I remember all of the game shows that ran on USA at the time including "Scrabble", the "$25,000" and the "$100,000 Pyramids", "Name That Tune", "Press Your Luck", "Hollywood Squares" (John Davidson version) and many more. That brings back memories. I missed them all.
That promo was used in September 1991, when Scrabble bowed on USA. The clip in the promo is from the Fall 1986 All-American $100K Scrabble tournament, which USA began its airing of Scrabble with. TV Guide reported in Fall 1991 that Scrabble would be bowing on USA that Fall, hosted by Steve Edwards(who hosted a 1990 syndicated pilot for Scrabble)
@DorvellTStewart yes, Scrabble did air after Press Your Luck from sometime in either '91 or '92 until 1995 when USA stopped carrying game shows. I used to have a whole schedule from 1992 or early '93 on tape before my crazy dad recorded over it. I remember the line-up started w/ Sale of the Century (until 1993 when Talkabout came on the line-up) then Win, Lose or Draw, and then Hollywood Squares, and PYL, Scrabble, and the (New) $25K and Clark $100K Pyramids.
THis promo cuts it short & does get the message out. While it may not explain the game mechanics it's good when you're about to come back from a commercial break. THe promo gets 3 stars from me; while it's not elaborate by any means it still gets the message across to viewers watching.
@godgundam10 Not if Fremantle distributes the classic 80's game show and maybe Hasbro, the company that made "Scrabble" will license the game. Remember, back in the 80's, Hasbro produced the animated series including "GI Joe", "The Transformers" and "My Little Pony & Friends". And Hasbro will co-distribute the classic 80's game show "Scrabble".
@godgundam10 I don't - they'd run it into the ground like they have all of the other classics, and unlike the USA Network days, no departing contestant tags from Jay Stewart & Charlie Tuna, no contestant or ticket plugs, speed-ups, you name it - GSN has ruined it!
I remember this promo.

A NEW channel/network needs to be invented in order to get gems like these running again.

The title "Scrabble" with repeats of 1984-1990 version was on USA Network, every Monday-Friday from September 16, 1991 through October 13, 1995.

I also hope GSN gets (the original) Sale of the Century [including all of the syndicated episodes] someday as well.

Scrabble, Weekdays after Hollywood Squares, on USA.

Actually, I think Scrabble came on after Press Your Luck. Or at least, it did at one time.

I have never seen anyone get excited over knowing the word "Bottles" as this nice, sweet lady in the promo just did.

I hope GSN gets Scrabble someday.

In order for that to happen, which I hope will, one of these miracles must happen:
1) Fremantle comes to their senses (very unlikely; they're mean).
2) Fremantle goes bankrupt and the rights are given to NBC, who's more generous (pretty likely; I'm really expecting bankruptcy for them).
3) GSN raids them (a bit unlikely and a bit harsh, but you-know-what deserves it).

Why would Fremantle go bankrupt?
godgundam10 3 years ago
I don't know, but I really want them to!
Hondo20132 2 years ago
Perhaps it would teach them a lesson! After all, it's while you air the show that you make the money off it!

i agree cause this game show was the best

@godgundam10 I Agree 100%!
