Well done w requests. In America we don't play as much Rock as we do top 40's. A lot of brides want to dance to whats playing on the radio w of course classics. It also depends what part of the country you play in. Thanks for sharing.
I had a wedding with crazy request that would clear any dancefloor. Well I played them since they were the Brides req. and it did just that, cleared the dance floor. Next I played one 8 song set and had the party rocking! The Bride gave me permission to play some of the song choices I would play since I have 21 years ofexperience. Well she complained and said I had no personality! What? I had the crowd doing chants and was rocking the house. Hang in their.
I was doing a corporate Christmas party and one of the girls kept asking for "Marshmellow World" by Dean Martin...(WTF?!) I knew them kinda well so I did my usually " Ok guys, I have a special request from Teresa and she wants everybody to join her on the dance floor for..." Holy Crap!! They cheered and jeeered and PACKED the dance floor! It was my last song and it worked very well, and now I do that gig every year and try to find a different version for them and they keep calling me back!!!
had Dancing Queen - abba, right said fred - i'm too sexy, britney spears - Toxic, and more of anything by Aretha requested at last wedding, can't remember the others...
Mate, I know how you feel, I get requests for some utter rubbish, and some stuff which just clearly isn't suitable for a disco. I mean why would anyone want Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd or any other rock music like that at a party? Some people...
@Simon0Day : I've played Money, Paranoid, Locomotive Breath and Whole Lotta Love at many parties. Old 70's rock goes down really well. There are however a couple of requests I just don't have or can't seem to work in but I try to play every request.
As a mobile DJ at a Wedding or Birthday Party, it's important to try and let everyone have a chance to dance to their song.
Ghost Love Score is a symphonic metal track, it's over 10 minutes long, GREAT REQUEST! ;o Would have played probably about 1/4 of them - Most of which I would have played regardless of whether people requested them or not.
I've just listened to it on here live at lowlands 2005 - absolutely Epic - Not my genre or style of music at all, but that is awesome - still would never play it at a gig mind, but really good, really like it.
@SnapAEng : Ghost Love score has to be an exception to the rule, unless I could have put in on as background music. But I'd never heard of it before today and I don't have it... As we know, we can't buy every track ever released for the 'just in case' scenario.
Crikey some of them were awful... I recently got asked for Benny Hill - Ernie, and Scaffolds - Lily The Pink!!! Yep... and the best one recently was the Laurel & Hardy Theme Tune.
Lol at the Laurel and hardy theme tune - I downloaded that the other day to use as a sample over some dance stuff, but TBH the quality is poor because of the original recording, and there's not a lot can be done as far as enhancing it production wise - might do a quick video on that one
Wow - those requests there were a real rarity - In fact i can't recall one Beatles request in the last 18 months, then i get two or three in one night!!!!
Great vid as always. I probably would have gone for 20% of those. I've never put slips out but always invite requests. If someone takes the time to come and talk to me i do my best - I think slips encourage people to put random "stuff". I've has a few couples wanting to put "name one song you would dance to" on their invitation reply cards - I've tried to discourage them. I'd keep those slips to show any other couples who want to do the same thing! Keep up the great work.
@Paulthepartydj : Don't use request slips either but take a notepad with me to write them down so I don't forget.. but still do occasionally. it also gives me a reference on some songs that get requested more than once so I can add them to my collection. I think you're right Paul, If they have to come and speak to you it helps create a better connection with the guests. I even get on the dance floor myself sometimes which people think is highly amusing.
if you like this comment a justin beiber fan will die :D
