Just wanted to point out a few things...

You can just click, 'Reshow Gaussian Blur' its quicker... also... You could click 'Merge All Visible Layers' instead of each one individually.. its saves time.

gimp 2.6.6 has a function to make banners in create. It is much easier than what you did merging and all that. Nice tutorial just letting you know there is a much easier way.
