  • wow these guys are pretty good for a youtube garage band. its too bad the internet came too late for them they could of been famous

  • Comment removed

  • The bass is what makes this song so good

  • Why do you want to kill an Arab?

  • @faisouol1 Nobody knows why. But I think he plans to use a fire in C A I R O.

  • @acr08807 l.o.l=P

  • @acr08807 that should be the muslim brotherhoods national anthem "F I R E I N C A I RO...F I R E I N C A I R O...F I R E I N C A I R O"

  • @amyhuk Just because the Muslim Brotherhood is dominated by violent, bigoted, misogynistic, closed-minded men who abhor freedom, that doesn't mean we should ignore their positive side. For example, the annual MB picnic in Cairo is by every account the very model of a well run family event.

  • @acr08807 i guess i could over look all the beheadings bombings and desecrations for a well run and family friendly picnic. just no pork please

  • @amyhuk Alright, you win!

  • @faisouol1 this song is about The Stranger or The Outsider (L’Étranger) is a novel by Albert Camus(1942). You would have to read to understand the song.

  • @Devoto77 It has nothing to do with racial hatred and that things, only is part of the book.

  • @Devoto77 I'd translate it as "The Foreigner." That better captures the irony of the title.

  • @Devoto77 no its not Robert smith had to shoot a palastinian when he was a peace keeper during the yom kippur war of 1973. the song is about that

  • @amyhuk Nope!

  • @amyhuk Robert born in 1959 in 1973 still in the school where he formed his first band.

  • @Devoto77 you are such a nerd. lol

  • @faisouol1 why not?

  • @amyhuk

    What why not???

  • good haircut good song good sentiment

  • I keep checking to see if it's somehow on fast forward...

  • mental solooo

  • john cusak??

  • gefällt mir

  • GR8!!!!

  • raw

  • Stupendo...

  • Vote for the cure! They are at #3 right now in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame...get them to #1!!!!!

    rockhall.com/get-involved/interact/poll/

  • Drums make this song.

  • @Z1cky shut the fuck up

  • @Z1cky Drums AND Bass ;)

  • lost in that bass line.

  • i don't know about all that shit like emo, heavy metal, speed metal ,hard core ,live rock all that is shit for me i only recognize good music and the cure is fucking awesome with a lot of bands from the 70s and 80s meabe early 90s., now 90% is garbage (sorry its my opinion)

  • ...whichever I choose it amounts the same: absolutely nothing

  • thanks to this song(and Robert as well), I discovered 'The Stranger' by Albert Camus...and then, I read many things written by him, a new world thanks to this band...long live to The Cure!

  • F#$%k panic at the Disco crap... this is the Shi@#$! CURE FOREVER

  • Comment removed

  • I can care less what style they are.. i love cure, period...

  • at 1:38 the sound guy takes the reverb off his voice.

  • Calling The Cure emo is tantamount to calling the Book of Job existential.

  • If Simon was wearing a green lantern T-shirt, I could swear I´ve seen Sheldon Cooper playing on Cure!!!! lol just kidding!!!

Great song, about a great book!!!

    Cheers from Brazil

  • 13 arE arab

  • Young Robert looks like Ben Affleck + a little bit of John Cussack... I really like this song I cant believe its from 78. I think I'll buy the cd!

  • Ahhh wow! Fantastic stuff.

  • he tore that guitar a new soundhole

  • @icarus187 Well said!!

  • @icarus187 Finally, a comment from someone on youtube who understands irony. Thumbs up!

  • Robert Smith = genius

  • Robert was so young O.O

  • this song in 2011 is better than most shit..on the radio today :) looks like john cussack

  • @therealrockondon speak for yourself, we still got some good music here. The cure catalog = no fillers.

  • @thundertower well im speaking for where im from

  • Oh my god. O_O He was SO HOT at that age!

  • that was the best virsion of the song i have ever heard....sounds raw and punkish...i luv it

  • woah that's some badass guitar works!

  • Goth image? Pretty Predictable "fan". Ugh... Been a fan since 1982/83 and they are NOT goth. Listen to The Top album. Duh....

  • @missescookie Listening to The Top doesn't prove anything. Afterall it was before that album was realised, that pornography, faith and seventeen seconds were realised. Not to mention Robert worked with Siouxsie and the Banshees, so that he could keep playing dark songs (he says in an interview). It was after their "gothic" or "dark wave" phase that they focused on psychedelic rock. So, it would appear you're a "fan" aswell...

  • damn stroke that guitar smith.

  • Ese Robert, toca más ràpido que Speedy Gonzalez!!!!.

  • one question's what happend? batter? today

  • It's just amazing. To see a band like The Cure starting in '76, 13 or so albums later, 30 however-many singles, and everything they've gone through along with the evolution of their sound...wow, it's amazing they're still pumping out albums and touring 35 years later, and still sounding fantastic. Unbelievable.

  • He never went or was and has never been Goth. I wish people would get there information right. Robert Smith hates to be told that he is Goth. He has been wearing the outfits and stuff before there was Goth.

    Quote from Wikipedia

    About Goth

Robert Smith, however, denies this and claims its a coincidence that the styles are similar. He says he has worn make-up since he was young. He was also quoted as saying, "It's so pitiful when 'goth' is still tagged onto the name The Cure."

  • THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THAT VOICE!!!!

  • musta took some uppers for this performance

  • so bad ass! haha <3

  • baaaaaaaaaad music

  • simon the sailor :)

  • Citando al gran Alber Camus, muy bien por The Cure...

  • The guy guy playing the bass looks like a pirate :P

  • @skjorestad94 so what

  • @r3playretro It's nothing wrong about that. I like The Cure. But those clothes were a bit funny.

  • @skjorestad94 Looks like Murdoc Niccals.

  • Wouaaaaah, amazing!!!

    video rare, instant rare!

    Merci

  • I fucking love this ! This is The Cure young 'and green but absolutely fucking raw and fway before it's time.

  • robert plays a mean f***n guitar or what!!

  • putain comment y déchirent tout !...

  • wow, robert makes it look so easy.

  • Wow, they approach Metallica speed on this!

  • take care while there's a fire in cairo....(february 2, 2011)

  • 0:23 that open string doesn't sound good..ha ha

  • @germansillies

It does, but he uses the tremolo arm to bend it.

  • What is known about the Arabs, they are a gentle people

They really do not deserve it

They are one of the best people to be generous and morality

    They are not racists

  • @EMPROR07 This song has nothing to do with racism, sir.

  • @QsarShuffler Thank you for Toadek But what is the meaning of killing an Arab

Certainly two elements I really do not respect these acts

There is a beautiful American music such as Michael Jackson,

But ill-treatment and clear, however, says we are terrorists

Arabs say: Do not throw, but the tree fruit

    Mr.

  • @EMPROR07 This Song is based on the novel "The stranger" by Albert Camus. There the protagonist kills an arab (in Algeria in the 30ies), not out of hatred or revenge but out of indifference and boredom.

  • @AntjeBohnhorst and he is sentenced to death for this murder

  • @EMPROR07 Where's the "American" music you are talking about? I don't even see it in here. They are from the U.K. Also, I'm not going to quote what you said, it's just illogical and messy. Are you using any kind of translator?

    @AntjeBohnhorst Exactly.

  • @EMPROR07 the problem with araba ppl, is that they are fuck up with religion, all that great culture and science from medieval times, thrown to the garbage by religion faith. lame lame lame.

  • its' Ben Affleck...

  • bass player wears the same thing every show or whaaa

  • @MrTerribIe he's related to charlie brown.

  • I was listening to this, and Burn Like a Fire in Cairo, and when I switched over to the news, they announced Saddat had been assassinated

  • Robert Smith <3 was SO gorgeous when he was 20.

  • @Alliexoxo22

La laideur a cela de supérieur à la beauté, elle dure plus longtemps !

  • Why does Simon always wear a mime shirt? always the horizontal stripe shirts. It was weird seeing Robert on tv the other night.. sporting the same freaky scissorhand hair and white makeup but you could see the aged lines. time is cruel. I remember sitting in my friends basement listening to this song at 14 years of age. Sometimes 10 years ago are impossible to remember but 30 years ago is like a month or two. Memory compression shows that time doesn't exist. Only repeating reality.

  • 9 arab was pissed Off

  • This would be banned in these awful egg shell years.

He reminds me of Terry Hall of The Specials when he was in Fun Boy 3.

  • This would be banned in these awful egg shell years.

  • @1988acid that's what you get with politically correct socialism. all the thinks punk speaks out against and yet many want it so bad. it's so sad. long live freedom. socialism must die.

  • @snarkthenews Yeah all these so called Anti Fascists don't live in Saudi or the Congo and prob not in Hackney.

  • Best version of this song.

  • cool

  • he is sooooooo hot!

  • Whenever Jason can play this fast, he will be considered a decent drummer. It's sad to watch the new performances of this song and the other old stuff being butchered by that idiot drummer. This is the real Cure.

  • Merci de nous avoir postée cette vidéo ; thanks a lot ! : le tout début des Cure, ils ont à peine 20 ans ! Only 20 ! Bobby was really cute.

  • man i wish i was there

  • Que buena esta esta version, sorprendente!!!!!!

  • Really briliant version , i've nerver seen The Cure so young !

  • robert looks like simon cowell in this vid

  • @electronicmedium

    theyr'e both hot too!!!

  • ONCE FOR ALL :

THE CURE is NOT a gothic band.

"gothic style" was invented a long time after them by kids.

  • He kind of looks like the lead singer of The Specials in this video

  • This song was written by smith when he was 16...Talented bastard... Tolhurst was downgraded from drum to synth because he wasnt good enough??? He kicks ass on this

  • I would love to hear this on the radio today and I`m sure there would be some bitching about it.

  • Wow a very young Robert.... Awesome

  • It made me laugh so much when I found out that U.S. soldiers were playing this song during the gulf war, silly sods.

  • that was ridiculously fast

  • Simon Played bass in the Punk Band LockJaw

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub this has absolutly nothing to do with emo, emo is a genre that evolved from emotive hardcore which in turn evolved from american hardcore which came out of the LA punk scene over the course of 15 to 20 years, goth (which is what the cure became) came from the british punk scene that was quickly invaded by the intellectual english youth who started post-punk (the genre this song is) that quickly became more dark and brooding. the two are unrelated and worlds apart in style

  • @Thescarydutchman 99% correct.

  • @Thescarydutchman never seen anyone explaining so good to a dumb kid the differences between these 2 genres, GOOD JOB :D

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub you are a moron!

  • @Tengocuentadeyoutub actually in a way you're right. emo is definately influenced by this kind of style. And this early goth/post-punk eclectic kind of music is branched from punk rock as is emo (emotive hardcore/hardcore/punk.

  • Maybe it was recorded 16.11.1979 but showed on the television 08.12.1979?

  • absolutely positive message in this song.

    nothing more, nothing less

  • Robert is HOT HOT HOT!!!

  • Robert and Simon are so sweet and beautiful <3

  • @ronja82Cure

La laideur a ceci de supérieur à la beauté, elle dure plus longtemps.

  • robert was hot before he went all goth...i mean i love his goth image but all that makeup hides his pretty face!

  • @coffeefire

    ONCE FOR ALL :

THE CURE is NOT a gothic band.

"gothic style" was invented a long time after them by kids.

"You can't sing something like Friday I'm in love and be gothic, it doesn't work" - Robert SMITH - THE CURE

  • @coffeefire I hate terminology! Like "Goth" H e was just doing his own thing

  • @coffeefire all that makup hides his double chin

  • @coffeefire yeah didn't realise he was cute til i saw this!

  • Isn´t the date 16.11.1979 and not 08.12.1979?

  • it's 30 years ago. Who cares?

  • I care, thats the reason I asked...

  • Fair enough! Meant no offence m8.

  • Young Robert Smith looks quite a bit like Haley Joel Osment.. Start filming the biopic, NOW!

  • I'm making my jazzmaster like robert's

  • The early Cure was the best.

  • All the cure was the best!

  • I hate how he has to sing "Killing Another"

  • @arrisfilms

    i no its so stupid

    i love killing an arab

he didnt mean any thing in the song

    thecure4ever

  • @thecurearethebest If someone asked him to change it back then he would of told them to get stuffed, people are silly these days. :( We need a planet ruled by Robert!

  • @arrisfilms

its very stupid the way people think :(

yes we do need a planet ruled by robert

  • Thanks for this! Great!

  • great upload, sometimes people forget how good of a player Robert Smith is... very unique style and very good.

  • This song and this video just shows how good of a guitarsit robert smith really is.

    simply AMAZING.

  • Great trousers, Bob!

  • 0:37-0:51

Robert Smith resembles Ben Affleck (vice versa) there. lol.

The Cure = Fucking Amazing btw.

  • I can't believe there isn' ta whole freakout her on the comments, before anyone says anything, it's not supposed to be racist, it's based on a scene from Camus's book "The Stranger"

  • they are a bunch of ignorant....thanks papa...

  • Well I am speechless as always in front of him, just WOW!

  • SMITH THE BEST!!!!!

  • Mar akkor Is tudtak a lenyeget

  • this is amazing

  • Les trois premiers albums des Cure sont essentiels; le reste s'est quelque peu dilué dans la clownerie post-rock new waveuse. Mais c'est toujours un plaisir que d'entendre de tels titres

  • I understood most of this even as i don't know french, just for the record ;D

  • Reminds me of the clash alittle. I guess they started getting so freaky looking cause that wasnt the image they were trying to produce

  • Happy Sunday

  • robert t es trop beau

  • can't believe they kicked out tolhurst.

  • another one of my cure songs. Robert looks really cute too :)

  • Rob looked good without his make-up.

  • this can't be a 1979 version, what i know, in 1979 rover had his hit in boys dont cry, and he was way way younger then on this vido,

  • I think this is the late '79 because he was the same in 1980 when 'Seventeen Seconds' came out.

  • Wow, this is excellent quality, and an amazing version indeed! Thank you very much for posting!

  • Think they were 20 at this time !

  • smith wouldn't have been because he was born in 1956

  • WRONG! 1959 ;]
