  • I think this is awesome and I love the cross banter

  • Roger Waters was a fuckin' nerd!!!

  • Who's that guy at the start? Oh yeah nobody gives a shit. Let's listen to some Floyd.

  • Well, the history of Pink Floyd has gone on to prove Hans Keller entirely wrong and make him look like an absurd, pompous idiot. Music is much louder today than it ever was in a BBC studio in 1967, Hans! Guess you should have stayed with your 'string quartet.'

  • I've seen this many times over the years and it still blows my mind like the 1st time.

  • lol fuck you mustache guy

  • I am french and i am surprised to listen this Keller saying what he says, He can't know that this group will change the world of youngs'music for a generation and now it's ever referential

  • happy birthday Syd

  • Waters & Barrett confound Snooty Mustache Man! Love it!

  • Hans is a smoking Capston and talking a load of crap.

  • Excellent great to see this after all these years. Pompous prick springs to mind for Kellers comments. I though when I originally saw this on look of the week. Happy days :)

  • if Keller would have simply said "it's beyond me" but instead he is compelled to appear to understand what the band was doing. I also think Waters and Barrett were incredibly restrained with the interviwer's condescending attitude. And wouldn't have blamed them at all to tell Keller to piss off.

  • Am I the only one who wants to punch Hans Keller in the face?...lol

  • "I don't want to prejudice you, I'll let you decide for yourself" Hans says - but the points he makes clearly are prejudiced before the viewer even heard any of it.

  • Hans' disdain is quite English. Polite air of superiority. Ironic, don't you think, that now his only claim to fame is this clip, riding on the coattails of "this regression to childhood," while Pink Floyd is now nearly immortal. UMMAGUMMA, HANS!

  • @wasRIOnowWSO I think I need to inform you that Hans Keller , despite his typical English name and face ,is not English------(!!!)--and without any shadow of a doubt the man is/was a gigantic prick!---

  • Hans was off the mark even back then, because it had to be loud because bands like the beatles where strugling to be heard with all the screaming...loud stadium rock was the way forward....any fool could see that.

  • SCHNOOKUMKANOOTERFORMUNDABLIXXGORTONGARTENVAANDEERSCHMOOKS

  • Syd was the Monet of music!!!

  • Let me get this straight: Groucho Marx doesn't like Pink Floyd because

    1. Their use of repetition-driven noise is boring.

    2. They're too loud.

    3. They're extremely unskilled at music.

    4. They have an audience (wait, that's a good point).

And then this guy shat himself when he heard John Peel hawk this new noisy, seemingly unskilled, and loud record by this American dude who thought he could sing like Howlin' Wolf.

  • I don't agree with Hans either but he was well respected as a musicologist and as a music critic.

  • @seitzmateo Well respected amongst idiots that is !!! You just shat yourself oops 0 0 0 0

  • hey Hans! go die of lung cancer dick head!

  • any band who gets such an introduction must be awesome right!

  • Fantastic find! Thanks for sharing.

  • I agree with Hans, this "music" is just loud rubbish and I much prefer to listen to the string quartet.

  • Keller you are a condescending Jackass, and would not know genius if it slapped you in the face. Which I will further add looks like you already got hit in the face with a frying pan anyways!

  • God I am in HEAVEN!!!!!!!

and Syd is an angel of course

don't diss Hans, tho--- he is entitled to his opinions, and he is/was a nice man I am sure

NAMASTE :) and bless you for uploading this

  • Hans Keller what a wanker!

  • guy is pretty stupid, repetition is quite common in rock music, without it the song sounds without direction.

  • just great ! unrepeatable

    love them

  • The interviewer is a condescending cocksucker; hopefully the smokes took care of him a bit later on ...

  • But vhy does it have to be so loud?

  • Hans Keller said it's not good music, because it's continious repetition...

I think he became a big Pink Floyd Fan, when Atom Heart Mother or Echoes Came Out! :D

  • Demean Hans Keller for his opinions as you will, but his attitude isn't something that's long forgotten... Anyone who's ever criticised the current music scene and complained that Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga are nothing compared to older bands like Pink Floyd should know what I'm talking about.

  • Oh lawdy that was amazing <3

  • @Ecstatic2Ecstasy Too bad the resolution on this wasn't better, because, without any doubt, this is the best clip you're ever going to see of Syd Barrett. Astronomy Domine, a masterpiece no two f'n ways about it!

  • "I don't wanna prejudice you" but here is a few reasons why i think they suck.... what a jerk..

  • What psycho-babble bullshit the geezer offered as an "analysis"! The Floyd was so far ahead of their time that the pundits couldn't process it. This music has stood the test of time. Thanks for posting this classic!

  • jaja, funy

  • yeah i agree with the interviewer, this group is never going to go anywhere

  • @taylorbortnerathing jajaj, sarcastic?

  • Boring and Loud?? you sir are a fool!!!!!!!

  • whats the first sound thingy?

  • @Ukabumba song*****

  • great to see the complete clip after all these years...was this lifted from the latest Harvested comp ?

  • @mineheadX1

    What does Harvested comp mean?

I got this from a reliable musician source who collected many odds & ends.

  • @KroMagnum60 Harvested is generally regarded as the "premier" obtainer of Floyd rarities of audio & video...visit their website (harvested org) or join yeeshkul for the best and most comprehensive site for Pink Floyd collecting...

  • @mineheadX1 What is that "Harvested comp"?

  • @siouxie921 Harvested is generally regarded as the "premier" obtainer of Floyd rarities of audio & video...visit their website (harvested org) or join yeeshkul for the best and most comprehensive site for Pink Floyd collecting...they have recently compiled a new 5 dvd compilation of almost all Floyd video from '66-'83.

  • Too loud?!?!?? This man should interview a black metal band :S xD

  • @crashed2ice21 He probably would have if there were any back in 1967. ;-)

  • @Jackle61 Of course there wasn't any my friend

  • @crashed2ice21 Yes, but in 3 years time four guys from a town called Birmingham would release an album with a song called Black Sabbath and Heavy Metal would be born. I wonder what Mr. Keller might have thought then...

  • the interviewer is a complete twit!

  • 6665iqwwwwrjtttrwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwjjjjwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww6666666666666666666665555555hhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddddddddddd

  • As a Pittman, I'm ashamed they were taking flack in the press from 'Robert Pittman' (which by coincidence is my dad's name) I assure you, Pink Floyd, not all Pittman's are bad, and my dad and I love you guys dearly.

  • RIP Syd and Rick

You're still alive in our hearts

  • This band still pisses over any of todays fake bands!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excelent.

  • If only Hans would talk about, say, Dark Side of the Moon (It involves a greater tier of musicianship)

  • OMG! Has Syd Barrett ever looked more gorgeous?

  • OMG! Has Syd Barrett ever looked more gorgeous.

    Syd forever, indeed.

  • POP GROUP????????? WTF!!!!!!

  • @UFO9526

pop means popular and popular music its Rock;folk and many genres...

  • SYD BARRETT!

  • That old mustached bitch Hans Keller, complaining about them- har! They were quite respectful to him. I wonder what old Hans would have done if he heard The Cramps, the DKs etc.

  • That old mustached bitch complaining about them- har!

  • !!!they were soooo beutiful

thank you very much for uploading that stream

  • lol.. people thought that smoking was healthy xD

  • Magical, enchanting, spellbinding stuff.

  • Doctor Sigmund Freud interviews Syd Barrett!

  • Doctor Sigmund Freud interviews Syd Barrett!

  • Frankly there was a time when Pink floyed were discovering themselves there voices there craziness and sharing that with the audiance. they added things over things with time and evoluated from worse to the best in any aspect in the music industry, best music material best sound

But in the beginning we should all agree some of there music published had a lot of out of tune agressive screaming and loudness that if they were to do it again they

    would do it differently.

    latley became the best

  • Hans Keller is my favorit!

  • lol if he thought floyd was loud wonder what he thought when he heard zeppelin or sabbath lmao

  • The old fart is right, this band will never make it!!!

  • at 6:52 roger waters thinks "what a douche"

  • whats the song in the begining

  • @xXBlinDXx12

    It's Pow R Toc H

  • @doodapgingerale thank ytou man i appreciate it very much

  • The guy is an arsehole. But the group is awesome.

  • RIP Syd...

  • No words can describe how beautiful Syd is! I actually do like the interviewer though; I certainly disagree with his comments, but I find it infinitely more intersting to hear some debate and criticism rather than the usual ass-licking that we get nowadays. I still had to laugh at that interviewer ! I like how he invites the public to place its own verdict; this means that Hans Keller treats Pink Floyd with genuine consideration as a serious music group. Priceless clip!

  • @Dandelionblowaway Seriously, I saw this clip and, literally, fell in LOVE! Having grown up w/ post Barrett Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here), all I can say is I was blind and now I can see.

    Syd Barrett - OMG!

  • Errare humanum est, Hans... Only that you were not human, you were a Troll.

  • @Alejoint73:Because of his strange pronunciation i even guess that he´s German...OMG...he speaks fault with a th at the end,I wonder what he was hustling in the BBC.If he thought PInk Floyd were loud he should have endured My Bloody Valentine -whom i really like- but i was almost deaf for 3 days after their Cologne concert in1993.He should have also waited till Floyds"Atom Heart Mother"(1970)which featured not only a string quartet but a whole classical orchestra+was more"serious"music than pop!

  • And almost 45 years later, here we are, now whats your oppinion Hans....ohh wait you still alive? hahahahahha

  • hans keller the kind of insignificant fucks that the TV and the media transform into celebs

now we are surrounded by this shallow shit !!

  • he is an arrogant ausrian jew

  • what an arsehole introducing this?

  • i dont think he is an asshole he dont likes it and he says that may be its his fault i mean he youst sad that he as a person do not likes this kind of music and he also says that other people do like this music and i like how he says that hear tham out before you joudge them and in a time where moast of the people were not use to this kind of music i think its nice from him.

  • @chotchcas What happened to it? I read Syd traded it for his black Telecaster, but it seems to have disappeared...

  • Comment removed

  • Well on facebook the hans keller page has 15 likes, and the Pink Floyd page has about 9.5 likes so whos music is a regression into childhood now hans keller?

  • @penguinator100 9.5 million likes sorry

  • hans keller is a stupid anglo-kike

  • geniuuusss!!!!!!!!!! :) the best!!!!

  • A string quartet did some covers for Pink Floyd. These are available on youtube. Watching these on youtube it was as if it would've sounded as if Hans Keller had covered them.

  • This critic is quite the snob trying to use self deprecation to slam the band. Alas, Pink Floyd had the last laught, didn't they?

  • check out rollseyes at 1.53. Hans you're hilarious.

  • When was this, cause syd seems completely normal

  • Only FLOYD overcomes all idiots´opinions!

  • comparing floyd to a string quartet is like comparing "Apples and Oranges". I still can't get over the arrogance. Almost like a Bill O'Reilly interview. Would've like to see hans in a G-string quartet, think he would look like Borat

"we met just six hours ago, the music was too loud!'

  • what did hans know of the pink floyd's talent? I find that string music can be quite loud and has also been used in psychedelia as well as numerous soundtracks before and after. This is long before Atom Heart Mother, of course. Volume has nothing to do with talent it but distortion and recording quality (which I think floyd was grossly cheated out of in early stuff) It's more of a technological problem.

What I can't understand is that you can't dance to pink floyd but you can to string

  • ultimate killer jazz - a cacophany of brilliant!

  • What does the Yid know?

  • that old dude in the beginning can suck a fat one

  • that old guy in the beginning can suck it

  • What a Nazi! I detect some bitterness. Even Syd is more lucid and cogent than Hans. And what's all this about shock treatment? This is certainly a good example of the changes at the time. Does he think that exposure to Pink Floyd was some sort of an atrocity that should have been used in concentration camps? I'm so there! The music is so good even in its primitive form

  • i am honestly way more interested in the 30 seconds of Pow. R. Toch. its certainly way more interesting than astronomy domine, both the improv and the chord progressions

  • Kick ass intro!

  • thnk this comes at a time when older people could not understand or relate to rock and so tended to look down on it and were condescending towards its musicians. it wasn't taken seriously. why send him ot interview them if he hates the music or doesn't understand it. this is different from not liking this band or song. it seems he doesn't like rock period. like sending someone to review an opera who hates it.

  • Quite a polite and intelligent 'debate' from both sides, better than the sychophantic interviews of today Old Keller even asks permission to use an 'American' word ~ Wow!. Actually this is just school debating society stuff which Syd and Roger would have been familiar with. Suspect Keller knew they were destined for the big time. "Grown up in the string quartet"? ~ Interesting homelife

  • hans looks like zappas retarded brother

  • "Why has it all got to be so terribly loud?"

Oh that's obvious... this was long before distortion pedals and before "master volume'" controls. Maxing out the amp was the only know way to play heavy metal in 1967.

  • 8.11 look at Syd's face. the genius. the madcap.

  • Holy fck sht. Roger.

  • Barrett was a fabulous guitar player!

  • ''they're terrible loud'' Thats a compliment

  • i love how that dude at the beginning basically says they suck. HA. now i don't want to prejudice you...

  • Fabulous video!

  • Calling Hans an asshole is an insult to assholes

  • This is ...wow. I was born in 65 so of course have no idea of what was happening back then, but it is so cool to see that someone took the time to record it. I LOVE this "OLD" stuff!!!

  • Hans Keller sound(ed) like any typical numbnutz that writes for the entertainment section of a newspaper.

  • Wow- Keller obviously didn't listen to the whole album. There are just as many "soft" songs as loud. Also, the brilliant Syd Barret composed very intricate pieces with well thought out counterpoint progressions and pitch oscillations. This particular song is one of the "loud" ones. However, Beethoven enjoyed "loud" and "violent" themes in his compositions. I'm just saying...

  • @qoph29

    agree

  • bomm bomm ttch tch

  • damn hans you got a big nose

  • @bojanks15 cause he's a jew

  • Hans Keller looks like a meth addict..lmao "it's too loud" I think he's just too old.. And maybe the veins bulging out of his head were keeping him from taking in what great music that was being presented.. Also he says he's "too much of a musician" is there such a thing? beingtoo much of a musician.. and by the way, what music did he ever make? where are his albums? just throwing that out there..

  • nowadays they wouldn't allow him to smoke on camera:)

  • I love you Syd! You're the BEST!!!

  • Awesome video. I came on here looking for live footage of Syd Barrett playing with Pink Floyd. The video I watched right before this one was Astronomy Domine 1968 and it's so sad. Syd seem pretty stable here, doing his thing playing with Floyd. Then skip to one year later (search the 1968 live version) and he's sadly lumbering in the back ground watching his former band and david play the song he written. He had to be kicked, the band hand to think about their own future, but it's sad. R.I.P

  • Syd Barrett Forever!

  • Brilliant and iconic footage ; who would have thought how historic this would become when it just seemed some freaky obscurity or odd gimmick item for many people to laugh and discriminate at

  • What a stuffy pompous windbag you are Hans Keller!

  • @lush89 youre only saying that cos u think its trendy to and get a pat on the back from other Floyd fans who want to say the same for the sake of it

  • hans is being a bit rude

  • To be honest I was about to get laid into Hans Keller here, but after reading a few comments I have come to (kinda) respect him.

I agree that it's better to give the band an intelligent grilling rather than kiss their arses, that way they can defend themselves and show the audience how much they love what they do.

Hans was still a dick for saying "I won't prejudice your opinion" then going on to blast out why he disliked them!

  • Wow, this song sounds amazing live! Barrett's guitar playing is beautiful!

  • @sharingfeelings LOL It certaintly looks like it!

  • I prefer this to modern interviewers who just sit and inflate crap musicians' egos by complementing them and treating them like gods. It's nice to see someone who challenges musicians so they have to explain their intentions and musical direction. I like this interview alot actually.

  • @genesisrock43 Damn right ; agree with you totally

  • thanks!, first time I've seen this in its entirety.

Old Hans Keller is definitely not the worst interviewer from this time on British television.

& he does almost say, 'what do i know?'.

From my childhood, i remember some who really did grate and annoy me with their blinkered attitudes, this is not that bad and they give as well as take.

All in all, very exciting, and a treat to see and hear 'Pink Floyd 1' my personal favorite line up of the band.

  • Hahahah "Have you encountered any hostility towards your creation ?" Uh yah, from you buddy.

  • I know why its not loud to them and its not loud to me either

You have to listen to it on LSD

every time Im on LSD I listen to the piper at the gates of dawn and theirs songs sound way different

    they dont sound "LOUD"

Thats what i think makes Syd a genius

He knew about the other reality of music.

  • Amazing footage for the die-hard Floyd fan! A nice live performance of anything with Syd is a real treasure, and they did a great run through of AD. Yeah, Hans comes off like a jerk, but at least it was not some scripted BS like talk shows today. He didn't like it, and he clearly stated why. But he was civil to Roger and Syd, and I thought they held their own under fire pretty well. Thanks for uploading!

  • I didn't pay attn. to the announcer but the PF video took my breath away. Awesome!

  • If I may first turn to 'r'oger' who lol

  • A classic example of the generarion gap. Unlike today's TV heads... Hans respectfully disagrees and admits the failing might be his own.

Say what you want, but that's how smart and classy people behave.

  • Comment removed

  • lol this guy obviously doesn't know shit about music.

  • Sorry to the people who will hate me for this, but the second guy(dont know his name)( has a point: their early stuff was very repetitive compared to their Waters Era music. And they were overtly experimental and weird and I can see how it wouldn't appeal to a lot of people.

  • @Grunge00125 i kind of agree in a way. piper at the gates of dawn is one of my favorite albums of all time. my dad also like pink floyd but he doesnt like this album at all cause songs like "Flaming" for example have no beat to it. i particularly love that song but i see how people wouldnt like it.

  • Awesome. If I was tripping at this show I would probably be bugging out....

  • and what did hans keller accomplish in his life time compared to pink floyd? case closed. boom, roasted

  • when I first listened to Astronomy Domine it blew me away, i never properly heard Pink Floyd or any kind of music like it, i was instantly hooked. Now i listen to psychadelic and prog rock all the time, so this song probably changed my life for the better

  • Games for Keller.

  • I really love this performance

but let Hans Keller talk, the fact that some young people are listining this today, says that this is very good and interesting music!

  • If this weirdo had tried this with a punk band all he would have got was "Fuck off you pretentious old git !"

  • Yeah, I bet Ole' Hans never expected somebody equally as smug, sharp, intellectual and passive/aggressive as himself. Well done Roger.

  • "...continuous repetition and porportionatly they are a bit boring..."

Yea, those crazy kids are losers...where is Tommy Dorsey when you need him...

    STFU Dad...

  • This is probably the most amusing intro I have ever seen to setup a live TV performance.

  • This truly epitomizes Avant-gard music at its best! Syd was a genius!

  • Hans seems like straight from a Kubrick movie... good role for Sellars maybe :D

  • Watch the new video about Pink Floyd:

    [Youtube] /watch?v=umPJZMs_2XE

  • syd is a really under rated guitarist this song is one hell of sound scape

  • 1- Hans is an asshole, 2- Pink Floyd is one of the greatest bands i've ever heard!
