Most of the many thousands of innovations that advanced the state of the art in the 60's were done by Americans however with regards to rocket technology the Americans made huge technological inroads immedietly after world war 2 with the inception of Von Braun and the German rocket team...as mentioned though by the mid 50's over 90% of discoveries were done by U.S. scientists and U.S. companies
