  • Shawn,

    I apologize if i ask to many questions, but is ur left falling in place as if skully was standing to the right of you and you were going to punch him. or would it be as if skully was to the right of you but behind you...lets see as if he was sitting beside you in the movies or behind you.....i dunno tried a clement analogy there....again thanks for everything....

  • Hey Shawn, Would you describe the left arm motion in the swing as pronating (palm pointing down) in the backswing, and supinating in the downswing (palm up). Is this how the clubhead is square at contact? Thanks.

  • Hello Shawn,

    I would like to thank you for your awesome advice! Tried it out on the course, and my shots are getting consistently more solid. Your lesson is easy to understand and very effective! By the way, I'm just a high school golfer, so I'm still learning!

    Thanks,

    Adrienne

  • Hi Shawn, Continuing to work on the game. I see the beautiful extension in your right arm coming through impact but I even after having tried have not been able to get it right. It kind of folds. Any suggestions. Thanks. Working on seeing you for lessons in July 2011.

  • @mjs0039 It sounds to me like you are allowing the arms to crash into the body because the ball is still your default target; but I would have to see; in the meantime, review my "golf pro lesson stop crashing" video as well as "golf pro lesson top view of swing" and "golf pro lesson coordinating arm motion with body turn"; Shawn

  • Shawn,

    I cannot keep my left arm straight because of past injuries of my left shoulder. What can I do?

  • @djames1967 Please see "golf pro lesson how to coordinate arm motion with body turn"; it has all the answers together with "golf pro lesson stop crashing" ; Shawn

  • Hey shawn,

    man am I glad I found your videos. I am getting your dvd's to take on the road with me. I am single digit am 55 yrs old and have a deteriorating left knee. It is playing havoc with my golf swing. It doesn't like to move in the way it is supposed to. Any suggestions on how to take some pressure off of it without destroying everything you have given me.

    I have taken lessons from many teachers and you are the ONLY one that makes perfect sense to me.

    thanks again,

    bob

  • Hey Bob;

    Sorry I missed this one; it is a bit tough to give you advice when I don't know what the extent of the damage is and on what side of that left knee; it is difficult as this is the leg that receives the most torque in the swing... I know that a full knee brace has helped many of my students though; what does your doctor say? Have you consulted an orthopedic surgeon yet?

    Shawn

  • Thanks Shawn! I love your enthusiasm for teaching the golf swing. I work in a golf shop and when I meet beginners or people wanting help with their swing...I try to pass on some of your analogies and recommend they watch your videos on youtube...I think much of what you are teaching is sound advise.

  • Hey thanks a lot tshoey22! Much appreciated for the kind words and well wishes; I hope you guys are having a great season! Shawn

  • Hi Shawn

    I am the proud owner of your dvd,s but i am looking for some extra help in getting my right arm working, i play right handed but i am a left hander , sometimes i feel the right arm is just along for the ride, its robbing me of power. on wet day or slighty thicker grass i dont have the power to get through as i would like.

    I find if i really focus on my right arm i get the nice compression sound from the ball but i need something to get the right arm in the game.

    Many thanks Paul

  • Hey Paul;

    I understand completely and the key here is to feel that when you grip the club, that you now have a complete ARM-CLUB UNIT that hangs from the shoulder sockets; see "golf pro lesson grip awareness" and "golf pro lesson takeaway and starting the swing" this is exactly how the Great Payne Stewart did it; feel how when the right arm folds, it causes the wrists to hinge and that the arm unit LOADS UP LIKE A SLING SHOT! Shawn

  • Shawn,

    how do you know when you have finished your backswing? I feel if I rely on gravity and momentum only in my backswing, i don't feel like a make a complete back swing..it only feels like a 3/4 backswing if that..and in your demonstrations it does not look as though you make a complete back swing either but a 3/4 or less backswing...should there be consciuos effort to turn the shoulders a littlef arther to complete your backswing? otherwise i lkie your teaching style

  • Hey tshoey22! A complete backswing IS NOT A PARALLEL TO THE GROUND thing; a complete backswing means you FEEL THAT YOU CAN WHIP THE SNOT OUT OF THE CLUB WITHOUT USING MUCH EFFORT AND IS RELATED TO HOW MUCH TURN YOU HAVE IN THE WHOLE BODY. If you feel the need to push, help or shove the club through impact, then you are short of completing it; see also "golf pro lesson downswing weightshift"; Great post! Shawn

  • Hi Shawn just a quick question. How far into your backswing should your wrists be fully hinged and is there one particular video that describes it? Many thanks

    Stephen

  • Better than that Stephen; go to my "Golf Pro Lesson Perpetual Motion drill" and FEEL where the wrists hinge and unhinge when you COMPLETELY GIVE THE ARM-CLUB UNIT TO GRAVITY! Thanks for the question! Shawn

  • Does the right hand turn over the left just after impact or thru? Also, how much should it turn over? Obviously not overdone :) But is there a point you should checking? Sometimes I dont turn it over enough but I dont want to slap thru the ball either.

  • See the first 2 minutes of the "Golf Pro Lesson Taut swing Philosophy"; Shawn

  • hey shawn, thx 4 the all the g8 vids u have posted, 1 question, im having a problem wif my balance,im finding myself leaning forward on my downswing, ne drills u wud recommend?

  • The best drill is the "perpetual motion drill" video and you can check out the "Golf Pro Lesson on the slopes" video as well and practice with the ball below the feet; then finish with the timing of the swing with "feet together drill" to "sequence power drills" to "Downswing weightshift" and then practice this sequence in the perpetual motion setting like in the "Bilateral golf swing"; nuff said? :) Shawn

  • Hi Shawn,

    I have watched all your vids and DVD several times. Great stuff, perhaps the best available in the business. Yet, one problem that keeps plagueing my golfswing is an apparent ''hitting urge'' resulting in not letting the arms ''fall''' and incomplete follow thru, wrong timing. I tried the parking brake drill This is all driving me nuts. Any sound advice for me here, apart from giving up the game, seeing a shrink or commit harikiri ;-).

    Thanks in advance.

    Anthony , the Netherlands.

  • Hi Anthony;

    Sorry for not getting back to you earlier! Busy spring!

    There is a short circuit going on in your swing and it sounds to me like your eyes are moving in the backswing; have someone look at your swing and see if my gut is correct; see if the urge to hit is still there when you are swinging through to a target with your eyes closed; you might want to send me a video of your swing too through the swing analysis services page of my website... Shawn

  • 2:33

    This where i have a big problem. I constantly hit the ground before hitting the ball and i lose tons of distance. At the end when i am done at the range, my right shoulder is killing me from digging into the ground. Is there anything i could try?

    I also having a hard time just swing and trying to sweep the ground.

  • Hey Man, sorry for the delay!

    This is a tilt problem as well as a target perception problem; see "golf pro lesson Tilted Spiral" part 1, 2 and 3; all 3 are primo important! " also see "golf pro lesson Braced Tilt" Part 1 and 2 and "Golf Pro Lesson Proper spine tilt angle"

  • Hi Shawn,

    I have seen all you videos re arm movement.

    However, I am having trouble getting it right.

    Could you perhaps make a video where we can see in close up ( like you did with the grip ) how your left arm rotates and how far back your right hand bends at the top of the swing ? Thank you for always answering my questions.

  • Hi Jette!

    The key here is to feel that Gravity and Centrifugal force is placing the arms and club in the whole swing! These videos are for your understanding only; the best drill for arms is the "perpetual motion drill" combined with the "feet together drill" and the training aid from Izzo which is an elastic bandage that fits around the base of both biceps to keep the elbows close together during the entire swing which keeps the arms infront of the body and gives you the sensation that...

  • ...that the arms are swinging as one massive unit gathering taut momentum through the ball towards the target; see the "Golf Pro Lesson training aids part 1 and 2" and you will see that blue band I am talking about and you can order it through the Izzo website for about $12.00; the other videos to watch are "swing plane and "taut swing Philosophy". Shawn

  • The GRIP! I've worked all Summer on Shawn's concepts. I first corrected my grip. Immediately, ball contact imporved. But, over the Summer, things deteriorated. I've found that I've crept back to my old grip - right hand rotated more clockwise to the right(stronger?). I think that has long been the source of my shallow swing plane/laid off club .. and troubles. I couldn't hinge my right wrist correctly & it pulled my club off plane. I'm amazed how the grip had such a huge influence on my plane.

  • Very nice awareness piece here!

    Thanks for posting! Shawn

  • hi shawn..nice video anyway..how to avoid the club face hitting the ground before the ball?...

  • Have a look at the "Through the ball", "Contact and spin", "Compress through the ball" and "Catapult Power" videos as a start; you will find all my videos on my "you tube Shawn" page of my website listed at the top of the description of this video;

    Thanks for the question! Shawn

  • The picture of pushing a child on a swing has been dramatic for me. I now realise that the power point must the heel of my right hand pushing. Correct application causes the arms to drop and the right elbow to lead the arms with a flat left wrist at impact. Can you please confirm that this is a correct understanding because I have never heard to role of the heel of the right hand explicitly explained before.

    Dennis H/C 15

  • Yes; you are on the right track; "Golf Pro Lesson Pronation Supination" and "Golf Pro Lesson Contact and Spin" will elaborate on this...Shawn

  • Shawn, let me thank you for the tip "Wrists Flat" and used the grip pressure technique in your video and it worked. Thanks again! BobMakati

  • Correction: During the downswing is your left arm pulling with more grip pressure than your right arm and grip pressure?

  • Shawn, during the downswing is your left arm pulling with more grip pressure than you left arm grip pressure? Your teaching is outstanding thanks.

  • Hi Bob; Thanks!

    Have a look at the "Golf Pro Lesson Wrists Flat??" video that shows how the wrists hinge with a good grip, and at the end I explain the why and the how of the grip pressure; Shawn

  • Shawn, this stuff is amazing!

  • Shawn, can you do some of these videos lefthanded. As lefties need hel as well.

  • very nice tips!!!

  • Very helpful :D
