I remember reading this article saying that Open GL 2.0 is on the same scale as DirectX10
I am not sure about this information.(Those who micro lovers, don't hate me for this comment).

GL2 is definitely at least on par with DX10, but what everyone has to keep in mind that GL is limited to Graphics where DX is capable of handling EVERYTHING a programmer needs to develop a game engine. So you were not misinformed.
