  • doowop allthe way i am therewant someone tobe close to me

  • They're still the best. I love this song.

  • If memories were money, the CHANNELS would make me a very rich man!!!

  • Just as I turned off the road, the distinctive sounds of Earl Lewis and the Channels came through the speakers of my car radio. Somehow the NY oldies station chose that very minute to play our song. I cried for an instant and than walked over to where a small cross marked her grave. The words "The Closer You are" had a truly special meaning on the cold windy day. ...but then you went away...but now your back to stay...love you always and forever, sweet Judy. Till we're together in heaven, JM

  • This was my first girlfriend's favorite song in 1956/57 when we were just 12 and 13 year old kids. I sent a dedication in to Allan Freed, asking hime to play it for Judy, promising I'd love her forever. When ever she heard it play after that we she always wanted to get up and dance real slow to the lilting ballad. Fifty years later I found out that she'd died and gone to be with the angels. Next time I went to NY I drove thru the cemetery to the section where here grave was located...cont'd

  • I love music. I was a big radio fan. Never in my life did I ever think radio would become obsolete to me. It has because the music has died. My solice is being about to come to youtube and hear great music from the past.

  • Great Group...

  • Frank Zappa did this song justice in the 80's, check it out.

  • SWEET

  • The guys from Clarksdale Park would sing with under the light pole at night or really any-time!!

YES!!! The good times in my life!

    1960-1965,

Then school was over, kids moved away and that was the end of that part of our life!

Reunions was kept alive for a few years after that , then that also went away!

We-All went on our way into a different life, Sad we don't connect any-more

Love to go back to see friends from my pass!

This song sure brings out the memories of my life

    Thanks

  • GREAT SONG! THANKS

  • Tonight (could be the night) by Virgil Johnson & The Velvets runs a close second!

  • If this isnt the greatest doowop of all time, then its . 5 part harmony at its best, this group had it all. A dynamite lead, Earl Lewis is still singin great, The Channels will always be with all of us.

  • A truly great song. Timeless.

  • When I first saw you , I did adore you and your loving ways. classic

  • I almost always hear this song described as a "local New York hit", but it got a lot of airplay on WHB in Kansas City and was most likely a top 10 song there.

  • @rocco4116

The group was from the Bronx and for about a year they had

had Larry Hampton on lead. Earl Lewis and Clifton Wright

moved over from another local group the Lotharios and within

a week of winning a talent contest at P.S. 113 singing the

Flamingo's ballad " I'll Be Home "the group was performing

on stage at the famous Apollo Theater and the rest is history

    as they say.

  • @Kungamuck Dam I went to 113 and became a member of the acappella group The Five Chancells(on Dawn record). In 94 I was part of The Bob Knight Four. 2006 Times Square. 2010 The Jaynells. Now just hungry for more. Lookin for a group. Great school 113

  • @IM2PersonalProblems Lots of great memories from 'the best days of our lives' and some of the best as well for our great country. If the young today would only take an example from these early groups and use the street corners for the bringing together of some great voices . . desparity would soon be forgotten and the world would once again be privileged to hear some of the best this nation has to offer . . Doo Wop = the Soul of America !

  • this sure brings back some memories

  • awesome !!

  • @ringbolt9 i agree man im just 18 and this music was in its prime before i was even thot of but i feel it in my soouul!!

  • When I was in high school, this was considered the greatest doo wop of them all. No exceptions. If you didn't agree, of course, you were out.
