHP-8's on long distance trains (like the Silver Meteor and Crescent) and Acela Regional's on the NEC. I suppose Amtrak could use HHP-8's on Keystone Service trains, if they wanted to. But, since their AEM-7AC's seem to be doing fine (for now) on the Harrisburg Line, they don't need to.
@2GUNBOY ive read some reports on HHP-8s. They r known for their continuous jolts. And since now its is push pull on the Keystone Corridor, HHP-8s would be no good.
Great video. It's too bad Amtrak's new anti-photographer rule *ahem* Media Policy doesn't allow for these kinds of video taking anymore; unless of course you buy a ticket.
Thanks! I here you! I actually did have a ticket when I took these shots; I went to check out the Philadelphia Zoo. I just wish I would have brought my camera when I went to Philadelphia, a few years ago; It was the last time I ever saw a P42DC-powered Keystone Service (with three Amfleet's). And, this was before the upgrade project. Wow, what a... rough ride!
@wrailfan I DOUBT its possible to enforce that at stations not owned by Amtrak that share stations with other railroads, like the Metro-North railroad in NY, NJ Transit, etc, that allow photography of their trains. :P
They have had the electric there, just weren't using it for a while. With the upgrades recently, improved service from Harrisburg to Philly. Part of that was upgrading the track and using electric again. Enjoy your trip!

great quality, two questions
1) where are the HHP-8's
2) what's with the strobe lights
jfsa380 1 year ago
1) HHP-8's do not run on the Harrisburg Line; they run on the NEC (which the Harrisburg Line is not a part of.
2) It's my camera, not the strobe lights; I am not quite sure why it does that.

no offence, but im pretty sure those are alternating strobe lights on the cab car, and why not use HHP-8's to harrisburg?

Man, the space between the platforms is huge
nx2000 2 years ago
There used to be two through tracks between the platform tracks. There were removed in 2005 iirc.

Neither cab bar had their headlight lit...coincidence?
Bffenn 4 years ago 6
The headlights are lit on both.

@Bffenn Headlights are counter productive during the day time. Once it gets darker the engineer will make use of them.
