  • I don't feel so bad now I have four ThinkPads ;)

  • I'm about to buy one of these off eBay. They look really good! I love the Thinkpads!

  • Intro was waaay to long, it would be better if you prepared some script earlier. :)

About the T61 - i thought that they have the new logo on the palmrest.

Anyway, I just ordered my T61 7663-CTO which should arrive next week It's used but in mint condition, it cost about 500 dollars.

Have you tested the gpu performance in yours?

  • I use one at school, on amazon it costs $1000. It is by far the WORST laptop I have ever used, it is very slow. It uses XP and is used very little, it is still very slow, once again, by far the WORST laptop I have used.

  • @LightningDragon1999 You had to have had a bad one, or one that was locked down to prevent you from using it. Was it an entry level T61?

This T61 was one of my all-time favorite Thinkpads.

  • @maddmaddworld

    HAHA. Thinkpad t60, t61 FTW!

    I have a t60.

  • @LightningDragon1999

Laptop was obviously set up by idiots with loads of bloatware. I suspect you are not even using a T6x series at all, XP runs fast on everything since the T4x series (even with normal bloatware).

  • Classic Dome for president!!!! (would be surely better than obama)

  • I'm trying to find a new T61 for video editing, and I cant seem to find one. Do you know of any newer models of the Thinkpad or any high-performance IBM's?

  • @OBIWANKENOBIDUDE i think the t410 is a good choice if u live in the us u get purchase one of lenovo outlet online for around $730

  • @OBIWANKENOBIDUDE i think the lenovo t410 is a good notebook it can be purchased online from lenovo outlet, its a high spec pc be sure to get the refurb models they are usually around $730

  • looking to get this to replace my now near dead Aspire 5100. And as these things go cheap here in the UK on eBay (£200).

I know that IBM's a built like rocks but this model is a good few years old. Would it run Win7 (with or withou Aero). And would it be okay for computer programming (VisualBasic 6).

  • @NarcoticEvil im currently using a lenovo t61 15.4" with a core2duo @ 2.4ghz 2.4ghz with 2gb ram and it has a nvidia quadro nvs 140m it runs aero themes with tonnes of windows with loads of tabs amazingly...

  • @NarcoticEvil im currently using a lenovo t61 15.4" with a core2duo @ 2.4ghz 2.4ghz with 2gb ram and it has a nvidia quadro nvs 140m it runs aero themes with tonnes of windows with loads of tabs amazingly... but i reccomend the t410 from the outlet us only

  • Whahaha, you are so happy with your computer.

  • how much is the T61?

  • @600evan This one was between $2,000-2,500, but I don't have it any more. It was only for a project that I was working on. That model is now about 3 years old.

  • @maddmaddworld and is now an excellent buy on ebay!

  • how much is the T61?

  • i got 1 just lyk dat!

  • A t41, t42 and t43 are nearly the same in thinckness as a t60.

I think no unknowledged chap won't notice you have a different model :)

  • Whats the price on these bad boys???

  • 00:42 LOL

  • i got a question i have a lenovo t61 but i dont have a good video card, could i upgrade it...

  • thinkpad love it. So far I have amassed around 30 of them from t40 to a w700. I will take a thinkpad over any macbook pro, hp or dell latitude anyday. So how is your nvidia gpu holding up, is it failing or something? I had t61 that just had its mobo replaced recently.

  • Please what camera you utilze to shot this video? thanks!

  • lol, the first step of curion idiocy is first admitting it, then reducing it, etc etc, good vid

  • dell owns =)

i want a new laptop for my bday, and i picked out the specs and everything on dell and now my dad is sayin u may get a thinkpad...im thinkin no...i mean...the thinkpad looks BAD and its poorly built...dell is quality. i dont like the way this thing looks...its just ugly to me. i like glossy finish laptops with glossy screens.

  • If you don't like the way that it looks, so be it...BUT Thinkpad's quality is FAR superior to Dell...ANY day. Do a little research if you are fighting to get a Dell. Stay away from the Inspirons...

  • Alright... old comment, but I'm going to chime in. Nearly every laptop I have owned has been a Thinkpad, other than a couple of Dell XPS machines(I currently have an M1730 and several Thinkpads). Build quality, etc. on the Thinkpads is FAR better, and they will withstand a lot more abuse. I game on the M1730... I WORK on my T60.

  • @crazyzeldakid yes think pads are not glossy. but thinkpads are the best biuld laptops in the world. there ment to look plain black and boxy. there busniess laptops and most thinkpads have built in roll cages and are ment to be beated around. if you drop your dell your screwed. you drop a think pad you pick it back up and keep working. A top end think pad willl cost you more that virtually any lappy in the world. upto 10g depending on the thinkpad model.. the t61 is a 2100-1500 lappy. new.

  • @crazyzeldakid Dellls quality sucks my left nut. Thinkpads are the way to go.

  • @crazyzeldakid Dell has to be THE worst computer manufacturer on the planet. Apart from Gateway. Dells are NOT quality. Dells are built very poorly and the monitor hinges will ALWAYS break. Thinkpad has GREAT specs and one of the reason they arent so popular is because they aren't so flashy-looking. Glossy screens are bad because it increases glare from any and all lighting. The T61 is amazingly built.

  • @crazyzeldakid I hope you listened to your father.

  • @crazyzeldakid lol get a dell precision like mine core i7 m820 12gb 128gb ssd 500gb hdd :) 1gb ati firepro m7740

  • Warning: t61's have a FACTORY DEFECT concerning the FAN. Mine rattles so loud that you can hear it downstairs, and unfortunately this occurred after the warranty expired.

  • Just because the fan died, doesn't mean that it is a factory defect. Factory Defect would mean that it came from the factory with this problem.

Granted my fan just died, after two years, and only started to rattle just before it died, but again that doesn't make it a factory defect. I can tell you that the Thinkpad forum isn't flooded with posts about the fan... Besides, the fan is easy and cheap to replace...it could have been a motherboard issue...

  • I have this laptop and i dont like it

the battery life is too short

  • great video! but how did you get the i1400 running Windows XP? I'm having trouble just getting it to run Xubuntu Linux..

  • 9:58

  • AHHHH, gotcha!! I haven't watched the video in a while...lol

  • bye bye now haaaa

  • What is the point of your comment? Someone marked it as spam...

  • Ive got the new IBM T61 with the camera, its a bit thinner this one aswell. Its amazing! but now i dont know what to do with the IBM x300! ??

  • The new T400 seems to be worse than the old dude T61, may be because of weak plastic case and flex problem on T400 keyboard. I really LOVE T61.

  • why did you change the red rubber button to another identical one if i may ask? is it different?

  • The trackpoint caps are different. The original one was the flat one, and the one that I put on was the rounded one that feels like a cat's tongue...

  • I also have an R40 and I got rid of my T43 and R51 because the R40 is much more quiet and temperature cool.

I cant stand high pitched fan noise.

We you be so kind as to tell me how the noise stacks up between the t61 and the R40? Your best description is appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • ibms kick ass. had mine forever and i cant find myself to buy anything else. even made a custom gui for windows. check it out if u want

  • Good stuff, I just ordered a tricked out Lenovo T500, can't wait!

  • And I have got one more question. What display do you have? I dont mean the resolution, but if WXGA or the others :D

  • Do you think the quality has gone down since the Thinkpad brand was acquired by a Chinese company?

  • ABSOLUTELY NOT! Furthermore, what does the company that bought out the IBM PC division have ANYTHING to do with the fact that they are Chinese?!?!?

  • When it happened, a lot of people were dismayed by the fact that it's a Chinese company and not a Japanese one. Chinese products are generally lower quality as compared to Japanese ones, but you may disagree with me on that one. From what I hear, Lenovo is doing a pretty good job at not letting the Thinkpad brand go down into the pits of mediocrity. My last Thinkpad was an IBM A31 and I'm thinking of getting a Lenovo. I don't want a drop in substance, since they're still relatively expensive.

  • OK, I am glad to see that that was a legitimate question. I am so tired of people chiming in over the "Chinese" purchase, as a means of bashing them. I apologize if I came off as abrasive...its my "Sunday mood"...lol

As for the quality, I am VERY happy with my T61, and I too, feel that they have done a pretty good job of trying to keep up the IBM standards...

  • does anyone know why the t61 screen is off-center?

  • It is because of the antenna on the left hand side. Poor placement, as far as I am concerned...

  • The screen looks super-bright and the viewing angles are great. Must be great for movies.

  • It is pretty good for movies, and tv shows...

  • Peel it

  • Hey mate, I was just wondering. You have got the Thinkpad that is IBM written on it. But I saw couple of thinkpads that there was just written Thinkpad. so how did you get that model? Did you choose it to be IBM written on it, or what?

  • I have one of the last T61 models that came with the IBM logo. Since Lenovo bought out IBM several years ago, they have been slowly switching the logos from IBM to Thinkpad. I believe that ALL new models only have the Thinkpad Logo...

  • Damn, only thing left for me, is to believe, that there is still one model with good old IBM logo for me

  • You can just buy an IBM ThinkPad sticker on eBay.

  • Yeah, but how will I will tear Thinkpad logo out of there without making any tracks?

  • The case is relatively scratch resistant. You can easily do this with an exacto knife.

  • Lenovo didn't "buy out" IBM. IBM sold their PC (personal computer) market to Lenovo for IBM is more focused on businesses and server side then consumers. IBM actually has a close to 20% ownership of Lenovo.

  • Correct, IBM wasn't bought out, they sold off their PC Division to Lenovo...I was just being lazy in my response...

  • Okay, I changed my mind. Im ACTUALLY getting a Thinkpad in about 2 weeks! I was gonna get a T40 for $450, but for $575 I can get a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i! The only bad thing is that the T40 is thin and stuff. But the R61 is Factory Refurbished, etc... I can't wait!

  • I used to have t23 for the long time, for 1 year it's t40, now I'm ordering t61.

    I AM A BIG FAN :)

  • i just ordered a t61, the prices have dramatically fell since the release of the new t400/t500

  • I got a T61 since last year.

Something I really want to say is I really don't see the point of changing the top cover from magnesium alloyed to the so called screen roll cage (i.e. Metal plate with plastic wrap) which is much thicker, heavier and uglyer. The top cover is actually not flat but curved. It feels like there is a huge bubble in the screen.

btw, mine T61's backlight burned out within the first week of purchase.

LENOVO, you need to do better.

  • @992734

why is it that when ever I look up something relating to a lenovo think pad I see this EXACT post (or the equivalent) about how your T61 "died" right after the warranty died and such?

  • So I received my Lenovo. Its phenomenal. Its a freakin tank.

  • They really are...maybe they should have called them the ThinkShermans...lol

  • Loved it! 5 stars! Can't wait to get my IBm Thinkpad T40!

  • Thanks! The T40 is a great machine...you should be quite happy!! Just be careful with lifting it...use two hands. The T40-T42 had issues with the GPU coming loose, due to flexing of the systemboard...

  • lol. I like playing it safe, so should I get like a T43? Maybe this won't happen with the T43!

  • Well, every laptop has some issue that tends to rise, but it is a matter of how common and easy it is to fix. The T40 is an excellent machine, and there is a pretty big gap in the price range between it and the T43. As long as you are careful with it, it should be ok.

  • True, laptops are more fragile than desktops...

The R series may be more sturdy, becasue it is thick and bulky. I do love the T40 though.

  • My T43 just died on Aug 2nd exactly 5 hours after the 3 year warranty. Not really dead but I just can't move it at all. It will freeze if I move it, even very very gently.

Called lenovo, they said they can't help.

  • Wow! Talk about irony! If you take a hair dryer to the motherboard you can fix it.

  • You mean this video? Should I do this?

    /watch?v=vR8L3B3eDr0

My T43 has the same problem.

    Called Lenovo again today.

Evil lenovo try to set me on a one year extended warranty for 200 bucks.

    Should I do it?

  • 992734: Hi. Depending on how much a new laptop costs, it may be better to buy a new one.

    Love & blessings:)

  • Your enthusiasm is certainly infectious. I dont know whether to settle for T61 or wait for the imminent thinkpad line update though...

  • Anyone used the HP NC6000? I don't know wether to get an IBM Thinkpad T40 or HP NC6000. The IBM is $10 more than the HP, so I don't know what to get!

  • Personally, I prefer IBM/Lenovo. Their computers have top build quality and is likely to last longer than the competition.

  • Thanks for the reply :-) I am leaning towards the IBM. But the HP does seem like a viable option.

  • Ordered a T61 a week ago. I ordered it with the XP system, so its compatible with all my software. Can't wait.

Lenovo seems to have the most sturdy laptops on the market.

  • Without a doubt, they are the sturdiest laptops that I have seen...aside from the Panasonic Toughbook of course, which is built with that sole purpose...

  • its great for clumssy people. i spill gatorade on my keyboard and it still works. Thank god for drain holes. but my keys are pretty sticky now lol

  • If you remove the keyboard, you may be able to wash it off, and let it sit to dry out, to get rid of the stickiness.

  • super durable

  • Absolutely!!

  • i am extremely jealous

  • Will Windows XP run on 365XD?

  • install a 64mb ram and will run

  • Are you sure? You have the same laptop? If it will work it must be slow, anyways it would be still cool. :D

  • do they sell it in 14" or 15"???

  • they sell it in 14.1, 15.4 inch widescreen and 14 inch standard

  • man just go to the point!

That video could have been 2 minutes long!

Beside why is that we have to keep watching your face.

The star is the T61...NOT YOU!

  • Blah, blah, blah...its my video, I can do it however I want.

Besides, I actually did this video for a select few friends...I had no idea that it would have THIS many views...

  • 1GB ethernet? WOW!

Anyway i have old IBM thinkpad.

Model is Thinkpad 365XD and i can play worms2 on it xD.

  • I have a 365XD...its a nice machine, and was pretty expensive in its day...

  • very helpful vid man. just wanted to say I like the simple look of the thinkpad laptops and the trackpoint is something I cant live without. Im about to buy a T61p. I was wondering now that its been about a year hows it holding up? I want a laptop thats reliable cause im a college student and need to take it wit me everywhere.

  • Thanks! I would definately recommend it. I have gone from using this T61 for a work project, to it being my daily driver because it feel good... Aside from the initial Vista issues, which have common "fixes", this machine has been incredible...

  • Nice vid!

  • Thanks!

  • good lappy, I have lenovo too, the ideapad, they are a good laptop manufacturer! :)

  • lol fat ass

  • I'd rather be a fatass, than a dumbass like you...

Check out the comments on this guy's page...all he does is go around and leave crap...

  • that's because your fat rolls are restricting your brain's supply of blood. you are a bloated mockery of the human form

  • Fat rolls? Give me f-n break, and get the F off of my channel, loser

  • You're an idiot, that vidoe could have been 20 second long.

  • Um, yeah...ok

I didn't make you watch it...

  • Sorry, but I dislike this video. You spent well over 2 and a half minutes explaining to us exactly what the title says, this is you opening your new T61. If you waste time that well at work, I'm surprised you still have a job.

  • Well, I'm sorry that you disliked it. I'll be glad to offer you a full refund...

Maybe I should make my videos more like your "2" short videos that show really nothing....ok, thanks!!

  • Sorry.. I really am, you look very similar to someone I really don't get along with, and your video bugged me because I would rather see the laptop than you talking about it. I didn't mean to offend you (at least not that much), just some slightly harsh constructive criticism. You're welcome to ignore it, but in doing so, you would be ignoring good advice.

  • Finally, at least I am not am not standing in front of the camera explaining exactly what the title says for the majority of any of my videos. In fact, if you can find a video with my face in it, I'd be surprised, because there aren't any. I am not what some people call a camera whore.

  • I want this one.

No, no, I want this one, AND the X300.

No. I would have a hybrid of them both.

    Btw, peel it. :)

  • nice, but it lacks on good looks, lacks on specs, and lacks on performance.

apple macbook pro 15 inch has the looks, the performance, is thinner, lighter, and it runs xp or vista fine.

i think these ibm looks so old?

  • Well, it depends on what your needs are. These were business class machines. With a business class machines, you don't want them to be flashy. That makes them more desirable for theft. As for specs, it has exactly what I need. If your into heavy design or video work, then a Thinkpad isn't for you. Again, it is a business class machine...and a VERY durable one at that.

  • yeah. ibm lacks all form of appealing design and look the same as when laptops first came out

  • @dwdrummer: you got that right. And even more weird: it is their choice.

durable and good looks have to be possible!

  • But the point is that if it works, why change it? I can tell a Thinkpad from any other laptop at a distance. They are easy to work on, and known to run almost forever. I have 3 Thinkpads from 1995 that are still running strong...

  • i dont have anything against the laptops and true u can always tell them apart. im just saying they dont warrant any attention cause theyre just boxes.

  • Yes, they are just "boxes", but they are less likely to be stolen than the shiny Dell or Mac Book Pro sitting next to it. As I stated before, these are (well, they were...) business class laptops. It is only over the past few years that Lenovo has started branching out to Joe Public.

  • yeah true. thats a good point

  • Not half as retarded as you are...

  • you are one enthusiastic nerd, if you catch my drift. ;)

  • Yep, and I am quite proud of it....though, I do prefer the term geek...

  • For the record, I gave you 5-stars for your star-like performance in the comparison. I wanted to know if you could help me decide between an x-series and a t-series. What would be the best way to speak to you about this? Thanks

  • oh, sorry. geek. :)

  • Wow, delayed response...lol

    Peace out!

  • no no, just discovered that i have this inbox-kinda thingy on yt. :)

  • Do you know how much longer the battery life with the 6-cell is compared to the 4-cell? I'm considering buying this notebook, but I don't want to have the battery protruding.

  • I hate how the T61's screen isn't centered. Also, the 6-cell battery protruding doesn't seem right to me :/

  • I don't even notice the fact that it is off centered anymore. I thought that it would bother me, because I noticed it right off the bat...but nowadays, I don't even notice...

As for the battery, it sits in the back and I don't see it. I don't like it sticking out when I go to put the laptop in my back, though. I am used to putting my laptops in backside down, but in this case it would ruin to battery connections, so I am forced to put the laptop in front LCD lid facing down.

  • nice T61, how much do they weigh ? .....I have a thinkpad now but its from late 2005 and its heavy ....btw how much does the R40 weigh ?

  • I haven't actually weighed them myself, but according to "tabook", the T61 is about 5.3lbs, and according to "trwbook" the R40 is 6.0-6.1lbs. I can feel a definate difference between them... What model Thinkpad do you have?

  • my Thinkpad is a R50, is it possible to have a newer thinkpad without the protruding battery mentioned above ?

  • ermm...... whats that red button like think on the keyboard?

  • GASP!!! That is the trackpoint. The trackpoint is a DEAD giveaway that it is a Thinkpad. I believe they evven trademarked the red trackpoint cover. Dell and Toshiba have used blue and grey...

  • sigh, I guess I can only get one with the thinkpad logo on for now.

I really miss the IBM sign

  • Well, if it matters, the quality is still there. I feel that that is the most important thing...even if they painted them with polka dots...lol

  • I guess you are right!

  • I see the IBM sign!

  • Yeah, it is one of the last models with the IBM logo...

  • I got my T61p finally a few days ago. It actually shipped within 6 days! I was really impressed. This is a monster of a machine. T9300 processor 3gig ram, 1 gig turbo memory, nvidia quadro fx 540m. It runs vista like it's nothing, it runs call of duty 4 with WSXGA+ resolution like nothing.

It's one of THE best laptops I've ever seen =]

    I LOVE vista.

I don't see why people don't like vista. You just really need to buy a new computer for it.

  • We have T61's at our school with insurance that replaces your laptop if its broken in the next 24 hours. So if a new model comes out all the students laptops suddenly break... :P

  • Is it easy to upgrade the ram on the t61 or do you have to go with several screws and procedures to upgade. Also, nive video it helped me to decide to purchase the t61.

  • Thinkpads r wank nuff said

  • is it? which do u recommend then?

  • Oh actually I have a question, is that an LG or samsung screen? The screen looks REALLY nice. I have an r51 and well, I just ordered a t61p. :S

  • Lmao

It's like a porno! But with thinkpads!

    Great video man =]

  • Isn't it though!?!? 8-P

  • I want a Thinkpad, but those things are too damn expensive in Norway, a customized one from the States would be cheaper even after the toll. Would love one with Linux on it. And the American keyboard would make it easier to code on rather than the shitty Norwegian keyboard.

  • Sounda like it is time to find a distant relative in the US, or call in a favor. A lot of people will have others in the US buy Thinkpads and ship them out.

  • which one is better, T61 or X61 ?

  • It depends on your needs. The X61 is smaller and lighter. There is no optical drive built in...you have to use the base or external drive. The T61 is heavier and larger, and have a built in optical drive. A lot of people prefer the X series over the T series for portatbility. Personally, I like the T series, because I use my optical drive quite often....though less and less with the use of my jump drives...

Power wise, they are pretty much the same...

  • Thanks!

  • Hey! Figured I'd let you know, since it has "61" in it...

I just got a Z61t! it's actually in really crappy condition, I need to tighten the hinges at some point.

BUT.... anything with a titanium lid, TrackPoint, and a Thinkpad keyboard is perfectly fine in my book!

  • Nice video... just grabbed the same laptop today and it's GREAT! except for vista... hate it so much already

  • Yeah, Vista took a little tweaking, but now its running just fine. I downloaded SP1 over the weekend, and things still seem to be running smooth...

  • Im realy concerned with the screen quality, can anyone tell me how good it is please, because I want to buy one before the offer ends.

  • I am quite happy with my screen...

  • you are acting like a star! haha

I am also gonna have my own T61, baddy!

    Hey, i am excited!

  • thinkpads rules

  • Thats because I don't really care about that.

Yet, despite that, I'll bet that I can build circles around you on most any Thinkpad...

  • haha You can't even spell "doesn't" right, who are you to criticize him?

  • I'm pretty much set on getting me a 14 inches T61. Here's a question: what's your take on Vista operating system? A lot of people are telling me to stick to XP operating system. And I might just do that, but I'm just curious about your take on this.

  • Vista takes a little getting used to. It certainly needs to be tweaked, but I still like it. Granted, I still prefer XP.

  • vista has too many too many bugs... it's crazy! Despite it's nice look, it just cannot compare with xp...

  • I think that that really depends on the end user. I have a friend of mine that absolutely LOVES Vista, because he supposedly can do many things that he couldn't before. He is the same one that helped me tweak my version of Vista, so that I could keep on plugging away on it...

  • how much did you pay for it?

  • I don't know what the cost was, because it was part of a project that I am/was working on with a partner...

  • @Torontoguyy

At first I have to apologize. I totally misunderstood you. I thought you talk to maddmaddworld because YouTube didn't show it right that it was an answer to soldiersucker. It was actuallized and corrected a few hours later after i made my posts to you.

So I am really sorry, was just a misunderstanding. Peace ^^

P.S.: I think I am going to buy a T61. At first i wanted a T60 because of the FlexView display. But as I saw the T61 screen it was a good display too.
