On the Oriskany, CV-34's last cruise in '77 with VA-153 was pre-women on board ships. We picked up a female customs officer at Pearl Harbor who'd be with us to San Francisco, ugly as sin, but they had to put a Marine escort with her. That's what bein' a fleet sailor back in the day was.....not Reba McIntire lookalikes at the radar.

The second pilot looked like he or she missed EVERYTHING, and didn't even come close to the area where the wires are located. Still, even to be out there doing that job (especially during night ops) requires more than anything I could imagine doing. Great series. Really got into the nuts and bolts of a lot of it.
