Bless you! Finally a video to Sailing that shows sailboats (the gorgeous tall ships!) and actual sailing. I saw another Sailing video that obviously wasn't done by a sailor--all stills showing beautiful hazards to navigation!
To my Captain, You took me to the best of paradise, the wind was right, the canvas did do miracles, Sailing took us away,I got the the best of you when you were sailing. This song ...you are free.
@Skyclad65 Really? I went out to Cornwall for a few days last year during the summer. That was quite lovely. I didn't see any tall ships but whatever. But what I did see was too much great cream teas and a lot of ice cream! Marazion was especially pretty because of St. Michael's Mount.
@jrmetmoi she is living near mevagissey, she wanted to be closer to Plymouth. I spent a few days with her and did not want to come home. Maybe the tall ships were sailing it takes them away I heard :)
This is so excellent. I remember this song from High School. It is a great late night driving song too. Thank you for this the images so perfectly suit the song. I hope you don't mind, I have subscribed to your channel.
If you have actually gotten to sail on some of these extraordinary tall ships? I will die of jealousy! YOur video was fantastic and fit the mood of the song well. For a little while there I imagined the sea rocking me and the saltwater breezes blowing across my face. The visuals and the music were so perfectly entwined. Thank you! Kudos!
My favorite 70s song of all time right here, you can quote me on it, with no take backs. LOL I remember singing this song at the age of 3 years old. I so loved this song as a toddler, so peaceful and melodious.
I'm so loving your videos. A friend of mine shared your video for Cool Change. I shared it as well and now I'm subscribed to you :) Keep them coming! ^_^
I love this song. A neighbor had this song playing in her kitchen when I was a kid and I heard it while laying on the grass reading a book under trees enjoying warm breezes of summer. It sealed this song as one of tranquility and peace. I hear it and I'm transported to simpler times. Sweet!
You want to talk about dropping a serenity-bomb?! Congratulations my friend, In a world where it takes less and less for something to be considered art:
You have achieved art. Just beauful. A great mental health moment during a craptastic week.
you know what this vid caused me to looked up great sailing ships and i eneded up reading the article on uss constitution and hms victorious and looking into clipper ships and i played this song over 50 times now i got to buy the album doe!!!
I haven't been sailing since 1992. Funny how something that filled my life with such joy for many years during my youth has vanished in my adult years. Hearing this song brings back such good memories of worry-free days. There is just nothing like setting sail and heading out to serenity. So healing. Miss you dad! Hope to sail with you again some day on the other side. Pick me up in "Tenacity" when I get there.... okay? <3
To All the Classes of 1980, '79, & '81- Have a Great Sunday! "May you find peace and tranquility!" Off sailing today for the first time since I moved to Beltway Banditland!! Yippee!!! "The canvas can do miracles"!!
My Grandad had a boat factory in Australia when I was young. He has passed away and when I see these beautiful boats sailing so peacefully on the ocean all I really think about is Grandad coming through the door for lunch and the smell of fiberglass so thick it practically burns my eyes.....I loved him and he loved SAILING
I was looking for music for my mom,I remember when we where young she used to sing this to use.She loves this song. So i listened to this before I putit on her i-pod.i just never realized what this song must have meant to her.
This song always reminds of my favourite holiday way back in the 80's when I went to Argele-sur-mare in France (Atlantic coast), and a very special French girl who I will never forget. Thanks for posting!
I Love this Video...In Lyric it is a belief that it speaks about our positive Journey in life. metaphoric as to where life can and does lead us in the calmness of all Seas.
I stood with Buddy Ebsen in Ensenada, Mexico . After the 1966 Newport to Ensenada race. He sailed Polynesian Concept to first to finish. Now thats a sailing story!
Sailing is wonderful. However, this ship is motor powered and is not indicitive of real sailing. I sailed the Ensenada race from Newport, Ca, many times and stood next to Buddy Ebsen at the trophy presentation in Ensenada at the Bahia in 1967. He won for first to finish in his new cat named "Polynesian Concept".
Great Song. The sails on the ships in this video do indeed like they are made of hemp canvas. Hemp was an important crop to the early sailing industry. Ships typically had to replace their sails and rigging about every 6 months due to heavy salt erosion...at great expense.
Pretty sure it's the standard 10%, but I'm still not sure if that's 10% of ALL ships or just 5%, since most of them are given female names. Hrm... how do ya check gender? Kinda looks like they're male (bow pulpit)... what if they're males and we're calling them Her? No wonder they're gay! Hell, maybe they're ALL gay!
@toejamkook I think ships are considered feminine and called 'she' and 'her' because while your out in the middle of nowhere in the water 'she' is supposed to protect you like a mother. That ship out in the middle of so much water is really all you have out there. I think it's supposed to be a maternal reference.
1981. I know because this was the 1st record I heard on the car radio immediately after splitting with a girl in suffolk, england. crazy what I can remember!
Sorry to burst your bubble toronto but it actually was released in 1979. Had climbed to #1 in July 1980 and won a number of Grammy's that year. I heard it on a sailboat in the summer of 1980. She was pretty.....Both the sailboat and the girl I was with.
This is one of the best fan-made videos of anything I've ever seen. It totally suits the song, the visuals are gorgeous, and the song itself reminds me of my early childhood so the fact that I can pretend the visuals all come from around the time of said early childhood (around '83 - '86) and it's not a stretch of the imagination = major win. Thank you for this gift to YTland.

I was laying in my bed , had just taken chemotherapy and was on marinol , it was a summer evening and this song came on the radio . Music is medicine , especially this song.
what an awesome song!!! i remember back as a child I heard this song while the radio station in Antigua covered Antigua Sailing Week in the early 1980s!!!
after just returning from a 12 day cruise on The Royal Clipper, this song is a culmination of my 35 year sailing experienc..I've enjoyed every sunset and the feeling of independance on both the baot's abilities and mine to see, experience and arrive safely back at my home port. I just was not prepared for a 700' clipper sailing vessel..but the love and rememberance of the feeloings evoked by this song on my 1st overnihter in a small creek is similar to coming ashore in Korkula, Croatia..
I remember hearing this song when I was about 14 yrs old and it would make things that seem to bother me feel better. The beat and rithym of the music is calm and soothing and this song still calms me when no other music
i told my mom if anything was to happen to me, i want this song played at my funeral.

This song always reminds me of the best holiday I ever had - 5 weeks on the Cote D'Azure and memories of a very special French girl I met there.

after just returning from a 12 day cruise on The Royal Clipper, this song is a culmination of my 35 year sailing experienc..I've enjoyed every sunset and the feeling of independance on both the baot's abilities and mine to see, experience and arrive safely back at my home port.
