Glad you found it helpful. Yeah, it seems that we have to do a lot more research than ever before. I find it tiresome but worth the effort in the end, things being what they are these days in the business world.
I am so happy with Dell here in Iceland, they have very strict quality standards and good customer care in my oppinion.
There were a few issues with my laptop at the beginning (Dell Inspiron 1520), fortunately I had a three year warranty, and as soon I complained they asked me to bring it and fixed it in two days. The other time, my power brick died after almost two years, I just went down there, the woman plugged it in herself to check and I got a new one then and there.
Good for you! Dell USA has something to learn from Dell Customer Care in Iceland. Though I have had some good customer care and tech support experiences with Dell people (it's all in who you get on the other end of the line), in this case, (a very expensive case where it really counted) it was not to their credit.
I had numerous problems with a Dell Vostro 1400, called customer service and they were to no avail. They threw me around the entire company and they could not direct me to the right person. I sold the laptop for 100 bucks and i am never buying another dell again. I do not like their quality of product they use and there customer service is horrible. I use HP computers and printers and they work like a charm, i do not have any problems out of them and the customer service is excellent. :)
you know that all the dell vostro 1500's sound cards do that, right? mine does it my friends does it peoples on the internet does it. it is just the shit sound card you get. i mean you get what you pay for.my dell vastro 1500 is doing fine. i have no probs with it. besides the sound thing. i bought it for $1000 and so far ive only upgraded the ram to 4gigs and to vista ultimate. and ive had it for 2 and a half years and it works perfect.
Thanks for the advice i have to think carefully about buying the vostro i thought because its an enterprise computer it be better than the home labtops in customer service and technical support but im shocked at all the negative reviews, i recently got a optilex from my sisters work and its amazing built and its 3 years old and still good, but i guess all labtops are bad
Thanks for your comment. It seems to be pretty much of a "crap shoot" when buying almost anything these days. Deregulations coupled with outsourcing has affected the quality of products and, in my opinion, name brands don't mean what they used to mean.
I know you said you got a refurb, but (With the experance of Apple) That most referbs have brand new casing, the only parts of the notebook that is used is the internal parts. So even if they sent you a referb thats a poor quality referb
The sound problem is an engineering issue I believe, so there's really nothing to do about it really. But I too believe Dell is 'testing' their customers with refurbs to save costs with their 'hit or miss' method. I own a Vostro 1500 myself and it's 26 months old, so I was probably one of the luckier ones. If you go with Dell, it should be about cost. In exchange, you might have to go through some hell like you suggested. But their business model is shady nonetheless.
Yeah, cost is what they have in their favor. Especially when they run their sales. But what I saved financially, I ended up "paying" in aggravation. Anyhow, glad you got a good machine.
I was thinking about getting a DELL, but after this I won't. So may be they did you wrong, but they lost my business because of you...I hope that makes you feel a bit better :)
I'm sorry to hear that you had such a lousy experience with Dell, and good for you for trying to get your voice heard, such a shame that an American company has gone down the (pardon my french) Shithole, unfortunately i have to buy a laptop from them soon
Thanks for your kind words. I just found out they discontinued this model replacing it with the Vostro 1520. Maybe, because of all the complaints about the screen and the touch pad, they HAD to. It made me think that they were dumping the last few 1500's they had left when I got mine.
Well anyhow, maybe with their new line, you will be pleased with what you get. And yeah, I don't think there are any names that mean much these days. Seem like the products are all coming from the same place.
My MacBook Pro is 2 years old and still running fine, though I did upgrade the RAM from 2 to 4 GB and upgraded the 160 GB hard drive to a 250 GB one.
The only problem I had was with the DVD/CD SuperDrive, but I fixed it by cleaning the objective lens on the pickup.
Another was when a friend accidentally spilled wine on my notebook. Fortunately, the wine didn't get onto the motherboard and I was able to completely clean all the wine out (took it apart, cleaned, and reassembled).
Try calling your credit card company, explain you story and tell them you would like to dispute the charges since Dell is not doing the right thing. You paid for a new working laptop and that is what you need.
Honestly, I've owned 2 Dells. 1 desktop and 1 laptop and couldn't be happier with my experience. My desktop was ordered on the dell website, built, and shipped to me within 2 days, and then arrived at my door 2 days later. I bought a refurbished XPS M1530 laptop off of eBay which was classified as "reconditioned to Dell factory new specifications", and it seems so. I can't tell that the laptop isn't new. Nothing but good things from Dell with my experiences.
Ha lol, My dads one was completey brand new! and he has only ever used it once, Sooo.... hopfuly im Getting it :D - With the mic problem, go in sound and devices, and mute the Cd player!! it all works for me ;-)
I've got myself two Vostro 1500, on June 18, 2008. Shipped from the Ireland, transited via Paddington and finally, it was all crap. I got them for my dissertation. Thought it was a cheap deal. One of them's running fine, till-date, THANK GOD!
But the other one, totally crashed the next day, while updating windows. I got the operating system CD in, and try to restore to factory setting. The progress bar was good, then, it freezed in the middle of the process, and crashed, yet, again.
Been on the phone with them, only yesterday, 140 minutes. One of their technicians' supposed to come before 13:00. Its 11:48 and I took a day, off school today.
u must hav been 1 of d "un42nate" customers handled by dell srvice, but you know i got me a vostro 1500 and it's been performing quite well since i installed some updates on the drivers- downloaded 'em from intel's site. am a graphics designer here in saudi arabia and hav been using this laptop for some light 3D modeling jobs in Maya and not-so-heavy render works in Cinema 4D (upgraded to 4GB ram for this apps). til now its stil working fine. I think you wer not guided wel by those dell reps.
I knew there were some out there. It's all in who you get when you call. Some of the reps are great but, more often, at least in my case, they weren't.
so many nightmare stories about DELL.. you should of got a toshiba, maybe a fujitsu, and HP, i was thinking of getting a DELL but i aint to sure now LOL
What they had going for them when I bought mine was the XP install. But they don't have that anymore. Probably dropped in sales I'd imagine. I had always thought Dell was a good name. Something changed. Sure, I got some decent customer care in a few matters and some decent tech support also but, on a whole, I'd judge it about 50/50. I actually got hung up on 5 different occasions with tech support. If they can't solve it, you may find yourself mysteriously disconnected.
O dear i just ordered one ... im in the uk i might get soeacial treatment :)...hopefully.. lol thanks for the vid though u seem like a really nice women
Good one. Hopefully you WILL get special treatment.
And thanks for your kind comment. It put a smile on my face.
P.S. My husband just asked me to give you the link to my music videos.(they're from 1991) A bit of shameless promotion I admit but he MADE me do it. :)
That's great. 7 years! Before I bought the Dell, I was bouncing back and forth between Dell and Toshiba. But Dell offered XP as an operating system so I chose Dell because of that. But that will be changing in June of 2008 when they will no longer offer an XP install. I think they'll loose a lot of business when they stop offering XP as an operating system. Too bad they didn't discontinue it when I was shopping. I would have gotten a Toshiba.
What dell does is they make NEW cases for everything, and they take crappy hardware and put it in, THEY CALL IT A BRAND NEW DELL LAPTOP I GOT A DESKTOP WITH A MOTHERBOARD FROM 2002 AND A PROCESSOR THAT SAID INTEL PENTIUM 4 WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET A CORE 2 DUO ITS ALL BULLSHIT, JUST GET AN HP, THEY ARE A GREAT COMPANY TO GET COMPUTERS FROM, I HAVE BOUGHT MY SECOND COMPUTER FROM THERE AND HAVE HAD NP PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER, SO I WOULD RECCOMEND AN HP LAPTOP ,OR COMPAQ- COMPAQ IS OWNED BY HP
Great policy. I'm surprised Dell is staying in business. Like Emachines. I bought an Emachines PC and the motherboard died after 3 years. I read that others have the exact same problem. Like the motherboard is made to self destruct in 3 years. Someone started a class action suit against Emachines but they didn't follow up so it didn't go anywhere. But that's another video Heh. Well, maybe, when I hit the Lotto, I'll get a loaded HP. HP seems to be getting great reviews.
Thank you for posting your message. I completely feel your pain. My question to you is, did you request a refund on your purchase? I am just curious to know if they would have honored it. I am also dealing with a bad experience on a laptop from Dell which is out of warranty. But with that being said, computers should last more than a year. I have a Dell desktop that is over 5 years old and never had 1 issue. Thanks for your post! Mary in Tucson.
Sorry to hear you are having problems too Mary. No I didn't ask for a refund. This laptop is usually $849 but, when I bought it, it was a one day sale marked down into my budget. If I returned it, there was no other laptop in that range. But silly me. I thought their claim to strive for 100% customer satisfaction was genuine. Their reps would tell me they would "own my case until I was satisfied" so I thought the matter would be settled. It hasn't.
Dell M1330 is the worse laptop in the world.
