  • Great talk, and still pretty true!

  • hi lisa! i just want to thank you for this really great video.. very helpful that it untangled haywired circuitry in my brain on how to really make a good website :)

  • Smart brains

  • Thanks you for your wisdom and understanding. No offense but your hot. PHAT pretty hot and tempting so when haters say that your not giving all your secrets , Just Ponder is this person a hater or just pissed because i am on the top of my game.

  • Great video,thanks

  • Thanks Lisa for the great info as always! Down to essentials! Quality Content....anything worth doing takes time and effort and patience...quick fixes don't fix over the long haul! Blessings! :)

  • I really hate SEO. But it was just one of those things I used to do since it was an absolutely necessity. Tools like Senuke really made life a lot easier but until I met this little tool InsaneBacklinks(dot)com

  • lisa, i must say, ive been seen your videos for years now, I must thank you for all the info you provide.

  • I agree. SEO loves blogs with great content.

  • I really needed to know this.

  • Hey lisa.. dose link in emails count as a back links???

  • Link Juice is street cred, lol I like it.

  • Good service is definitley something every company should focus on.

  • I plan to host like an arcade page on my website. These games will be widgets that I get from another web site. What is your opinion on how this will effect my website (goo or bad)??

  • Great video

  • Lisa! Thanks for all the great tips! I had to pay you respects with a little comedic HTML. Here's my post entitled "Milky Way Galaxy 3007"! nerdtrek.com/milky-way-galaxy-3007/

  • hey

  • @1you1tube1fan It counts as a one-way link for the company you are affiliated with but does nothing for your own site's SEO.

  • @lisa3876 soo in the end good service wins?

  • Great vid I hope you met go-sour blog talking about the subject

  • Hi lisa, I'm starting a new online children's educational toy website, obviously there's a lot of them around, but what's the best way to get your site noticed online? I kinda am stressing a little about SEO optimisation and the price that many of these companies charge.

  • I don't even bother with SEO because there is way too much competition for all the good keywords, I don't have time to do link building and wait around for my site to rank. The world of E-commerce is very tough and new ideas are quickly copied. The fastest way to make money online today is through opt in email marketing & PPC, But not PPC through SE's Im talking about PPC on pages of other websites that earn large amounts of traffic. Think about it.

  • funny.... even though recorded 2-3 years ago I dont think you said anything that is not Still True Today.

  • @MrBond8821 That's the primary reason I haven't done another video. These principles still apply today. People who try all these black hat tricks are constantly dodging and adjusting to appease the engines, but if you build quality content that people love, you'll be rewarded over and over again by the engines. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Im a programmer in web delopment and even not beeing videos about programming i really love your videos because you talk about a range of so many things and we can really have good ideias just by following your videos!

    THANKS ALOT!!!

  • Great video!

  • You rock Lisa! I checked your rank on Alexa. Most of these other SEO-optimization speakers here have rankings into millions.... They should not open their mouths.

  • good stuff lisa!

  • How long have you been using SBI? Everything you said sounds exactly like the things SBI teaches you. Link ins are crucial to getting ranked highly.

Meta tags are worthless, too. Watch Google IO 2010 SEO talk.

  • Yea man, right on l Lisa ... you hit the nail on the head with your take on SEO.....and you speak very well also....Power to you

  • Hie Lisa,you make sense.

  • Lisa, like your flag!

  • ty!

  • Are you sure you are not a techie? Infoseek, that was a minute ago ...

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. It is simply dripping with awesome information! It's really going to help me with making websites in the future. You go girl!

  • Everybusiness wants a website now. They will spend hours of a developers time and then bail when a $1500 site is too much. Or worse, beat you down to a loosing fee of $800 and then beat you down on additional services like SEO. Find out who the deadbeats are as fast as possible and then get off the phone.

  • Another honest, sensible post! Thanks!

  • That's really what it all comes down to... quality content. You build a site and develop quality content, and the search engines will love you. (Not to mention advertisers.) Great video, Lisa.

  • Ah the good ole days. I used to beat that Infoseek mule silly and I won't be messing with you. That thing talked.

  • What people need to do is to get off the google trap and start advertising their website on radio and tv. Google is unfair to the smallest sites. And what's going to happen is what happened to ebay. All the major players stayed in, and many of the average Joe's had to leave. And now ebay is just another scam site that serious vendors are staying out. Specially the ones from China.

  • @mercurio0000 Well put. Spammers have made getting noticed a very expensive accomplishment

  • very nice video lisa thanks for sharing with us yes you are correct .

  • One thing that people should know is that automated content is getter better and better impersonating genuine content especially when it can be copied from genuine content. The methods SE needs to tackle that problem will more and more affect people writing their content.

  • noob ^^

  • I can get anybody ranked on the first page on the top. PM me if you are interested.

  • Thanks, you are ZZZZZ B E S T !

  • Just ask Intelligent positioning because they are the best at what they do my company worked with them and they still worked really well

  • Gotta love Lisa speaks the truth shame there is not a lot of ppl on here just talk BS

    Kiss

    Anthony

    Portadown Ireland

  • good point

  • Really like your work, just come across it.

I've heard mention of the importance of a robot.txt file in root folders having some significance in SEO. Do you have an opinion?

You imply there's less relevance to keyword density, do you think that may have some relation to the age of a particular site?

Hope you don't mind my direct questioning :) I'm relatively new to SEO with clients and projects, but I'm a confident reader and writer of xhtml,CSS and JS. All the best.

  • SEO !!!!!!!

  • seo

  • Thank you for your info, I think that all you need to do, is just buld a good website, and put information that people are looking for, and don't worry about all this SEO & Metatags.

My site, has only been going for a few months and I have had over several hundred views as counted on my counter.

And the site is slowy starting to work for me.

Never pay much too to advertise, as it is a ripp off by the big players out there.

  • I loved the ideas of "not-liking-that-much" of the current seo's concept which manipulate the Meta tags and keywords in becoming more popular on search engine. Thank you, Lisa. It's worth my time just to sign in and comment on this video.

  • I'm launching 2 sites soon(not up yet, as of this comment.Under construction.)

But seo by itself isn't all about meta tags. its about relevant content, keywords, networking web 2.0 to the fullest, and creating backlinks(to create popularity.)

It's "all of this" and then some.

I take a Bruce lee approach to it. It's like water, it "must" be adapted.

    Use whatever works,discard what doesn't.

And content will always be king.

My site coming August 20, 2010!

    peace!

  • hey SIS you really laid this out .. really good job .. Keep it up and stay focus

  • You just said engines ignore metatags for backlinks, which is obviously true - that's the whole idea of google, AND engines ignore backlinks now too....WTF? Google doesn't look for content quality; of course it looks for back links, no matter how you get them...

  • wow i found you on youtube. i read an article of yours like 4 years ago that helped my adsense earnings. great video. I subbed

  • You are so cute.

  • i have a question that needs to answered(PLZ help) .i made a click bank account and i started to promote a link.i made a video with the link i am trying to promote.now most people say that on clickbank you work for one day and money starts to flow "in".now i don't know how to get my link on the search engines.i don't have a website nor a blog or much of any type of internet influence.i am underage thought i understood how click bank works but now i am quickly becoming confused.

  • I think what really matters in the Local Business field , is that you have a lot of traffic going to the site and maybe worry about ranking later . Focus on the costumer. the rest will follow. Key words aren't really the capital in what I do as long as I flow traffic to the costumers site . Thanks Good Video !

  • Hi Lisa, I'm trying to get into digital marketing and need to take a course in SEO and SEM. I'm worried it may involve too much IT I'm not savvy in the field. I know enough to build and design websites. I'm hoping to earn a qualification with would get me into a digital marketing role. Is SEO too technical for beginners?

  • thanks

  • So, if I follow the step by step instructions in the free SEO Webinar at marketingstrategiestoday-dot-com will i have the success your talking about? The info sounds good, but I don't want to get started incorrectly.

  • Thank god for this. So sick of the "magical" formula - I get a lot of this with regard to video SEO... It is a set of best practices. Not and Instant formula... Good job

  • Hi Lisa. Do you work for Google or what. Webmasters very rarely just link to other sites because they know a link has a value. The big sites that rank high on search engines did not get to top of search engine results for their chosen keywords as a result of the generosity of others. Google wants to push the notion of quality content and the idea of links being a vote for a site because Google wants a constant stream of free content to give to its users.

  • You are so right. Meta tags are sooo important, and often overlooked. team72k

  • can i ask a question lisa, if i'm making a page but i used someoen's template and they require a link to them in the footer, say i do all this seo and get my page ranked, am i shooting myself in the foot with that link to them?

I can make that same template myself, it just was so easy to arrange the stuff and pop it out.

  • @shakaama I don't think that one link is going to impact your rankings much. You can also make it nofollow then you don't have to worry about it. Google "nofollow" to find the code for this.

  • @lisa3876 wow you are so smart. and thanks for the super fast response.

  • It is interesting to talk to people who are new to the SEO game. There tends to be a lot of stressing out trying to learn every last trick. This video has some great advice to just focus on the essentials. First and foremost, spend your energy creating a great website with great content.

  • @c14h20o4

I like the information she provides and the video was helpful to me. I didn't click to the Site Build link. In addition, a lot of companies provide "free" information, then once they build loyalty we as consumers reward them with our business. I may not need her services now but maybe one day I will. I will remember her because of the info she provided me for free in this video. I think with everything now a days you take what you need from it positively and then move forward.

  • I find most of what you say very honest and true. I have been doing this for 5 years and a lot of SEO crap can leave you feeling frustrated.

  • Great video Lisa, it is always a pleasure watching your videos. You are great contributor to the internet .

    freeseomarketing

  • thanks lisa u r0ck

  • Realmente se necesitan de buenas practicas de desarrollo web para lograr posicionar una web.

    hmshispanic

  • Thanks for the information Lisa :)

  • You should worry about all that stuff. Looking at your office, after 7 years, your still no e-millionair ;p

  • She has the same router as I do. Nice vid!

  • The algorithm is starting to be about the bounce rate, backlinks (very few actually even count now), on-page, and fresh content.

The age, working links, spelling, meta tags are needed but not to be stressed over -

Does the Yahoo directory help anymore - Pay Yahoo 300 bucks to find out huh?

  • SEO is not fun but essential. Interesting video.

  • Build your sites for humans to read LoL I chuckled at that.

  • Ok...I went from not knowing a thing about SEO a year ago to putting my heart and soul into it. Now my site is on the first page (it doesn't have to be #1...1st page is fine with me) of 20 different 2 word key phrases that bring me around 10 -20 visitors a day. Pretty good I think.

The point is that she is right !

Good luck and have fun !!

  • I love u Lisa,you're soo right

  • Hi Lisa! You don't care much about longtail keyword search?

  • I salute to such straight forward honest explaination on SEO. Its all bout your contribution to your webpage or interaction, simple as that. Theres plenty of Gurus out there eveready to confuse you and then charge you for their so called expertise.Tq Lisa n merry xmas

  • Awesome, I love how you share!

  • i trust this lady just because she proofs what she says......check out her other videos and u ill see

    ..

    5 stars...thank u...keep it up

  • Thanks again these videos are proving very informative.

  • Thanks for the SEO video. There are so many SEO tricks it's incredible.

  • 25,744 VIEWS WOW !!!!! THATS GREAT

  • No offense but you are annoying. Saying Link Exchanges are not really good but (someone just likes you and blogs about your site etc...)

while this is true what you said someone "just wanting to share your site".... LINKS ARE IMPORTANT!!!! GUYS becareful whom you listen to. 13,000 visitors a month, 50,000 visitors a month, 300,000 visitors a month...nothing! Just be careful whom you take advice from. you have good advice ..for beginners.

  • This is funny. Although some of what Lisa speaks about I agree with.

  • thanks for all the tips =)

  • I watched this video about 3 times to make sure I'm feeling easy about my new site's rank.

I'm a developer for the last 7 years but decided to make my own site last week.

But I don't understand one thing.. if we have to *wait* to get our site on the top (and of course provide good content) how come the SEO experts do this much faster? I mean MUCH MUCH faster..

Could you kindly shed some light on what you mean by "Sneaky Techniques" at 2:30?

  • quite clear & well understood. thnx

  • If you want to promote your website you can easily promote it if you have enough knowledge about SEO.

  • How to make a unique content on some topic that people search the most?

It is like you said that green is a popular color and I will create a "new green" color!

    That is absurd!

  • Wow, beautiful and intelligent. Thats rare. Great vid!

  • thanks

  • Hello Lisa,

Good video but around 6:25 you used the term "link to you" was that an incorrect term. I don't see competing websites "linking" to each other.

  • in my own experience it takes atleast 90 days to start making progress with seo. But every website is different.

  • Its not nich, its neesh

  • Hi lisa, This is Yogesh, I had a few questions for you which might be helpfull to me, if you would be able to answer them. I wanted to know how does google ads sense make their payment.

  • n1 thx

  • how many of you rank 1 on google ? 0 XD

  • I am a master at seo. I have created 31 sites and 29 are #1 and the other 2 are on the first page.

  • do you have a free book on traffic generation and promoting SiteSell thanks

  • thanks this video has been beneficial

  • SEO is very easy.

Just use unique meta-keywords, have a title and an h1 with a length of about 80 letters, have a lot of good content and post your Link into Blogs etc.

By the way - Lisa, that's important for you, too - use alt-attributes in the anchor-tags!

I hope, that I could help anyone out there. :-)

    GL to everybody, with SEO.

  • Meta keywords are really not important. Google ignores these nowadays.

Also, 80 characters in the title and h1 sounds a little to much for me. I would say about half of those, and the keyword(s) should be used early in the tag.

The TITLE and the TEXT are the most important parts in SEO. Also, you should have the keyword in BOLD, which indicates its importancy. This makes Google think this word is important, and you'll get a higher rank.

  • Google doesn't crawl for meta tags.

  • SEO is a lame business and will eventually with social networking...

  • sorry say again

  • @UXMagic ...lol but your on here listening to other on a lame business...lol its a 6 figure business per year on min. work. Goodluck to you...lol

  • Maybe, but for now there are still gazillions of searches happening for what you sell...right?

  • I like the expression you use in connection with the website age concept - "dog years" :) You packed an important clue into it!

  • No, you stop this! Are you trying to ruin me? :) Let them be mad about tips and trick that get them high on SEs.

I mean, I get paid, they get the result. I don't care if they fall in the next 6 months.

    It's a business.

  • great video! Thanks

  • Great info. Will use it on my sites.

  • I'm just working my way through all your videos and all the info on your websites. Hoping to build my own website soon - thanks for all the great tips!

  • I have pages in Google Analytics that have zero search engine hits let alone adsense clicks. I feel like it's a waste of an article :(

  • Good information but SEO is about sooo much more than meta tags and keyword density...

  • While a high ranking will certainly help a larger number of people see you and help drive more traffic to your site, it will not insure people actually buy your products or services. The ranking is what gets them there. You must do the rest by selling them on your ideas.

  • Love your stuff!

    RuthieTalk

  • Unfortunately I'm not as young and good looking as you lisa... however I have been an SEM since '94. You do a very good job of keeping this simple to understand... in '09 all the manual stuff is going... its all software now.. ce la vie! Well research isn't, but It's not exactly exciting work ;) Anyway keep up the good work.

  • Adorable

    Christ loves you

  • Thank you for your advices.

  • Great job!

  • Thank you so much!!! This is great. You did ease my mind. I was starting to go crazy writing content with SEO in mind.

  • You have issues psychopath.

  • WOW very usefull and helpful information. Thank you very much!! I remember infoseek back in the day, lycos and yahoo. good old days hehe

  • This is a great video, no wonder it was featured. there is a lot of very good information right there. n thanks for sharing! :)

  • Shes Right lol

  • If you're going to pitch the SBI line and then direct people to a squeeze page that will lead them to purchase SBI for three hundred dollars when SBI won't tell you what you need to do to rank well then you're scamming people because you will benefit and they won't really learn what they need to do

  • c14h20o4, I think you need to look up the definition of "scam". A scam is a company or product that doesn't deliver or promise what you pay for. Everyone knows you can buy hosting for much cheaper than $300/yr but SBI! is a complete training system and it's the only thing that has worked for me. Don't knock it if you don't own it. It angers me when I see people attack Lisa 'cause she goes out of her way to help people for FREE and even admits SBI! is not for everyone in many of her vids.

  • She's not helping you for free, she giving the SBI sales pitch while at the same time telling you about her website which is an sbi affiliate squeeze page. SBI is a scam because the key to ranking is so easy that if you knew all it took was links and the right anchor text you wouldn't waste your money on sbi but SBI tries to confuse you with their action guide. It's all about links and anchor text.

  • You are so misinformed about SBI!. It is NOT just about how to master SEO. It's such a small part of the system. You get an autoresponder, mailing list manager, Sitemap help, website templates, form builders. and a ton of useful advice of how to market your site. And when I say she has helped me for free I am talking about the personal emails where she has offered me advice on CSS and HTML. Most people as successful as Lisa ignore emails. She's helped me with a lot in many areas.

  • SBI! is not a scam. I bought it and it was a wealth of information/training for how to build a BUSINESS, not just a website. It wasn't for me but my aunt bought it and she is doing very well. I'm not sure why you think it's a scam but like powweb said you should do your homework first. Lisa has helped me GREATLY online. She doesn't have 8000 subscribers on here for nothing. Luv ya girl! Thanks for everything.

  • I've done the backlink analysis on her websites she's listed, she controls her links and the anchor text. It's not organic linking but she's not telling you that and sbi won't tell you either. It's the most important part of ranking and if you pay $300 to buy a system and it doesn't tell you that, you're getting scammed.

  • Oh brother! Of course she controls her links!! I would hope so!! What the heck do you think SBI! is about? LMAO!!! Every SBI! customer controls their own links and that's what you're taught to do in the guide. What do you think they teach magic SEO??? LOL! They teach the SAME thing you're talking about. SBI instructs u to use meta tags for each page but your traffic is all about inbound links. Glad we all agree now!! :) You anti SBI folks crack me up. U love to argue w/o the facts!!!

  • LOL I know, powwebvideos. It always cracks me up that the very people who diss sbi are the ones who don't have the facts and they are never the people who own it. Having been a customer of sbi I can tell you that they DO teach you about inbound links and anchor text. It's the main focus along with the importance of becoming a great writer/communicator and marketer. And you control ALL OF YOUR CONTENT. What did you think SBI did c14? Did you think it writes content and links for you???? LOL

  • She tells you in her video to write content so great that people will naturally link to it and that's not controlling your links.

  • But when you write good, helpful content people DO link to you and that DOES help your rank if enough relevant, useful sites do it. The more inbound links you have (especially respected sites), the greater chance you have of getting good rankings. That's all part of SEO. I'm not following you. What the heck is "controlling your links"??????

  • If you write great content that people want to link to, how many of those links are going to have your page's keyword as the anchor text? Somebody that likes your site is likely to link to it with something like click here or read more about that here which is not going to help you rank for your keyword as much as if they used your anchor text as the keyword.

  • My site gets 6,000 visits per day. Mostly from SEO. I don't control my links and most of my inbound links are from voluntary, one-way links. Never have and my traffic is growing almost everyday. You're one of the people that Lisa talks about in this vid. There is no magical formula anymore. Back in the day you COULD control with anchor text but Google is way smarter than that & looks @ overall picture. SBI taught me that and they are right. Your thinking is outdated.

  • controlling links via anchor text is a very antiquated SEO method that no longer works. If you check backlinks of older sites then you will see a lot of that but the reason they continue to have high ranks TODAY is because of # of recent, inbound links. Google has long caught up to the anchor text tricks and doesn't value as much. Write good content, get one way links from people and u don't have to stress over anchor links, keywords, etc.. My new site is proof of that.

  • She does tell folks that and I actually bought it from her 6 months ago and made SURE I used her affiliate link because she was honest about it. I make $200/month now thanks to Lisa. If you want to out someone you should get your facts first. And this video isn't even about SBI!. So what's your point?

  • The seo provided by this person is ok, but have read better information on seo.

  • Lisa

This video for the newbie was awesome.

    Thanks

    Melton

  • Write write write.

  • It's pretty simple actually: write high-quality SEO articles and content and do not try to create have multiple businesses on one site.

  • There have been times I have written articles that would not be considered optimized for a certain keyword because of the keyword density (or lack thereof - 1% -3%) and have still ranked for a keyword. Although stuff like that does help, I think Google sees quality backlinks and relevancy as more important. Unique content is key

  • I totally agree. I've noticed this too.

  • Yea! I have been confirmed...My content is total customer relations not seo content.

I let the key words do the work and there are plenty.

  • You have got it going on! Outstanding video.

  • " I write my sites for Humans not for Search Engines".... brilliant!

  • Lisa, have you got any opinion on Brad Callen's SEO Elite :P?

  • Seo elite is great especially for the link and the backend of the website in question. Great way to get an idea of what the top sites are doing. Highly recommended.

  • thanks for keeping it real!

that was the best seo video because of it's simplicity

jjust curious...are you using any paid seo software?

  • Thank you. Paid software? Never. I just follow the basic SEO rules (meta tags, etc.) and build content for humans to read, not spiders. I get the majority of my SE traffic because people link to me voluntarily which helps boost my credibility and popular with the search engines. My traffic continues to grow year after year and I haven't touched a single piece of software or done any "linking schemes"

  • Thanks for sharing! In a word, ... SMART !!!! Impressive!

  • Awesome Lisa!! Neat informative, non intrusive, straight to the point and honest. I have suspected I wasted a great many hours listening to male egos on here and now I know I was right. Thank you.

  • Thank-you for the very useful information!

  • Thank you for doing this video, Well done

  • One thing I've heard repeatedly from very successful webmasters such as Steve Pavlina and now yourself I that you should write for people, not search engines. Hearing it again from you just hammered that concept in. Thanks again!

  • I just subbed your site. thanks! Jack in Atl

  • Wow, beauty with brains !

    Valuable knowledge, thanx, subscribed.

  • You just open my eyes!

  • Well done Lisa, very informative content, thanks.

  • Extremely engaging/ informative content Lisa; Compared to many other SEO guru videos out there, the fact that you are articulate and knowledgeable, makes your videos soooo much more enjoyable.

For future videos: what about specific strategies for mass lead generation and PPC strategies??

  • Wow, what a great compliment. THANK YOU!!

  • people are stupid. i know the first stuff that comes back from my search is bullshit. I trash those results.

  • Fantastic information thank you...:-)

  • Thank you for the information. You are awesome and reading/watching your stuff gets me motivated!

  • Always quality, truthfull,reliable info..

    Thanks again.....

  • you are right about designing around content rather than seo but it does help if you apply some seo techniques (and im not talking about seo manipulation).

    some things i look for:

    *cross browser compatibility

    *text links and positioning

    *good navigation

    *greater content to code ratio

*avoidance of seo abuse or manipulation tequniques

    *less image usage

  • well this is such a fantastic youtube video, I am going to have to watch them all. please keep on makeing them. I have not sold a thing yet but I think im going to after seeing you site.

  • good vid! (I don't say that very often either)

I think what you've put together here is a pretty damn solid start for any beginner - and has insired me to produce a vid from the flip side of the issue!

  • awesome, I'm going to view all your content...thx
