  • Teh fortylate

  • that lead amtrak unit was involved in a crash in chicago when it rearended a doublestack train.

  • #8 was a good engine. Too bad some idiot destroyed it. Nice vid. lol @ the passenger

  • I have a video of the Lake Shore Ltd. 2 hours late.

  • That guy is lucky. If I was the conductor, I would have left him. That's not fair to those who were there waiting on time. this is one of the reasons Amtrak trains constantly run behind schedule because of idiots like this.

  • The F40's were great expect for one problem. The had to ran full throttle even stopped to keep the HEP units going. taking this train tomorrow. I hope it is empty. I don't want to share a seat.

  • Enjoy it man!!! Can't wait to see your video footage!

  • maybe that guy was in the restroom in the station... lol .. was that train headed to utica, ny afterwards?

  • Yes.

  • Yep, but next stop was Rochester, NY. If the guy missed the train he could have just picked up the next Empire Service train that day to NYC or wherever else he was going.

  • Arent the sleepers in the back (the 48 part of the 448/48 mix). cuz i was on it last week and my sleeper car was the very last

  • They are now. They recently switched the order of the train around so the sleepers are at the back instead of the front to be further away from the locomotive.

  • When this video was taken, the LSL was connecting with a shuttle train in Albany rather than being split there. The split/merge has since been restored, so 448's sleeper is behind the baggage car and 48's are on the end.

  • R.I.P P42DC 8

  • woah, you have 4,500 views on this.

  • I know. It must be the now-wrecked lead locomotive.

  • Nice video! Does anyone know why they have stopped using the dining cars and have replaced them with two cafe cars?

  • The entire Amtrak dining car fleet (with the exception of Superliner diners and 1 Viewliner diner) is pre-Amtrak, which means the youngest diner is at least 38 years old. They are falling apart & expensive to maintain. (I was once stuck in Toledo, Ohio waiting for the eastbound Capitol Limited, delayed 4 hours due to a malfunctioning diner.) So Amtrak implemented the "Cross Country Diner" concept, which are refit cafe cars serving meals requiring less prep than a full diner. They're pretty good.

  • oh yeah I ate in a "diner lite" back in april. It was alright but not as good as I think a real diner would have been. I've never eaten in a heritage diner. Well hopefully the viewliner diner will end up on either the lakeshore for one of the trips or the cardinal. And maybe they'll order some more viewliner diners too. I heard amtrak was planning on ordering more sleepers, baggage cars and diners in viewliner configuration. Not for a few years though.

  • The heritage diner is back on the LSL! Go ride the train and get the experience while you can!

  • I'm riding it in April! Do you think it will still be around then? Or is this a short term thing?

  • As far as I know its back for good. I'll be riding in February and March, so I can't wait to ride and dine in one again!

  • @gp40mc I rode the Texas Eagle from Chicago to Del-Rio and the food was pretty good in the diner along the way.

  • Well Sasilv, Yes They Are !!! They have been replaced with Diner Lite Cars as they call them. I don't 2 much care 4 them !!! Their on Train 50/850 & 48/448. I rode & ate in one & it's not the same !!! I miss the old diners !!! I remember that Beech Grove had a "Viewliner Diner" but I haven't seen it in a while. The Car number's for these "Diner Lite" Car's are numbered 280's. They look like "Amfleet II'S" from a distance.

  • That was the Lake shore limited. I like it. That was going to New York City. Right?

  • Yes.

  • Where you around when Amtrak has F40PH units?

  • Yes. I grew up on the F40PHs. Great locomotives.

  • NJ transit had F40PH units. And NJ transit and Via rail canada are starting to switch to the Genesis P40DC's.

  • those are horrible. the f40's are by the best passenger diesel locomotive. amtrak should start using the f40's again ):

  • Thankfully Boston still uses mainly F40s on the MBTA

  • thats highly unusual for amtrak to stop the train to let a late passenger on the train

  • awesome vid, and awesome vids on rogers rd my relatives live right around that corner

  • Thanks! A lot of people seem to either live or know someone living near the Rogers Road crossing.

  • interesting. the leed unit number 8 is the engine destroyed 11/30/07 in chicago.

  • Yep. This may be the last known video of that engine in service before the wreck occurred.

  • i would of left his ass right on the platform

  • not a worry. might have a look around for a canon. thanks.

  • its very clear! what camera did you use?

  • Thanks! I use a Canon Mini-DV ZR 20. This particular model is no longer made, but its descendents are still out there. I highly recommend Canon - they make great video cameras.

  • Whatever happened to P42 engine #8?

  • What was up with those bilevels? Never have I seen anything like that.

  • there not bi-level there sleeping cars

  • Well they have two sets of windows... man there still messed up anyway you look at them

  • all single level sleepers have double windows. its bunk beds.

  • okay... theyre still messed lol

  • These sleepers are viewliner sleepers. They were designed to mimic the superliner sleepers out west but are only single level because of height restrictions in New York City and other points along the east coast.

  • Oh. You guys don't have superliners over there?

  • Superliners wouldn't fit through some of the tunnels on these Amtrak routes...they are too tall.

  • That'd explain it.

  • I am surprised that the Lake shore limited train stopped for that passenger because if you are late for your departure you will have to take the next train or stay over night for the next train. i do not think that most train wait for late people like this man.

Once the engine starts they do not stop

  • they sometimes do if they can just to be good to the passengers

  • at about 14 minutes, did you have a tripod? great angle. it looks awesome when the train is moving.

  • i meant 4 minutes

  • Yes. In fact, this was my first Amtrak video filmed using a tripod.

  • PHEW! At least he made it. He looked so confused;)

  • Yeah. Indeed. There was another Amtrak train, Maple Leaf #64, that was waiting to arrive as soon as the LSL departed. He probably confused the two since they were both going to New York.

At least they stopped the train for him. I've seen other people run to catch the train but the train wouldn't stop...

  • I am not sure, they are old and heavy, the are replacing it with a "dinnete" I have in some of my later Amtrak videos.

  • POOR GUY! They discontinued that Diner. I caught it on Saturday! Good shot though!

  • Are they discontinuing diners altogether on the Lake Shore? If so, what are they replacing them with? The Am II lounge cars?

  • Great Video! Once I get my own camera I will be shooting videos of the LSL at Penn Station and Chicago. Also I will be shooting Acelas,AEM-7's,HHP-8's and others at big stations but i will ask the conductor to tell the engineer to do the two short blasts on the horn when leaving.
