  • People ought to realise it's a reference to Spoken Word Artists and is influenced by Linton Kwesi Johnson, to my knowledge the only reggae / dub poet on the national curriculum. It's a bit silly but then so were the other adverts like Mr Budgerigar and the woman who was talking to the women's institute in patois. It did its job and got everyone talking about it - clever adverts do stick. As a black person I think it's no more offensive than Ali G.

  • thumbs up if you think political correctness has gone insane.

  • mastication???

  • I see nothing wrong with this advert. I didn't remember the product thou!

  • im offended because i cant understand a cunting word hes saying

  • Racist or not, this ad makes no sense and is just plain stupid. It fails of its essential purpose (to convince me to buy the gum).

  • Sad these stereotypes are still used in adverts and are broadcast all over the UK. Being a person of color, I find this advert insulting. This could be one of the first black people a young child sees, you don't know how many people I have met and their kids act slightly odd around me, so I usually ask them strait do you have any other "black" friends, they act shocked but after thinking they say no. My point is, that this idiotic Minstrel act would be broadcasted to impressionable kids.

  • Hmm, still though i don't think it's that bad... You can have a stereotype from any nation. I mean, i'm a bangladeshi, but if I saw some crazy indian guy on an advert I wouldn't be offended. i'm not indian, but that's what I tend to be associated with but I don't mind too much.

I think this advert is funny, having a funny carribean guy being crazy and spreading a slogan. If it's harmful to children, then it should be moved after the water shed.

  • @need4feet

and my kids all think white men from Yorkshire are dickheads like Chris Moyles... it's a crying shame.

  • it's not racist, you're just confused. its your bodies natural reaction to something so indescriminately riddled with fail

  • guys...

you all got this all wrong...

dont over analyze it and start masticating

  • umm...WTF were they thinking with this ad

  • More like wtf did they put in that chewing gum

  • its a commonly known rule of tv that if a black person is playing the role its not racist

  • I thought it was the other way around?

  • So racist they payed a real black guy, probably a lot of money, to do this add.

  • fucking awful

  • anyone know what the slogan's derived from? my mates and i are sure we can remember reggae and dub artists singing something like it?

  • This is a annoying advert on TV.

  • 360Shows Says:"And what the hell is all the fuss about racism its called a joke it doesnt mean we all go out wearing white hoods."

Look mate; Just because your not in the the KKK doesn't mean your not rascist, I think you need to open your eyes. This Advert plays on racial stereotypes that were thought dead & buried; I thought this Ad was hugely patronising.

  • Wait a second, you thought this ad was racist!?!?! HAHAHAHA!!! You moron!

This guy is Jamaican, and has a jamaican accent - Since when has it ever been racist to a show a man on television with a regional accent!?!?!? If anything, this is just getting another black face on TV - practically anti-racist.

Just grow up and stop thinking that everything which involves someone who isn't white and middle class is racist.

  • tht aint a jamaican accent and tht aint how a jamaican person acts either.. ur from bristol yh go down by St pauls by criterion and see how the jamaicans there feel portrayed in this advert im sure they'll show u how they feel

  • im not rascist and im in the kkk

  • how does it though?

is there a hidden message on it or something?

because i've watched it like 10 times and it still seems like just a normal advert to me :/

  • @Superdude1992

I agree that it's patronising... but at the same time... I think the people who made it were aware of artists like Zephaniah and Linton Kwesi Johnson and were relying on the audience to do the same... instead the people who complained and got it banned probably just saw a derogatory representation of a black man acting the fool instead of a light parody of some really positive black british artists who deserve to be in the public conciousness

  • @Superdude1992 As I'm actually of the race to which you think are offended, let me tell you – cheer up lad. We also have a sense of humour, or do you think we can't even laugh? Tell me, in what way is this against my race? Wake up and watch a few adverts, everythings a bit wacky these days – the joke here isn't anything to do with the race, it's about him wanting to tell the world about Trident – you think we all want to spread the word about Trident, because that's not even a "stereotype"

  • masturbation for the nation

  • Some people are far too touchy.

Yes it does play on stereotypes. But so what? Some people need to get a sense of humour.

  • Only racist people would find this racist.

  • "undercrackers" how fucking dare he, I am going to complain to the highest authorities about this, set cars on fire, kill several people and seriously injure many more.

  • It wasn't a very good commercial..in fact, it got on my nerves...but racist? I don't think so.

  • how the fuck is that racist?! the actor obviously didn't find it offensive!

pathetic that this should get banned.

but as someone on here has already mentioned - it's a shit advert anyway!

  • "If he doesn't mind us laughing at him, what harm's been done?"

  • Ha ha ha jokes mate that was lol ad.

And what the hell is all the fuss about racism its called a joke it doesnt mean we all go out wearing white hoods.

  • nice comment,

+ someone called superdude1992 has quoted you on another comment, thought you'd like to know

  • what a shitty shitty commercial. the issues of racism aside, it's just a shitty shitty commercial.

  • Ha ha. I think that guy smoked some weed beforehand!

  • Absolutely pathetic that people were offended so much. There are adverts that mock people from all walks of life, Americans mock Brits for being posh and sipping tea, Brits mock Americans for all being fat, Welsh get mocked for sheep-shagging, Scottish for wearing kilts. Its all a bit of fun. Noone can make a joke without someone being offended, so should we take away fun? Should we be banned for doing a Scouse accent? Or Aussie? Or French? No? So why should a Jamaican accent be prohibited?

  • notiobian4ever - I hear ya, and you have a good point. But if you're a manority, you don't know whether you're being laughed "with" or at. You don't know whether someone is laughing WITH you, or making fun OF you. I have white friends who I know aren't racist and therefore we joke around all he time about our races and it's all in fun. But with strangers, you just don't know how to take it.

  • That's fair enough I do see that point of view. I have a couple of black friends myself so I don't enjoy the advert because it mocks Jamaicans, I just enjoy it because I find it funny. I'm from the north-west of England and there's jokes all the time about Lancashire being full of inbreds and chimneys, and to be honest I find them funny.

At the end of the day in my view... it's only a joke.

  • I can't believe I misspelled "minority."

    (=

  • It can be seen as offensive especially towards thge end when the guy runs out and runs into a laundry - the expressions on the guys face.

Please remove this advert - not nice to watch

  • If only the position of black people in this country had improved significantly, people wouldnt mind being depicted as an object of fun. However if we are still being depicted as objects of fun, criminals and only accepted to work as cleaners and care assistants - people become very sensitive about it. That sub-strata does not sum up where we want to be in this country.

  • wkd man constiipatin for tha nation and all lol

  • Racist? The black actor wasn't forced into acting like that!

  • Of course this advert is racist, it's like a modern day minstrel show, it's fucking painful to watch.

  • this is comedy, not racism! any excuse for racism groups to have a go these days!

  • (KISS TEETH)i HATE this ad. it makes "jamaicans" sound stupid. i don't know any west indian that prances around like a IIIDYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAATTTT!!!!

  • this ad is now been band from the tv

  • MASTIBATION FOR THE NATION u where all thinking it :D

  • do u have the female version 2 dis?

  • nah soz its on youtube somewhere and its on trident's website

  • are malibu adverts racist as well? fucking political correctness has gone mad.

  • boo you that hate dis advert

  • This is definately not racist.

A white guy can act like a white guy and also a mad man.

When a black person does it people say "ZOMG THAT'S RACIST!"

  • Crying wolf (racism) all the time desensitizes people to REAL racism. Its simply a comedic advertisement with a African doing a JA accent. WTF??

  • if it is racist thn its racist to white people i dno why but its certinatly nt racist to black people or a black wunt b doin the ad

  • there's different kinds of black people this man isn't even jamaican this man is african and why shudn't we complained west indians are paying our tv licience too

  • Racist? It is an excellent advert why cant a black guy talk like a black guy in front of a tv audience I reckon the racists are the people who complained. "Cant understand the nigger lets get im off the box". lets burn their houses down while chewing trident soft. MASTICATION FOR THE NATION!

  • I think its save to assume what some of you were thinkin when you heard 'mastication'. I know I was! Plus hows this racist? Damn I get annoyed when people complain about a cool ad. If anything they're racist for not allowing people of other races on TV.

"OMG he's black AND on TV. RACISM!"

Get a live people. Mastication for the Nation!

  • he's a madman hahaaaaaaaaaaa, i love it!

  • randomlongawaited: I watched Channel 4 news yesterday and they said the advert had been reported because of the high level of complaints. Oh Well It's back to the switch advert for me.

    "Aaaaaaaahhh you saved"

    "Oh yes you did"

    "Wwoooooohoooo Aaagggghhhhhh"

  • People have to much time on their hands. Who is it meant to be racist to exactly?

  • ohhh! for fuk sake fckin everything is racist these days its doin mi hed in!

  • if this is racist then what about that prat howard the hallifax man?

  • Its not racist, its only cos Trident is the name of the police force in charge of black on black crime. But theres no way this is racist. Its just people over reacting. No black people find it racist!

  • This is the most annoying advert on TV.

  • Its getting loads of complaints for being racist. What do you think?

  • mental funny. the ones with the bugies and the old ladies is even better

  • Best advert ever, thats why i uploaded it to youtube!

  • init thats why i did n all =]

  • apparently its drawing complaints because its alledgedly "racist".
