Awesome Video Andrew!!! I saw the one they have in Union,Illinois on 10/9/06 , but I have never seen any of them in action, Nice catch!!! Rochelle is a great place to watch Trains.
yeah. it used to have a M5. then a S5T. then a S3L (yeah the old S3L, not the RS3L) and now *gag* a K3LA. a classic unit should use a classic horn. that means leslies M horns or maybe even a old cast P horn. but nothing else.
Both Olympic Torch units are still running. I saw them this last week of May, 2009 headed East from Rochelle with only 2 auto carriers in their consist. Sorry...only got a quick photo with the cell phone.
Loved Rochelle. Great place to film & talk trains. Wish I coulda seen this beauty tho! Amazing that its still running. Gotta give UP props for running older diesels & steam! Too bad NS doesn't do this anymore. Really miss the 611.
What a beauty! Good seeing this giant running. That Nathan K3 series horn is out of tune, though. Hopefully the boys in the shop will take care of that.
Thanks. I'm working on turning my ears to locomotive horns, which is a challenge with some horn models. I listened to it again. You're right, it's similar to the S3L and S3LR horns used by Santa Fe and BN in the past. - Thanks :)
you're welcome. I really want to start working on the railroad if it ever exists by the time im like late 20s. im only 14 now. railroading is in my moms dads blood, so its in my grandpas blood, everyone on my moms dads side that was male, worked oon the railroad. and I want to too. its just so, fascinating.and the locomotives (such as this i wish they made more) are so beautiful and just breathtaking.
No need to worry. Railroads are moving more goods than ever today and are an essential part of our economy. BTW: Are you a member of the "Trains" forum or "Model Railroader" forum at Trainsdotcom? If not, join in. Good group of folks there.
Actually things have never looked better for railroads viability. Warren Buffet (worlds greatest investor) has just made large investments in UP and BNSF. The fuel crunch will only help rr's.
Great video! The only thing I hate about UP's 6936 is how they stuck the babywings and the lightning bolt on it.. It just demotes the engine's heritage
I would, but I Don't see why I should when the Age Of Steam museum in Dallas, Texas has one And a Big Boy, and a trip would be about 2 days shorter getting there. lol
Awesome vid man.....I love seeing power like that ride the rails.....Although I would of thought they would of put some other kind of whistle on it, I'd like to hear a P3 on that, or a K5LA
I think that all diesels are brilliant and can you get a train simulator add on about these locos

Awesome video you can see right thru the middle of the engine. I guess it makes sense it would have 2 generators.

I like the way the horn sounds in this video, the others I've seen of this train it sounds like crap. 5*****

The horn is a K3, and to my knowledge, used to be an RS5T.

That's a Nathan K3. It had the K3 from at least 2003-Late 2007. There were other interim horns mixed in as well.
