@shinypurplewalrus charming, i think you will find the aston is touchtronic (paddle shift), which means the driver still decides when to change gear. shifting at the right time (ie, at the right rev) is just as important as getting a physicaly fast "manual" shift. a Touchtronic gearbox wont change gear for you. Also, 0-60 times do matter when racing "from the hole" because the 0-60 is proportional and representantive of the cars overall acceleration, but hey, im just a "fucking tard" :)

@chillbreeder93 The guy who owns the DBS knows when to click the paddle. He's on the M5 board, meaning he's a hell of a lot more educated than you are on vehicles. Also, there's no guarantee he's actually in the paddle mode, it could be shifting automatically. Second, wow, 0-60 is proportional and representative of a car's overall acceleration?! What are you on? A super heavy, powerful AWD car will score a very low 0-60 but fall on it's face after the first 100m. Yes, you are a tard :)

i can tell you thats no standard m5..i have a Aston DBS and raced m3s and m5s and porsche gt 2 and from 0-150kmh the aston is mutch faster upp to 200kmh its clooser whit the m5 and that is becouse of the rpm the aston stops at 6500 and the m5 at 7500-8400 so thats why tey win at hich speed the gt rs is faster than the dbs but it got 100 horse power more and are lighter

Remember the M5 is a tuned version against a standard dbs, the dbs is a 200mph car and 0 to 60 in about 4 seconds the m5 standard is 4.7

@speedbird007 The M5 also tops 200mph+ .Even with a ECU remap, it only gets a 15-20hp advantage over the DBS which does not make up for the almost 200kg weight disadvantage. So saying its against a standard dbs doesnt mean anthing since the dbs power to weight is still superior. I love both cars, but my god that aston got raped

Anyone know what gearbox is in the aston? Is it a new double clutch design, or the one from the DB9, or perhaps the robotised box from the Vanquish?

I think the gearbox let this car down here. Might be a different result with a pure manual.

@ianrkav The box is from a DB9, shifting 25 % faster, same T- Tronic 2 box, 1 clutch.

1) The driver overrevved on his launch gear.... I believe he coulda lowballed the next one. The reason is that the Aston doesn't have a redline indicated on the tachometer, so it is hard to shift....

2) The touchtronic blows, astons should only come manual

3) The M5 is tuned

4) The DBS is regeared to have low end acceleration, like a Gallardo

@genatsvalle91 Ok thanks for that. So it is basically a retuned DB9 box. That's still a bit too soft for a DBS. I think the manual would deliver a much better result here, especially with the M5 not being stock.

No problem :), It is a modded DB9 box, which to no surprise, is standard on the second generation DB9

The manual DBS registered on several separate accounts a 8.6 second sprint to 100 m/h/160 kph and a low twelve second quartermile (400 meters) at ~118 m/h... which is quite a lot faster than the M5, M6, even California etc..

The t tronic DBS hits the 100 m'h in low 9s, and the quarter in the high 12s at 114 m/h- that was the fastest I saw...

Thanks for the timings, that puts things into perspective. The DBS went around the top gear track quicker than a stock M5, so a DBS T-tronic should have at least stayed with the tuned M5 touring above I would have thought. Says a lot about the box doesn't it!

Yes, it would have probably stayed (at least for a while) if not for the incompetent shifting...But the different nature of the engines is also to consider...The reason why the DBS did post such a fast track time (with the seggs and Zondas) is because it has a flat torque curve, which will throw it out of corners without the need of revving up the engine. The S85 in the BMW is a high revving unit, so it will have to be revved to produce similar power. Drag racing doesnt require revving

It is also surprising that the sportpack manual V8 vantage can pull a quarter in 12.5 seconds (Motor Trend/Car&Driver)...faster than the touchtronic DBS....

The touchtornic-1 (I believe DB7 Vantage was the car with it) was rubbish...

Sadly U.S. demand for the slushbox means that it now made it's way into the DBS... originally a manual-only special.

The US demand explains the auto box. It's a huge and financially important market so they have to go with the flow I suppose.

@LBB988 The Aston takes longer to build than a BMW. (costs more) It uses more expensive materials. (costs more) It requires lots of hand finishing. (costs more) And Aston only sell a handful of cars compared to BMW so it has to ask a fair price for its cars and cannot subsidise its sales by selling cheaper cars by the millions like BMW does. BMW can also plough millions into development of its performance cars because it makes huge profits by selling cheaper cars. Aston cant do this.

@HaggardFlea The Aston uses an automatic box, with torque converter. Its a grand tourer not a super pumped up semi stripped mid engine Ferrari, there are no notes to be taken. A F1 box like in the Ferrari would just make the Aston all jerky and uncomfortable.
